The Horror Movie Clichè

Today, I had a very inspiring thought. As soon as I can secure a job in Hollywood, I will once and for all revolutionize the horror movie genre! And it will be the easiest thing I've ever done, too. Curious? Observe.

Horror movies have been around for nearly several decades. In the beginning, they took images generally thought of as horrifying (such as the wolfman, genetically mutated animals, and the disfigured, flesh-eating undead) and conveyed them on-screen as colorless horrors. This was very appropriate considering what the genre was meant to do. However, as time went on and people became dulled to social taboos, the horror genre began to change. When blood made its first appearance in movies, I'm sure that everyone was shocked, though some were likely pleasantly surprised. Only a few years later, blood and gore have become a horror mandate. Okay, not too surprising. After all, the sight of blood and gore is very frightening. But soon after, something terrible happened to the genre: Someone took a damn shower! For some reason, nearly every horror movie followed suit, and soon it wasn't just people taking showers in the middle of killing sprees; eventually, implied sexuality became prevalent, and shortly after came obscenity. What has happened to movies? Why is it that no one can seem to get their point across without having someone take a shower or two teenagers going at it in "the Lake of Dead Idiots"?

Your homework for today: Find me a modern horror movie that doesn't show/imply someone showering/having sex. Ten cents to anyone who can succeed.

Re: The Horror Movie Clichè

OOH! OOH! Do edited versions count? Because the edited version of the new Dawn of the Dead has absolutely no hanky-panky. Just good, old-fashioned zombie killing. That's what I like about it.
That reminds me...I gotta look for the new Land of the Dead.(whenever i get a new zombie movie, I have a party at a friends house, where we drink lots of soda, play computer games, and watch the movie. It's too fun! )

edit: And I have to say, I admire your idea. Hollywood is too raunchy these days. We need more violence (the zombie/evil type, not innocents getting hurt.)

The Grudge and Boggeyman don't have sex scenes in them, I think. They are PG-13 so I don't think so. I am not a big horror movie fan so I wouldn't really know that much movies.:/

Re: The Horror Movie Clichè

That's impossible! The movie industy is getting to perverted, and stupid. The only one I can think of, but I haven't seen it, is Salem's Lot. The only movies that aren't perverted are the black and white ones, excluding Psycho.

There was one in the Grudge. But I'm pretty sure you're right about Boogeyman.

Re: The Horror Movie Clichè

Wow, that was fast. Five minutes, and I've already gotten four replies. Let's see... No, editted versions don't count. If it's editted for sexual content, that still means that the director is a prick and can't convey the mood properly without obscenities.

To be perfectly honest, I would be shocked beyond belief if The Grudge didn't have a lewd scene. For the love of all that is living, that is the most demonic, bloody thing I have ever seen a preview for. And it doesn't matter if you're not a horror movie fan, neither am I. ^_^ I've just seen a few here and there, and heard about many others. So far, I have yet to see a modern horror movie that didn't have lewd content.

The Boogeyman? Hmm... Well, can you really call that a horror movie if it isn't horrifying? Then again, most horror movies nowadays are just rehashes of old concepts that people have been deadened to, so I guess you can't jump at every dark corner. Too bad; the horror genre is losing its luster, thanks to the pervert executives up at Hollywood. And not just there, either. You'd be hard pressed to find more than five modern horror movie that didn't contain a lewd scene. Come to think of it, there may not even be five modern horror films without lewd content.

By the way, ten cents for GoronKnight. Don't spend it all in one place. I'll give Luffy his payment when he sees Salem's Lot and proves to me that it has no lewd content. Personally, I don't have much leeway when it comes to movies. My parents are horribly overprotective with my entertainment media. I don't see why, really. Haven't they sheltered me enough as it is? I'm already strongly opposed to premarital sex, what more do they want from me?

The Exorcism of Emily Rose?

Or is it Ashley Rose? I forget, but I don't remember there being a shower scene in that one?

Re: The Horror Movie Clichè

Some horror movies have few cliches to them. Off of the top of my head, I can name a few though I think some may not technicly be horror:

The Shining
Saw
The Exorcist: The Begining
The Exorcist

There may be more, but thats all I can remember.

Ten cents to Gecko. Who's next? C'mon, this is a quick fix to movie fandom fame! After all, you have to be quite the movie-goer in order to find a horror film that doesn't have lewd content. It's very rare that such a thing is ever produced after all.

Well, it's specifically the shower/sex clichè that I'm bringing up here. In my opinion, movies have gotten progressively more vulgar, and horror films are at the root of the problem. With all of the perverted things we see in movies nowadays, most have become increasingly more accepting of such vulgarities. Some may say that I'm simply too sheltered for my own good, or that I am a religious zealot. But consider that few directors nowadays can produce a movie that doesn't yield at least one sex scene. What's worse is that the audience goes into an uproar when someone stops thinking with their third leg and actually gets creative.

Not sure but my father told me that in the ORIGINAL Exorcist the girl has sex with a cross. Wouldn't that be a cliche, by WOTS' stadards?

Nope. There is no word for how wrong that is.

Never saw it. ...Okay, that was not the least bit funny. In any case, here's your ten cents. Now will you people kindly stop correcting me before I go bankrupt? I'm not made of green, ya know.

What about the Sixth Sense? That was PG-13 and I don't remember it having nudity or shower scenes.

D'oh! I knew that one! Why didn't I think of that? ...Yeah, the handout joke is getting old so I'll stop mentioning it. ^_^ In any case, it's good to know that there are directors out there with the ability to make a good movie without nudity and people dumb enough to get completely naked and wait in a lit white room while someone tries to kill them.
