Yeah, but there had been bad weather in Florida so they landed the shuttle in California due to the fine weather conditions there.

hehe yep, go West Coast =P

It was awesome sight to watch it live... It was just this tiny dot and just keep on getting bigger... and bigger... and bigger... Untill it fulled the screen and there is was. Very impressive.

To think it was going over 18,000mph and after all that it comes to a stop.

Go America

Re: Discovery Landing, LIVE

Watched this live on TV last night. They put it on during an ad break during Taken. They also had it on Rove Live. The audience at Rove were pretty stupid, they kept laughing whenever they showed pictures, because they thought it was some joke they were playing.

Glad Discovery got home. Now let's just hope that human Space Exploration goes on unabated. I mean, once they fix the shuttle problems or once they get a replacement vehicle.

Re: Discovery Landing, LIVE

In one side of my mind, I wish they'd stop sending things up into space, just because of all the money, materials, and fossil fuel it uses. It's ridiculously expensive, not to mention taxing on our environment. On the other hand, space exploration is so cool! XD

Although it might eat up a lot of money, it is a much more noble endeavour than, say, War, which gets billions of dollars thrown at it. As comedian Dave Hughes said, 'George Bush is saying the shuttle program is pointless, a waste of money and getting people killed - let's stick with Iraq'.

Also, most of the fuel used to launch the space shuttle, I believe, is hydrogen which burns clean, leaving only water vapour. I'm not one hundred percent sure on that, though, but at least some percentage of the shuttle's fuel is hydrogen.

Re: Discovery Landing, LIVE

Compared to the other things the US likes to spend her money on, like clothes and jewerly, the amount of money the space program uses really isn't that much. Sure a couple million dollars will always be alot of money, but compared to the war defecite, it's like a pack of gum.

Just a found a site that explains what the shuttle uses fuel wise. The solid rocket boosters are the only ones that emit stuff harmful to the environment.

Here's an interesting article about the environmental effects of the shuttle: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/4130980.stm

I'm just happy they came home safe. Colombia was a disaster that I always have in the back of my head.
