How instinctive are you?

This may seem rather awkward at a first look, well let's make a try.

We are all animals, and we all have instincts, more or less.
Things as looking at the direction of a sudden sound and such are all instincts which were based upon the beginning of time. How much of these genes are left in us?

I find myself very instinctive. I react at unknown sounds and lights, I sharp my senses whenever a stranger who fysically could constitute a threat to me, I often check my back, even at home, and mostly sleep with my back at the wall. I wake up easily and I feel uncomfortable in darkness. Also, when playing soccer or other sports I fight (not literally) as if there was no tomorrow.

Don't know if anyone besides me have thought of this. But it's quite fascinating, even the most civilised human is still at the level of a cat,or dog, or bird, or whatever, when it comes to natural reactions.

So how about you? Have you "mastered" (that if you consider it a good thing) nature and put instincts aside, or are you still bound to the very basics of this world?

I think I'm fairly instinctive. I sharpen up when strangers pass near me. Like most animals, I freeze and look in the direction of sudden lights and sounds. Strange, sudden sounds at night tend to quickly wake me if they are close by. Also, like a cat, I usually walk quietly and I love the dark just as much as the light althrough I don't see as well in the dark as in the light. Oh right, as to your question, this is the first time I thought indepth about this.

Re: How instinctive are you?

Experience has told me not to trust my own too much, but I find myself to be quite paranoid at times but never at times when it could be of my own personal benefit. I try to examine and observe my surroundings sharply, but I usually focus on the wrong and insignifcant things. So I never have the right idea, but eh.

Re: How instinctive are you?

I believe I'm very instinctive. When a sudden noise comes, I look in the direction right after it's made. When a flash of light comes I look where it came from. No one thinks I'm paranoid, I have high senses. That's why one of my friends calls me Koneko since I act like a cat but I have senses like a cat.

Re: How instinctive are you?

Uh ... I'm sure everyone has some sort of natural instinct. So I don't think I'm abormal or outrageously "highly sensed" in any way. Except maybe for the fact I have 20/15 vision or something.

However, I have my odd quirks just like everyone does. I am an extreamly light sleeper (its rather annoying actually). I often wake up from my parents alarm clock on the other side of the house. I also am a very skiddish person when people surprise me, like when someone pops in my room I actually jump or jerk in my seat stupidly.

Then of course there was the time my brother got his thumb caught under this wooden fence in our backyard. I had heard him yelling in pain, so I ran out and saw his thumb covered in blood. Somehow, I actually lifted the heavy fence out of the ground, and he was able to break free. I'm not "weak", but the fence was quite hammered down hard and heavy for someone like me to pick up. But thats mainly due to adrinealine, which I get alot of I guess?

Re: How instinctive are you?

I believe you're just paranoid, haha. But me, I'm "observant" which is kinda the same. I'm constantly looking around when I'm places. When I'm in a store I seem to always look up when my family members are coming to get me, and they're far off. So it's not like I hear them. I think it's that way with family though.

Re: How instinctive are you?

If I set my alarm, I usually wake up shortly before the alarm rings. I don't understand it at all. It has happened too often to be a mere coincidence. It's almost like I can set an alarm in my own mind.
I don't know what to call that.

But "instinct", that's a rather broad term. And as reflexes go, I think I'm quite sensitive to movement and sound. At home, I sometimes hear things that others find too soft to hear. And I, too, frequently watch my back, or just simply survey my surroundings every once in a while. In some unfamiliar places, I first look around for "security hazards" before proceeding. My parents attribute this to caution, which they claim is rare in youths. Though I'm hardly a child anymore.

Re: How instinctive are you?

While I disagree with your statement that humans are animals(I prefer the term "creatures" lol)...

I guess I do have a hard time sleeping without my back to something, pillow, wall, etc. And I usually get a good first impression of a person really easily, even if they haven't even spoken yet. As far as loud noises and new smells, etc. go, I've mostly "mastered" nature(if you can call it that) in that I can identify them easily enough without looking or trying to hard.

Re: How instinctive are you?

I'm a very aware person. I see all that's around me. Only when I'm by my self though. When I'm with others I seem to ingore everything except who I'm talking to. Which is a fatal flaw with people I know. They come up from behind and poke me......

I am very aware when I'm asleep. I wake up at the slightest things. I never know what wakes me up, but I am always awake all of a sudden.

I'm not in tune with nature though. In California there are a lot of earthquakes right? So you'd expect I've felt at least one right? Well, I've NEVER felt an earthquake..... which is sad because out of nowhere my mom comes and says, "Did you feel that earthquake!?!" I'll just stare at her blankly. This has happened at LEAST five times.

Yeah this is also a part of something natural, to feel secure and comfortable in groups (more or less of course).
The occasions when people check their backs and watch possible threats are mostly when alone.
In a large group, you'd never think that two guys comming your directions could do anything to you, as your (hopefully) loyal friends would help you if you got into any kind of trouble.
Places you're famailiar with, such as home and school/work, also gives a feeling of being secure.

Re: How instinctive are you?

this is not really and instinct, but it is a thing that is great and very handy in our 'nature'
Since the age of.. eh.. birth, I have always been watching around, looking strangers in the eyes, observing everything. Because I kept doing that in a more discrete way, I have grown something( no, not that, you pervs ) I can easily see how someone is feeling, if he is lying, I can see what kind of person someone is by glancing at him/her. This is quite a good charactaristic, it is very helpful.
example: If someone walks up to me and starts talking to me, I can make a good quess how the person is and feels by looking at the face, clothes and body movements etc.

The fact that we all have instincts might be true, but some of that sounds like reflex. Our body reacts to ways to protect us on things such as unknown sounds and lights.

But things like playing soccer and fighting (which I know several guys who do this as well) is probably just a guy thing. Instinct? Call it what you will. And on terms of will, we all act on what we think and feel... the brain is a very complex thing... the way I or you or he or she reacts to one thing could be completely different from how some one else reacts to the same thing... Don't animals have the same instincts? The same species reacts the same way...
