I got AOL 9.0!

I recently got AOL 9.0, and it is an improvment on 8.0. It has some cool features, you can video IM, or even use a microphone. Its pretty cool, and it gave me 2 buddies I don't know,lol. And I have had much better pings in my online games, 211-168, and thats with 56k. Does anyone else have 9.0? I think only AOL members can get it now.

i haven't had aol since 5.0, and personally, i think i'm a lot better off... ^_^

but seriously... it's taken aol long enough to set up basic stuff and way too much outside competition to actually get them to make their service almost up to current standards...

oh, and other people heard about them making anyone who gets AIM after a certain date have to pay for it, right? or was that just a rumor?

I havn't used AOL in a looong time. I've had a dsl for a while, so I dont need to log in. Which is ironic, because my mom worked at AOL for about 6 years.

Yeah Andi, that was just some joke that someone started sending to people in an attempt to clog up the ISP or something. Im not exactly sure how that works, but its something along those lines. AIM remains free! ^_^

i have cable comcast, i havent had AOL since 5.0 when we unistalled it, it wiped out half of our harddrive so i think AOL sucks

... i know about firebird, but i still like my avantbrowser better. since my family is stupid enough to not notice all of the page titles when i put it into cascase, it's horribly easy for me to flip back and forth between windows as they turn their backs...

though the control+k google bar popup was definately the best thing i've ever seen in my life... and they had a lot of other good shortcuts too... ^_^

Anyways, I switch between Firebird, Mozilla and IE. Usually just go to IE for things that Firebird can't run. I keep my monitor at too high of a resolution for my blind family to notice the window names, though I have the task bar set to auto-hide anyways.

I hate AOL, We got rid of it at v4.0. You can tell its bad since it took 'em so many versions to get it right. We use NetZero now, but were supposed to get a Cable ISP........someday. no-one knows when that is.
And I will eat AOL execs if they make me pay for my AIM service!!! I hope that just a rumor like you said andi.

I am one of the unlucky that has AOL. even 9.0 isn't the greatest thing. It is too geared towards the casual and niche internet user to be all that great for me. The IMing features are just in 9.0 getting caught up to what AIM has had for free for years. I have had DSL so i always got the fanier AOLs lately but it still sucks overall.

The lesson is don't get AOL unless you are forced to, there is too much crap you don't need.

Well, I'm *forced* to use AOL, for it's free. I used to have MSN, but my free trial period ran out. Anyway, yes, I have AOL 9.0, and I downloaded it when it first came out. It took over 12 hours to download... why??

I connect at a whopping 38.8!!!! WHEEEE!!!! Hey, it's better than the 28.8 connect I had about 2 years ago. I'm used to it, because it's all I ever had. I know not the pleasures of DSL or Cable. *sigh* Tooooooo expensive for me to pay out. I would rather have digital cable than cable modem....

Back on track. I think this version is all just for people who like pretty things. So, I like the cosmetic asthetic appeal to 9.0. It doesn't crash (yet!!! *knocks on wood*), but it seem webpages won't load as easily. Overall, I think 9.0 is a great HUGE improvement over 8.0, but AOL still is crappy.

I went from a 56K modem connecting at a whopping 24,600 bps directly to DSL. If you ever switch you will most likely be willing to get into a fist fight to not have to go back, It is really that much of a diference.

Yeah all the buttons are nice 3D animated gifs and what not, pop down menus abound. Still everything sucks.

And Sadida, just wait until it does crash, it's actually fun to watch, it tells you AOL is restarting and then does, or it will tell you it's fixing itself, usually you don't even lose your connection. I was scared the first time AOL 9 crashed and i didn't lose my connection i really way, though the apocolypse might be upon us or somehting.....

OOOhh..... I guess it *has* crashed a few times now... I guess it's a nice way to make people freak out. I just thought... awww, aol is doing something weird. Pretty normal. I just can't wait until I get DSL....... maybe in the wintertime when I get more cash... *wishful thinking*

You have 9.0, is it a big improvement over 7.0? Probably not, no upgrade with AOL has been a 'big improvement', with every version they ever make, you'll still get thrown off the internet a couple of times.

The only big improvement has been that the IM service is almost up to par with AIM, even though it is still seriously lagging.... And if you have highspeed the AOL Radio is pretty snazzy.

AOL 9.0 does have a couple of good things. One: when you get disconnected it reconnects without closing all your windows. Two: when the program crashes it restarts the program without having to reconnect. I'm not sure about the connection though. It seems the same to me most of the time. Still, I've gotten a ping of 150 when I get on at 1:30 in the morning.
