Anyone tried Google earth?

After many months of friends urging me, I finally downloaded it yesterday, and it's incredible! I honestly can't believe the level of detail that they have the entire world mapped out too. I can even see my mum's car in the driveway of our house!! I spent hours traveling the globe, marveling at the size of the pyramids (and the golf course adjacent hehe) the sheer scale of mount everest, the vastness of the amazon and the depth of the grand canyon. It really does bring the size of our world into perspective.

Then I went to San Francisco and found my sisters house and checked the area around her new house. She was blown away today when I described to her all the cool places around her area. If you head into some of the major cities like San Francisco and New York, you can even see some of the buildings in 3d!

This technology is so amazing and it really makes me excited about the future! Imagine in a decade or so, we might even have a satellite network which is able to update the images in real time and in even higher detail! My sister joked today that she can't wait till the day she can pop onto google earth and spot me riding my bike on the way to work and say "hey look, it's JP on his way to work!"

If you don't have this program download it now!

Actually, anyone with a set of maps could work out where things are.

And anyways, if you look closely, a lot of key government areas are blocked out on google earth... the law prevents anybody in the public sector from releasing aerial photographs of important government facilities.

Besides all that, I love google earth with every fiber of my being.

Re: Anyone tried Google earth?

It was fun the 2 first times I tried it, then I realized that it was the most unessecary program I've ever seen. It's fancy though.

Yup, I tried it ages ago... If you want to update the resolution of areas with low resolutions, become a member on the Google Earth forums (just google it)...

Re: Anyone tried Google earth?

Google Earth has the wrong capital for Netherlands! It's Amsterdam!!! Not The Hague, which I find a stupid mistake for a company like google, can't they use there own search programm?? O wel, the rest of it is pretty cool I guess.

Re: Anyone tried Google earth?

Yeah, it ate up my system resources rather fast and in the end, I found it more of a hassel than a good support. I deleted the program from my computer after using it for thirty minutes. If only the images would load faster, be sharper, and use less resources on my computer, then I would have liked it.

MapQuest?
DigitalGlobe?
GIS?
Printed maps?

It's not like this stuff didn't exist before Google Earth (In fact, much of Google Earth's data comes straight from DigitalGlobe and GIS).

My World Geography teacher used to use it all the time in a game we played, which caused me to use it too. So yeah I have it.

Google earth is awsome i downloaded the free trial!Google earth is cool but the sattelite images are old and are not taken often.Besides that it is a very cool program. The military uses the same program but it is a live video provided with a zoom capable of seeing blemishes on my face.

Hehe you've got a point there. Use an atlas instead, or look it up on the internet. Google it. Hehe.

Re: Anyone tried Google earth?

Yeah. Google has Google Map already, similar to Google Earth. Personally, I find using that much easier than Google Earth.
