Band- Nerdy/Cool

Last week when I was walking to a performance with my fellow band members, a guy shouted out "Band-nerd" at us. And in the band, if it was stereotyped, there would be "nerds" "jocks" "rockers" and "populars"

Basicly I would like to get your opinion on wether band is popular or un-popular in your eyes

I really have no opinion on people in band, but I definitely don't think of them as nerdy. I think it's cool, especially the playing an instrument part.

I don't see band as being nerdy at all.

Yer, I think he meant to say was "I'm so lonely and jelous that I don't have any musical talent or talent in general for that matter." I mean I play the piano and no one has called me a nerd or anything.

I totally agree with Alonely here it's definately not a nerdy thing at all, in fact muso's (term for music freaks like me eg:like jocks and nerds) are totally cool.

My school's social caste is really based on two things-- if you are nerdy and if you can play sports. Few pay attention to band at all-- and many of its kids are popular. It's just sterotypes-- my school dosen't seem to have much of them.

It's nerdy, it's geeky, it deserves to be made fun of, and whoever does, they deserve to be ignored.

Band's not nerdy at all. It's pretty cool, actually. They go on field trips, and they’re pretty good at playing some instruments. Here, if you're in band, you get called a band-geek. Even though I'm not in band, my friends are, and it pisses me off when people call them that.

Well, my crush is in band, too. He gets called a nerd all the time. He doesn't care anymore though. I told him to just ignore all that. Now, it doesn't really bother him anymore. ^^

Of the 1800 people who went to my high school, 200 were in the marching band. They generally didn't mess with us. Especially since the band was winning more than the football team.

Speaking of field trips, I went to New York this year, and will be going to London next year, my senior year of high school.

Well, performing arts at my school are big, since our Varsity Football team sucks, so hanging out in the band room and the Performing arts hall are the "cool" things to do, but that's just because we have an N64 back there.

Being in band is so awesome, cause if you are then you have some major talent. I don't play any band instruments, so its probably really hard. I love the movie Drumline. So yea, band is awesome.

Yeah, I'm in my high school's band, and people yell stuff like "Band nerd!!1!!!11!" all the time. It's just a stereotype. There are a lot of different "types" of people in band, and not very many are nerds.

I can't say band is nerdy because Im in a highschool marching band and it rocks. Everyone there is nice, funny, our school doesn't make fun of us either (band plays better than the football players cough) its basically why people come to football games in the first place. To watch US perform. Its really really fun but our teacher is serious band nazi and likes to use the word perfect a lot! Its kinda the only part of the day when I see my friends too. Bands kicks ash!

In fact, band wasn't even looked down upon in middle school and many people wanted to join it. I'd like to join my highschool bnad this year, but I don't want to give up cello or bass guitar for it.

Now that I think about it, I should have had my electives in middle school changed to band, and now that I'm in High School, I want to join it even more. I've always wanted to try out snair/percussion, because of my love of the rhythm and beat.

Nice, the only thing is half my school is in a music program and we have an advanced sports program

In my school they let bass guitars into the concert band and...my band has 7 of them

When I was in high school (college now), we were called Band Geeks, but we didn't care, cause that's basically what we were. My marching band was an awesome one too, and totally kicked ass! 44 years straight supirior ratings at states! Go us! We were deffently a lot better than our football team. When ever they would make fun of us, we would just point to our trophies, and then point to theirs. That shut them up.

Oh, well, I've only been in band for about three weeks now... so I'm not sure.

In my school people don't really get made fun of for being in band or anything, mostly because the whole school's pretty big on the arts. But then again, I don't have that much experience with it...
