Re: Zelda Universe for sale!?!?

Lars sold Lee the site for $25,000!

It is in the rest of the forum if you read them!

Nothing much we can do but hope for the best!

75,000 dollars is a little high. Sure ZU rocks but thats pushing it. And has anyone acually offered to buy it yet Lee? Not just like "I'd buy it if I could" thing but acually wanted to buy it...

I don't think he is the one acting like an idiot.

I'm surprised to hear about ZU being for sale. I hope it falls into the hands of someone with common sense, and not some slavedriver that will be the death of this place.

Re: Zelda Universe for sale!?!?

I just read the thread where ZU was being sold, and somebody's already bid $50,000. However they are also thinking of moving the forums over from vBulletin to IPB if they win the site

I'm not one to know anything about those web things. If the winner did switch it, would that be bad to some people?

I'm pleased that Lee is going to try to find someone that would put more effort into the site, though i do hope he's carefull on who he chooses. The worst ones are, ofcourse, the ones that are good at decieving and lieing. I doubt we would get someone who will totally destroy the site, so i'm not too worried. But if the site ends up costing money to common ZUers, i might have to leave. Still, i doubt it will happen, so i'm not too worried.

(( off topic : Wow, my post looks weird with only one smily. O_o ))

Re: Zelda Universe for sale!?!?

Well, it would be bad for me. What it means is that ZU would have to run on IPB (all the posts/members would be converted, so no loss there), but that would mean re-skinning it, re-intergrating the forums with the site, etc. Generally I think that vBulletin is way better then IPB, and if they convert to IPB then ZU just won't be the same.
But I'm sure the site isn't going to cost money to ZU'ers, ever. After all, ZU makes thousands of dollars from adverts alone.

Re: Zelda Universe for sale!?!?

... My goodness, it's not really going to matter. Unless the "new owner" is going to go into craze. Not as though it's interesting, I'm sure by now many people have seen a new webmaster and just settled upon it's fact.

Though, if anything does happened, I'll feel sorry Lee will have to leave. You actually never know, if anyone does purchase Zelda Universe, they could be good/bad. You'll just have to see. By the way, it'd be a hell lot of a job to be a webmaster of a place like this. Some people don't need to shell about $50 000 out just to by a website and community forum. O_o

Well, I'm sure it wouldn't be so bad. Unless, of course, the new owner was evil, and tottaly made ZU all, bad. Like, make us pay for our memberships. I may be speaking for only me, but I would instantly cancel my ZU account if they EVER started charging money, just because I'm poor.

But I'm sure that Lee will stay with us for a LONG time. (I hope...)

Re: Zelda Universe for sale!?!?

Gerudo: That was back when Lars ran the site and we had financial issues.

Eh. My thoughts on the subject aren't too brightening. Best to keep them alone. I've talked to Lee a tiny bit about it, but I haven't mentioned some things that I think are best to keep to myself until later, unless he finds reason to inquire about it to me after reading this post.

Performance Park is Lee. Lee goes by quite a few names, PP being one of them. sprintuserslee, speedpro50, are some others. If you visit The Admin Zone forums, Lee is registered as Performance Park there.

Also, Lars sold the site for A LOT less than $75,000 - let's just say that. But not a small price, mind you.

That's where the fiscal issue end. Hosting ZU isn't cheap in itself. You've got to remember that there is almost 10 gigs worth of data on this website, as far as I'm aware, and then there's the bandwidth on top. Now my guess would be around about 200gig a month, but I'm probably out. That requires dedicated servers, which in itself is highly expensive, I've seen them start for $200/mo. And that's for the worst, which wouldn't suffice here.

Selling his site for $23K means that he no longer has any financial issues.

Re: Zelda Universe for sale!?!?

I dont think a new owner would pay $75 000 just to screw with this forums...I mean think about it, they would want to get their money's worth...they would luike to get a profit. By upsetting members how can this person accomplish this. Plus $75 000 it not like pocket money or something...this is hardcore dosh, it is so much I probably wouldn't see something like that till I pay for a house or something.

Re: Zelda Universe for sale!?!?

Yeah. And it doesn't really seem like a good deal to pay that much for a site that costs a lot to host. I doubt the ads can even bring in enough cash to pay the server costs.

Oops, I hope there aren't any potential buyers reading this...

Why not? I definately couldn't afford that, but there are many people who can, because they already have other websites that pay out tons and tons of cash. People will bid on ZU as a serious investment, because ZU makes a LOT of money ($4,000 a month!).
And if ZU stays the same, then what harm's done just because of a new owner?
And Gezmok, $4,000 revenue every month is plenty of profits. Even the most expensive of servers ususally cost around $1,000 I think.
