Jesse Jackson-Hymie

I remember reading seeingon the telelvision once that Jesse Jackson once ran for president in 1984. Then I remember people saying that he would have one if he hadn't called jews "hymies" then they showed a man going crazy with anger trying to break free from a bunch security guards. So I ask you people this, is "Hymie" an offensive word?

It's just a slur. But I've never heard it before, I think it's pretty much forgotten already.
