Home Schooling

Anyone here ever been home schooled? What was your favorite thing about it? If you haven't been home schooled then maybe you have questions? Then post here.

Edit Leminnes: Grammer changes.

Re: Home Schooling

I had a friend ho was homeschooled. Strangely enough, we never talked about it. He never brought it up, and none of the group ever asked him while I was there. The parents have to take a test to qualify as a homeschooler, right?

I don't know if I approve of it or not. I'm sure there are advantages to it. I obviously don't have anough info to base an opinion on.

Not to rent a mod or anything, but this should not go here. The temple of knowledge is for asking for help in schoo or something of as according. Im sure a mod will swoop in and lock this topic.

as far as i know parents dont have to take tests to do it, the reason im homeschooled is because my parents wanted to protect me from some stuff that would come at school.

You're totally right, link. ^^ This doesn't belong here at all...

:::waves modwand, carries this off to general chit-chat with her!:::

Two of my best friends used to be homeschooled, since their father was in the military. They had to move around so often that it was just easier for their mother to teach them at home instead of forcing them to constantly change schools. They loved it - if they could manage to convince their mother that something was educational, their mother would do it. ^^; Those jerks definitely went on a physics field trip to an amusement park once, while I was stuck sweltering behind a desk... :::shakes fist:::

Ive seen this alot, not to get off subject or anything, but are all mods/smods/admins doing this now, or just a few? You can pm it to me.

I Havent been homeschooled, but nor would i wont to with my mom. I have horrible handwriting, and it would annoy her so much. She is stressed out enough, and I doubt she would want to be stressed out even more. Also, sh would have to re-learn all of it haha.

Re: Home Schooling

I was homeschooled for a couple of years. Only not at my home. I homeschooled with my two best friends. It was crazy. I don't know why they were homeschooled, but I was because I was really harassed(because I'm not Native). Mmmyup.

I liked not starting as early in the morning. I think it helped. Too bad the schools around Montana don't do that... We got to go to Washington, for a concert, during Spring Break. (We were able to have it extended ) And take a week off to "learn" in Yellowstone. Good times, good times.

When I went to High School... it was a major change. I think homeschooling is okay at a younger age, but I think kids should have the experience of high school. There's my two cents. I wish I had five...

Re: Home Schooling

Unless you count the homework sent home the few times I needed to take a week of school due to illness then no. I was wondering how do homed schooled kids ensure they are learning the same stuff as those of us that did or are still going to schools? I know some are home schooled due to parents wishing them not to learn specific things a nearby school has in their syllabus but I'm talking about safe subjects such as maths. Also how do you get the social interaction that school offers? Whether its friends to share a laugh with or people impeding group assignments, these interactions all eventually help us in adulthood.

In some states, perhaps. It depends on the stringency of the state's laws concerning home-schooling. Arizona, as far as I know, is quite lenient, while Maryland, in comparison, inquires after the curriculum the parents will be employing each year, as well as the circumstances under which the child or children will be instructed.

There are various home-schooling curriculums which parents use, like Abeka, that ensure their child learns the same rudimentary subjects as their public school peers. Home-schooling varies from un-schooling, as I think it's called, the latter being a system wherein there is no set schedule - the kids pretty much do whatever they want. I haven't met any un-schoolers as of yet - everyone I've encountered either uses a program (most of which are very comprehensive, by the by) or creates their own. For example, my mother employs lectures by the Teaching Company. The subjects covered are numerous, and the instruction is thorough - I've just finished my chemistry, by the way.

As for social activity - that's why we home-schoolers have COOPs and classes outside the home and such. There's no obstacle to social activity if you're of a mind to have some.

Anyhow, I am a home-schooler, and have been for nigh on six years, perhaps longer. I've been in public school and didn't find it conducive to independent learning - in fact, I've had equal experience in both public school and home-school. I prefer home-school.

I am homeschooled. It's great. I love it. I haven't done much because I only just started and now it's summer vacation, so I'm off for the entire summer. Anyways, I love being homeschooled. ^^

Re: Home Schooling

I was home schooled for quite a while. I go to school now, because I need all the forms and stuff for college, but I quite enjoyed my time home-schooling. I'l come back to this thread and expand later, but I can say that it is a double-edged sword. If your parents (or whoever is teaching you)suck at math, it can be hard to get good at maths, like you would in a normal school. On the flipside, you can be really good at English and Society and Enviroment kind of stuff.

Re: Home Schooling

I was in effect "home schooled" my last two years of Highschool. It's not bad. You basically work at your own pace and I thought it was very easy. However if you don't get out much (like me) then the penalty to your social skills isn't welcomed once you go out in life. Like say, college.

I think public schools should just be cleaned up.

Re: Home Schooling

I've been homeschooled since fourth grade. I have to speech, mY mOm dunn good taughting at me?

Hahaha, just kidding. I'm going to be a senior and also a freshman in college. Homeschooling has been fun but the only down side is that your parents are your teaches. You can't really screw around or get bad grades cause then they know right away. Other than that is been a blast. I still have friends and I'm not one of those clean cut well dressed 'Yes Mother Dearest' type of kids. It's actually had to find one of the sterotype homeschoolers, though I have met some.
