What might you consider insanity?
Lately I've been wondering; Where is the thin line between Sanity and Insanity?
Some people consider me to be crazy, examples: -Being the only person in my class, nay, school, to hate rap and like classical music -Constant talking to myself -Random singing -I won't eat food that is touching other food I don't quite consider myself crazy. Give me your opinions on this matter. |

Re: What might you consider insanity?
in·san·i·ty ( P ) Pronunciation Key (n-sn-t)
n. pl. in·san·i·ties Persistent mental disorder or derangement. No longer in scientific use. Law. Unsoundness of mind sufficient in the judgment of a civil court to render a person unfit to maintain a contractual or other legal relationship or to warrant commitment to a mental health facility. In most criminal jurisdictions, a degree of mental malfunctioning sufficient to relieve the accused of legal responsibility for the act committed. Extreme foolishness; folly. Something that is extremely foolish. And that is what I consider "Insanity"

Re: What might you consider insanity?
We're all crazy in our own little way, but people become insane when they cannot tell right from wrong, according to basic social norms. That's what I believe.

Re: What might you consider insanity?
The fact that we are different makes us all crazy,or insane to others. To ourselves...we are nothing more but....Ourselves. That is why we don't seem crazy to ourselves. Just b/c others have their opinions about craziness...doesn't mean that you are crazy...it just means that they view you as different.

Embrace difference and don't follow the crowd if that's not your thing! It doesn't make you not normal, it makes you who you are. Actual insanity is what BB_11 stated. When there is actually mentally something wrong with you. Having different tastes from other people doesn't mean you have a "mental problem". As for singing to yourself and the food not touching each other, etc. That's more like quirks. The food not touching each other may be a mild form of OCD, but that doesn't make you crazy. Who isn't obsessive compulsive in some way anyway? Everybody has their own way they like to do things.

Re: What might you consider insanity?
No one is "normal" to every person they meet. Even the most bland of person could seem weird to someone. So personally..... Everyone is weird. Not to everyone, but to someone. NO one in my life is normal........... Especially not me.

Also, having a particular favorite type of music definetly doesn't make you crazy. I know plenty of completely sane people who talk to themselves and sing randomly all the time. In my opinion, people who "talk to themselves" are just thinking out loud. I think of insanity as a person who can't process anything anoyone is saying anymore, and just rambles off about their own little conversation about a random topic that has nothing to do with what you're saying to them. That, or jumping off the walls saying: "I'm not crazy!" Yeah I know, I've watched too many movies...

Re: What might you consider insanity?
The definitons of insanity that I'm seeing here is just more along the lines of weird or crazy. What it means to be truly insane to me, is hearing voices inside your head, yelling and outright scaring somebody over something small, and being extreamly depressed afterwards.

Re: What might you consider insanity?
No, I wouldn't say you were insane. Far from it. Nothing wrong with doing things differently, but that isn't necessarily insanity.
Stating the obvious, but to be insane is to lose your sanity, right? And with your sanity goes your rational, logical thinking, the stability of your mind. I think that, though, the word is used quite lightly with a lot of people. In a normal convo, people are like, "You're insane!" but it's not really considered a complete loss of sanity. Maybe weird, or perhaps the politer way of saying that--unique--different, oddball, stuff like that. I think that's how people speak of insanity. Personally, I find it quite hard to use that word. I'm like this with a lot of words, actually, like hate and love. I'm very careful with when I use those words, including insanity. To me, it's more than being very strange or unique; it's a loss of the soundness of mind. |

Re: What might you consider insanity?
A little bit of genius takes a little bit of insanity...
![]() Okay, so, no, you're not insane. I talk to myself, randomly sing, hate rap, love classical, all that... except the food thing. I mix lotsa dinner food, actually...
