ZU for sale?

That's right, Lee, the current webmaster of ZU, is selling ZU.

Yes, you read that correctly. And it is not Zelda.com, but ZeldaUniverse.net. Lee Dodd, the owner of the of Zelda Universe, has listed his site for sale. This was first picked up on RSS feeds thanks to Hyrule.net, and I've been reading through the posts about it for the past half hour. Bottom line, I'm pretty sickened by this.
I will make two things clear.

1) James and Scott are good webmasters and good fans who haven nothing to do with the ads from the site. This is nothing against their community, which is awesome and I am a frequent member of.

2) Zelda fans profitting off The Legend of Zelda, beyond selling stuff on eBay that they bought in the first place, is the worst thing you can do in my book. I can tolerate covering costs of hosting, but when you are using a majority of Nintendo's intellectual property to make this obscene amount of money, it's bull ****. Sure, it's his site and he and his team made it what it was - but what right does he have to sell something that was mostly made possible by the existance of the Legend of Zelda, and his site is a FAN SITE. It's not like we're companies here (yes, that's even you Land of the Legend - you're a fan site). We do not get bought out by bigger companies, or sell for profit. We are not like GoNintendo, Joystiq or Kotaku, who at anypoint could be gobbled up for a lot of money, or turn themselves profitable by selling publicly.

I'm not going to get into this anymore than what I've said because you all will just blame me for causing some site wars. This is nothing against ZU, do not make it that way. This is an issue i have with Lee, the founder, who is doing something I find worse than site theft, making up info, or flaming sites.

Sorry, dude, but this is old news. But why give a f-ck? I mean, ZU has been sold before, you know?

First of all, TSA's article isn't completely accurate. I'd check out the comments that people have made at the bottom that help to clarify things...

Also, he's selling his site. Though we can assure you that this will barely affect the site... Lee has been making a profit off of the site for a while, and a new owner will know that the best way to make a profit off of ZU is to just give it the freedom to be a great site.

Poor Lee, he's taken nothing but fire since he bought the site from Lars. If it makes any difference I bear Lee no animosity, the site has been sold before, it didn't really change at all. I'm sure it'll be sold again. Besides, if there was going to be a big change we'd be told ahead of time.

I could only dream of owning such a great site. So, Scott's been making money off of this site, and he's not supposed to? Shame on you! Shame on you!

Yeah its probably just gonna be like a new owner of the site and maybe some minior changes to the owners view but other then that its probably gonna be the same thing.

And if ZU is sold, I doubt anything will change on the site. It's changed hands before.

No, not at all.
This site was originally founded by Lars, a year or so ago he sold it to Lee, Lee has been using it to make a profit. There's nothing wrong with that, Lee makes his money by making a profit off of websites. It's rather like yelling at a fireman for saving your life, it's his job.

The sale is still unconfirmed yet, but Lee clearly has many offers on the table.

Again, the sale won't change a thing. ZU will still be ZU, y'all, and will still definitely exist like it's existing now.

Lee has tried to sell the site before. I believe the reasoning was that he has two or three other big sites to watch over and that he's been slightly neglecting ZU. That was the reasoning. Last time he tried he wasn't able to find a new webmaster though, so I guess he's trying again.

Oh, Lee. I read Scott somewhere (did I?) and Scott popped up when I was typing. So, my point is, he's not supposed to do that?

Absolutely not. ^^

Scott and Lozzie would still have power over the website and all its content - another person, besides Lee and Zak, would just have control over the site's servers and ad revenue.

See, the person who owns the site pays for the servers and keeps the site running perfectly, and we put up the content and maintain the community. ^_^

It works out well for everyone! ^^ We get a super-cool server setup with plenty of people with technical knowledge, and they get a bit of ad revenue.
