The 6,098 registered members that ZU is proud of
Ive been meaning to start this topic for a while now, and I think that its core should be considered at least slightly.
we all pass the Forum member counter every day that shows the number of members registered in the forums. We all think: Yay! we have a large community with currently 6,098 registered members! But, lets think straight: Do we have 6,098 registered ACTIVE members? Do we have out of these 6,098 registered members 3000 active members? I was leafing through the memberlist yesterday and i was shocked when I looked at the front page: !!! a!rmando!!! !!!1afrosita !!!antilota !!!GANON!!! $kitzah Ĺĩ& ><> * *hobbit hugs *Kyle13Kyle* ---aaa--- -=Link=- -aaa- -abar- -alain- -angela- -DevilDemmon- -gin-u-wine- 16 members out of 30 in the first page have: 0 posts. That's over half. What is the point in registering in a forum without posting?? Ill admint that ive lightly touched on this subject in the ZU chatroom with ZeldaFreak and a couple of other members, but i thought it would be intresting if we can get your views on this subject. We all know that ZU has been having a tough time lately (server porblems etc..) though this does not link directly with the thread topic, it should still be considered. Zelda Univer is in fact not that large when it comes to active members, how many active members do we really have? 500? 1000? 1500? 2000? let's say 2000 active members though I dont think we have that many...that leaves us with....4000 unactive members. 4000 members who have either had a newbie adreneline period where they posted like made for a while, or who have registerd and merely forgot about ZU completely. In my view, I think its best that the ZU staff filter out those useless members, those members who have registerd and not cared to posted at least. it gives ZU a bad name, it looks bad too when a guest decides to have a look at the Memberlist and the first page he sees has 16 members who havent posted a single post! I remember the little icon that ZU put o the front page of the site a while back celebrating: 5000 members! Zelda Universe DID have over 5000 members, but, in that time, how many members out of these 5000 were active? how many had even bothered to post? Ok, how do we do it? How do we find out the percentage of members out of the 6,098 registered members who visit the forums? Well, I suggest that an admin sends an email to every member in the forum ( I think its called mass mail or sumthin) and we give all the members a period of time to reply to the email, and we can ask the members to verify thier password (this will show if they still remember the password...if they dont..then this obviously shows they don't give a damn about the forums) we'll give all the member say, a month to reply, and we can tally up the number of replies and this will show how many active members the fourm has, and obviously, the number of inactive, non-caring members. Some of you may argue back that im not that active, but hey, I still pop-in now and then, Ive had my share of sig making and forum interaction, but....im still a newb. I'd just like to make it clear that Ive started this topic for the good of the forums, Zelda Universe should have on its first page of the memberlist, member who are active, members who post replies with high quality. please reply to this thread as I'm looking forward to reading your replies Thank you |

Re: The 6,098 registered members that ZU is proud of
the same argument is started all the time, just forget anyone is inactive, its not like it matters any. Btw an active member is someone who has .5 posts a day.
btw about the email thing i rarely check my email much less reply to anything in it. |

I know, that sucks. Alot of people just register like that. People with 0 posts should be deleted, simple as that.

i still think a part of the 0-post people visit ZU's forum's to see what's going on but don't post. i did that in my very beginning.
although some of the good names are taken by inactive people. |

I can understand these people, though. I must admit, my passion for Zelda has dwindled quite a bit since I joined this forum. Probably because there hasn't been a new game in a while. I can see how many members could have joined here while they liked Zelda and quit when they lost interest. Still, I think it's a bit rash to just delete member's who are innactive. I mean, they could always regain interest and rejoin. Besides, 6000 members, active or not, is always something good to brag about.

Its Pathetic and its a waste, but think about it if all those mebers were active. We'd haver like 3000 posts a day and we get over a hundred or so. So they're fine really!

Re: The 6,098 registered members that ZU is proud of
I suggested this awhile back, but it was denied, as a member may decide to come back after a time only to find his account deleted. Plus, they may be ghosting around with their user names hidden from us. They may also have come in for help, made one post, and left. For most people, the online community seems much to intimidating. I know that I, for one, rarely ventured outside of the Fan Art/Fic forum until nearly a month after joining.
Also, the number of truly active members is closer to 300 or 400. |

Re: The 6,098 registered members that ZU is proud of
Like DT said, it's not going to happen. AnakiN- is 100% correct when he said before that it is good to have the high numbers. Even if people only took the time to register, that shows they TOOK THE TIME TO REGISTER!! This is great when advertisers come to look at the site.
Really, nothing is going to change within the next 50 years with this, so *locked*

Re: The 6,098 registered members that ZU is proud of
there are users taht jsut come here to read, in every message board there is a population of members that do this. We all ahve free of choice and thats theirs, so i dont think nothing wrong about it.
Now the vast majority are users taht never come to post, let them be, they are ot dong any harm. |

Re: The 6,098 registered members that ZU is proud of
You all need to get over this -- It must be the millionth time people some all-knowing member of the boards suggest this, though without no aparant reason. The fact of the matter is that most, and I mean most, large communities have a high percentage of unactive registered users, and ZU is no exception.
Go to any other board and you'll find that the percentage of the unactive registered members is just as high, except if they prune their user database, which there is no reason for us to do since those who registered and have yet to post do not harm neither you nor me. The only way this would actually turn out to be an issue would be if we had a space shortage, which we certainly don't. And another very important point is that many may register only to post fan works, who are we to say against that? It won't increase their post count if they post fan works, but they still actively use their accounts just as much as those who just post at the boards. So for the last time, get over it, move on, stop caring about this completely useless "issue".
