Thoughts on America

I think its interesting that alot of people hate America. I would like to know the reasons. Or whats wrong with it, I think, its ignorance, or maybe too much competitiveness.

Re: Thoughts on America

I don't hate America. I'm far from it. It's that idiot, Bush (Jr.), that I hate. That guy is a warmonger if I ever saw one.

There are also reasons to dislike the states, such as crime, unsafe public schools (not all, but quite a few), and the fact that they kept their borders closed to Canadian beef for at least a month because of the mad cow scare with one infected cow. There was a good chance that cow came from the states. This allowed the US to boost its economy while crippling beef exports for us in the process.

SARS was also annoying as well. It wasn't just the USA, but the whole world that portrayed Toronto as a deathtrap. The message the media sent was one that said "Canada has SARS. It is unsafe to go to, do business there, buy Canadian products, etc. I was walking on the streets every day of the SARS crisis, and I didn't get sick. The disease was completely confined to hospitals.

Anywho, I don't want this to turn into an America-bashing thread, so I'll stop now.

Re: Thoughts on America

I want it to turn into an America-bashing thread. And yes, I'm an American. Actually, I just want more Bush-bashing.

He did good in the beginning; That's when I expected his dad was telling him what to do.... But now, I think that he's doing what he wants. When Bush was elected, I said he would cause a war within 6 months. Well, it's going to be a few years instead. I'm a psychic.

Re: Thoughts on America

I don't hate America either. Although I have encountered some...err...rude people from America during my trip, I don't think they're horrible people. But I do think that Canadians and Americans are different people. I won't go any further about that...

Re: Thoughts on America

This belongs in "Savage Nation". How about a mod transplants it?

SearanoX, seriously, the mad cow thing, better on the safe side. Its not a pretty disease, precautions should be taken. As for one country helping its own economy... how sinister. why would we seriously want to help our own economy when we can help a foreign nation's economy...silly us.

Its a certain philosophy certain people have. The left seems to have become the anti-everything party now. They arent for anything, they just seem to want to say they hate bush, war, America, etc.

As for what Katiiz said, of course. There are rude people from every country. It would be irresponsible to judge a nation by some vactioner.

I know precautions should be taken, but consider that almost a month passed after we had announced that no other cows were infected. The farmers whose herds were slaughtered lost next to everything.

Re: Thoughts on America

I don't have a problem with Americans. America, on the other hand, I find to be an incredibly negative presence in the world, ever since George W. was "elected".

Re: Thoughts on America

Now, I dont really know quite what happened. I'll say this, I dont think its very fair for the farmers. But in reality life isnt fair. Its terrible that people had to lose so much. Now, Canada may have announced that it weas all clear, was the US also involved in an investigation?

Yes, yes they were. I believe it was a joint investigation, if memory serves.

Re: Thoughts on America

I live in America and I know we're doing things wrong. Dubya probably wants to be at war during re-election time so that all the idiots who say "we can't be against the president during wartime" and "we don't want to change horses midstream" will vote for him, and let's face it, those people are far too many. What we ought to do is focus on our own problems and stop warring with people. And the whole "freedom fries" and "freedom toast" thing is embarassing. Must we hate some group of people all the time? If France were to help us all the time, it's not like we'd help them in a war we don't believe in. It just doesn't work that way. Some of the worst Americans say we shouldn't change anything because we're the best country in the world. We can always be better! We still have a crappy economy, childish laws against gay marriage, encouragement of racism against the French and so on.
Anyway, I know someone who may get into government much later in life, and he's one of the smartest people I know, so perhaps our problems won't last forever.

Re: Thoughts on America

Darth Kirby, terrorism is one of our own problems,. and we are concentrating on it. Economy is one of our problems, and we are concentrating on it. Notice how focus from the media is now on the war? Thats because of the good economic news that came in recently. Childish laws against gay marriage? So the French are allowed to refuse war because of their moral standpoint, but we cant refuse to do something because of our moral standpoint?

Racism? I dont see how its racism. We arent angry with the French because they are French , but because of their actions. Racism is such an over-used and misued word, nowadays its just a word peole use to scare politicians into supporting them.

Re: Thoughts on America

Okay, we already have a very smoothly running "I hate/love things about the world" thread. This is being locked (although it was started with a very clear agenda) and everyone please go to this thread:
Savage Nation

I know, it is mainly a focus on the war with Iraq...but everyone can continue this discussion in a flame-protected environment.

It's important to isolate fires, eSPECially the ones intentionally started.
