How to Have Good Spelling
It's not that big of an issue with me, but sometimes I've seen some pretty big mistakes made in spelling here. I know that a lot of times it's typos and a good proofreading would take care of it, but I have a better way.
A while back, I was recommended Google Toolbar. It's a pretty feature-filled toolbar that has a lot of stuff for searching with Google. However, I already have a Google search built into Firefox, and besides, I'm not here to advertise for Google. My point is that the Google toolbar has a spell checker, and it works pretty well too. I use it every time I post something, and it'll pick up anything that is not a normal word. (Unfortunately, Zelda terms are not normal words. Oh, well.) It even tells you how to use it the first time you click on the button. If you don't even want the whole toolbar, you can right-click of the "toolbar" area of your browser and configure it. (It works for Firefox. I'm not sure about IE.) So if you want people to get off your back because of poor spelling, or even just typos, I suggest you get the Google Toolbar. Personally, I couldn't do without it. (If fact, I just used it.) Here are the download pages: Firefox Microsoft Internet Explorer |

Re: How to Have Good Spelling
I have been using it for a while now. I used to use it with IE but when I switched to FireFox I thought I lost it but then I found a download page for it. Thanks to Google toolbar I don't have bad spelling.

Because we all know that good spelling gets you into the white house ![]()

Re: How to Have Good Spelling
I don't need no stinkin' spell checker!
And I'm proud to say I actually don't use one. I'm sure my posts are littered with mistakes, though. Quote:

Re: How to Have Good Spelling
One way to improve your spelling is to spell check your posts in something like word, but don't use the 'replace' button, actually retype it by hand.

Re: How to Have Good Spelling
Of course, you could learn to stop relying on technology and start relying on your natural spelling skills. No-one begrudges you the casual erorr, but it's only when yuo kepe typnig liek thsi eveyr tmie u mak a pots.
Hylian Lemon said the same thing as me, but his is longer. Read his.

Re: How to Have Good Spelling
What people here need is a downloadable english teacher. Spelling isn't the main problem, and spell checkers always miss things like replacing "know" with "no", or, obviously, grammar mistakes.
As long as a post isn't bursting with errors, I don't really mind. It's not my problem when someone doesn't have a grasp on the english language.

Re: How to Have Good Spelling
Above all what people need to understand is that this is a forum with people from all over the world, lots of them don't have english as their main language, maybe not even secondary language, so spelling errors and grammar errors are to be expected and shouldn't be judged, that's what i think

Re: How to Have Good Spelling
(looks at all the posts) Wow, nice haul after only a night. As for what you all have said, eh, to each his own. I myself was never an expert at spelling, and I was never taught how to type properly, so I make a lot of mistakes, some are what I honestly think is the right spelling, while a lot of them are just typos. If you don't need a spell checker or you already have one, that's fine, in fact good for you. I'll just crawl back into my hole now... (checks spelling...hey! no spelling errors!)

Re: How to Have Good Spelling
Or, instead of those (i don't know if you had this or not) get the Google tool bar. That has a spellchecker which is quite useful.
(I just corrected three errors. ) |
