Note: This thread is not for a Firefox/Opera discussion. Both of them are excellent browsers, but no one can deny that Opera has more features and is faster. The extention thing is due to FireFox's large userbase, and has little with FireFox itself to do, since Opera also has a well working plugin system (and a handy bar that you can turn on to the right, where you can set up html pages to work just like extentions).

I personally DO use Firefox, but once the internet is working on my comp again I should try Opera out. Wpptxprz!

If you speed up Firefox, I'm sure it's just as fast (if not faster) than Opera. I was looking at the features on the site, and there really weren't any that made me want to switch from Firefox. It looks just as good, though, but I really don't feel the need to switch to something that's so very similar.

Edit: Ok, I'm downloading it since I'm bored, I'll let you know how I like it in a bit.

Speeding up FireFox with the use of that extention = bad. Basically what that does is to rape other people's webservers. It goes faster for you, but it's really annoying for server admins.

Also, Opera and FireFox are far from the same. Don't expect to find a more advanced version of FireFox, because this is a whole different browser, and you have to adapt to it like any other new thing.

Hmm. Well, to be honest, I never actually sat down and started playing with what Opera offers...
I'm on my lunch break right now at work, and I started to read about all the functions Opera offers, and I'm actually eager to download it on my home computer tonight.
I'm looking forward to utilizing the POP-3 email system they have, since my current email POP-3 program is messing up on me right now.

Too bad the site is so jampacked with people you can't even download it. Fastest browser, slowest site.

It's so jam packed, I can't get on the site. So today, they are giving it out for free without the two lines of text?

I didn't use an extention, I changed the about:config settings.

Opera was fast, yes, but I really didn't notice a difference. There weren't any big features that Firefox didn't have, and I was disappointed that you can't download extentions for Opera (at least not that I could tell). So there really wasn't anything that made me want to switch. I still think Opera is a lot better than IE, though.

The extensions changes those settings FOR you. It's the same thing. You're upping the amount of connections you're making to someones webserver, and that's where the complaints come from.

I got it earlier before the site go packed with people. I'm happy I did - I hope this is a permanent license or something. I'd hate to find out it was temporary and have to pay for it later. Not like I would, I'm still very loyal to the Fox. But Opera is a good alternative if anything ever happened for Firefox to let me down.

Extentions are called plugins in Opera, and there are quite a few of them on their webpage.
Also, you didn't find any big features that FireFox doesn't have? :O
Built in: IRC, Torrent client, mail client (FireFox has Thunderbird, but not built in) etc. etc.
And it is faster, but not VERY much faster.

I'm fairly sure it's the licence for Opera 8.* (which will probably last a while, since Opera is current in version 8.02). Also, after that it's still free, but with those two lines of text

I downloaded it, seems very slow and I can't put all the buttons and the address bar on the same line which uses up my screen!

I prefer Opera to FireFox. IMO Firefox also has too many fanboys, these people keep talking about firefox but either do not use it or know nothing about it. Essentially they are following the crowd. Firefox ahs too many annoying niggles, for which Opera compensates.

On a more positive note. I just got opera and i have to say, im liking it alot. Better than Firefox and IE. All i can say is dont knock it 'til you try it and put any form of fanboy-ism aside for this. (not directed to you Rikid, but to everyone )

lol i'm going to stick to firefox for the rest of my days thank you, but however firefox does not yet support ipv6 so i have to opera until then (if i need to use it mind you)
