Thumbs down Have you ever felt like you were missing something?

Its been a few years since I moved from the middle east to Canada (3 years to be exact) and things have been great here, I have new friends, I got to touch my first snowflake, live in a peaceful area and just explore. Lately I've been getting these weird feelings in my heart ad I know its cause I miss the Middle-East. I don't mean any offense to Canadians or anything, I mean Canada is awesome but I just miss the feeling of the middle East. My old friends, the scorching days, and just the adventures. I had some fun times back then, like riding my horse through the desert, and I was living there forover 10 years so it is hard to not miss a place like that... so anybody ever felt something like it?

Re: Have you ever felt like you were missing something?

Well, the only major moveing Ive done(in otherwords, not within a 60 mile radius) was when i moved to California from Boston, and that was a long time ago.

But I do know exactly what you mean. Whenever I go back to places where I used to live, espically this one town like 30 minutes from my house, I realize how much I miss the place. And when Im back home, I sorta wish that I could live there again, because of the memories, the people and everything else. So yeah....

I moved from Sydney, Australia to Seattle, Washington (US). I don't miss Sydney much. Seattle has way cooler stuff; junkies, bums, hobos, a good music scene, etc.

Re: Have you ever felt like you were missing something?

Do I ever... for the first chunk of my life I lived in Kyoto, Japan. However, later on in life I moved to the big city of Tokyo, when I moved there I did feel like I missed some of the more peaceful surroundings of Kyoto, and I missed friends that I left there, too. When I was 15, I moved here, to Australia... that was hard, and it still is hard. I left a part of me behind in Japan, not just that, but I left behind family, friends and childhood memories.

I love Australia, it's quiet, less busy and populated, and generally the people here are kind... but part of me always wants to go home again. Now I'm starting to actually miss the hustle and bustle of catching the train in amongst the crowd of Tokyo. I miss the colourful Harakuju, with the masses of street performers and foreigners. So yes, I guess you could say I have that feeling alot.

I havent moved that much.

When I was about 6 or 7, I moved from Paterson, New Jersey, to Hewitt, New Jersey. That was the only move, but I like my new place better.

"Why does it feel more real when I'm dreaming then when I'm awake?"

I've never moved house in my life so I guess that I can't really say anything like that but I went to my primary school the other day and felt basically the same thing.

redlink2 I suggest that you should edit your post to tell your story or delete it because that could be counted as SPAM IMO.

I moved quite a few times, but not very far apart. I spent the first few months of my life in Toronto. Then I moved about 70 km away to Hamilton. I moved a few times here, and thats about it o_O Nothing special

Re: Have you ever felt like you were missing something?

I have moved a couple of times in my life, the last one being about 100 km away, but I have the opportunity to go back a lot (like almost every weekend) still I miss it..

but the weirdest thing is the place I lived for the first 3 years of my life, on the other side of the country. I only have a few fragments of memories from that place, but every once in a while when I get near the area I get this strange feeling.. it feels like being homesick. It's a quiet, small area (on an island) just below Rotterdam, so I already get it when visiting Rotterdam Harbor and the area there..and from listening to a certain dutch song (that's actually about the province below that but it can be applied to "my" island as well )

Re: Have you ever felt like you were missing something?

Oh mai... I'm still adjusting to Australia, haha. Awhile ago, I went to the corner store to buy some "supplies" and I went up to the cashier and started talking to her in Japanese o-o I hate it when I do that... it just a slip of the tongue. I used to think in Japanese and then translate it all before I said it, but now I can think in English... but sometimes I slip like that. Haha.

I guess this thread has brought alot out of me today, because I phoned my dad (Which he was surprised about) and talked for quite awhile about my childhood, which was fun. I wonder why we hold these things so dear? It's strange... these aren't material objects, they're memories, yet they're so hard to isolate in your mind.

Anyway, that's all I have to say.

Re: Have you ever felt like you were missing something?

Mercutio is so right... he touched on something. Why do abstract memories have so much sentimental power? I have many memories I can fondly remember, I rejoice in them, yet I don't understand why.

Perhaps we idealize how things used to be, and assign more value to them. Perhaps these memories are a way of remembering our loved ones. After all, relationships are bonded by our experiences.

Re: Have you ever felt like you were missing something?

I geuss, those memories are so strong cause when you are there you never think about how it would feel if you actually moved. Maybe you thought you would bee there forever, or maybe you took those times for granted, something great happens, you enjoy it but the memories are much much greater. They can full you with temporary powerfull emotion and energy. I never though I wouldhave moved but now that I have boy do I think of home alot, what it would be like to go back in my new "form" to my old school. Today I spent most of my internet time looking at the middle-east site. As some people say, the power of love and the special bond which is within you and your friends (in this case the old country) can never be broken.

Edit: I was just watching the news and I just saw my old home town being attacked I hope no one got hurt.

Re: Have you ever felt like you were missing something?

I noticed that if I have the feeling that I've forgotten something, then I have in fact forgotten something...

so if I get that feeling I have to stop and think about it...

if not, I'm good to go...
