UNBELIEVABLE MATH PROBLEM
Here is a math trick so unbelievable that it will stump you. Personally I would like to know who came up with this and why that person is not running the country. 1. Grab a calculator (you won't be able to do this one in your head) 2. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the area code) 3. Multiply by 80 4. Add 1 5. Multiply by 250 6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number 7. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again 8. Subtract 250 9. Divide number by 2 Do you recognize the answer? ![]()

Re: Unbelievable Math Problem!!!!
Yea, first of all, they wouldnt ask you for a phone number if it wasnt going to be a factor in the answer, and all you do is do a problem, and undo it in the exact opposite fashion, you should be able to do that in your head.

Re: Unbelievable Math Problem!!!!
Thats pretty cheap. Your just giving the calculator your phone number.
Your giving it the 1st part of your number and adding tons of numbers. Then giving it the 2nd part of your number and subtracting and dividing the number. It would be alot more impressive if you only had to enter in your first three numbers.

Re: Unbelievable Math Problem!!!!
I love these things. Although even more awesome and immature is getting the number 1134 and another I can't say on the forums...
.. But the birthday one is insane.

Solution
Neat trick. I like these things. My high school math teacher would actually make us solve these things using algebra. Let's see if I can still do it.
For those of you who don't want to be TOTALLY DISILLUSIONED and finding out the trick isn't magic, don't read this post. I could do spoiler tags, but meh. I got 5 minutes to spare, so... here's my attempt. Let's say your phone number is ABC-DEFG 2. The first number you put into the formula can be described as: 100A+10B+C (The hundreds and tens act as placeholder values for your number) Your second number = 1000D+100E+10F+G 3. Multiply your first number by 80 8000A+800B+80C 4. Add 1 8000A+800B+80C+1 5. Multiply by 250 2,000,000A+200,000B+20,000C+250 6. Add last four digits 2,000,000A+200,000B+20,000C+1000D+100E+10F+G+250 7. Add 'em again 2,000,000A+200,000B+20,000C+2000D+200E+20F+2G+250 8. Subtract 250 2,000,000A+200,000B+20,000C+2000D+200E+20F+2G 9. Divide Number By 2 1,000,000A+100,000B+10,000C+1000D+100E+10F+1G Done. So, if your phone number is 842-1294, where A=8, B=4, and so on, the final formula is naturally going to spit out the answer of 8,421,294. And now? I need a drink. Math nerds unite!

What happens when you have countries with numbers with 8 or 10 digits long?

Re: Unbelievable Math Problem!!!!
Why is that cool in anyway? I thought it was dumb, type 304 into your calculator and turn it upside down, that's what you are. j/k
But seriously, lame trick. |

Re: Unbelievable Math Problem!!!!
Ugh I hate things like that.
I don't think thier clever or anything, its very believable. This is a cool thing. Seriously, my Maths teacher was stumped for a while. VI IX How do you make the bottom number, become the top number by just drawing one line? Think about it. Its just one line, and the line doesn't have to be straight. |
