Any SCA or LARPERs here?

Hey everyone, are there any SCA and/ or LARP people here? Just checking. I joined the SCA about four months ago and it's a blast. I learned a hell of a lot more about armor and weapons there. It's funny, cause once you learn all this stuff, you find that all the things friends around you *think* they know about swords and armor is false.

Even movies make mistakes. Anyway, I'm a Templar knight. What about you guys? (Hopefully there are some SCA/larpers here)

Oath of the Knights templar. Who were the Knights' templar? In laymen's terms, some bad-a$$ warrior monks who protected pilgrims on their way to the Holy land.

Hmmmm.........you might want to put what the SCA and LARPERs are, for those who don't know. And explain the Templar Knight thing as well.

SCA = Society for Creative Anachronisms. It's basically a group who studies/acts out the Middle Ages.
LARP = Live Action Role Play. Basically what it sounds like.
"Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt!"

I'm not a member of SCA, although I have thought about joining. I didn't though, due to time constraints, and also the fact that things worked out better in my kendo classes than I thought they would.
But one of the main things that scared me off from the SCA, was their fighting. I watched them at a library's small Renaissance Faire, and man, it was terrible. People leaving their body wide open, unable to properly utilize their two weapons or chances to thrust, obvious fear in one of the fighters... I definitely didn't want to be taught that way.
Of course, that's probably only true for my area.
My cousin's in the SCA, though, and she really enjoys it. It sounds like it would be a load of fun.

Oooooh!

L.A.R.P.!

*glee*

I don't know if it's really L.A.R.P. but my friends like to whack each other around with PVC pipes and shoot blunt arrows at each other whilst yelling "Yay! Minus 10 health for you, sucker!"

But I prefer the more organized kind, where you're in an old house, dressed up, and have random other people attack you. One of my friends accidentally knocked somebody else out. I've actually participated in this kind.

Just so you know, these were two different groups of friends.

Dude, that sucks! Given the SCA a bad name! (Not you, those people!). I guess I'm lucky. The guys who teach us are phenomenal. I mean, I certainly learned some moves that are cool.

I thought there would be more L.A.R.P people though around the forums.
