Dreams Question: True or False?

Put all dream-related posts in here. No need to clutter the forums with many incarnations of almost the same thread.

It is known to some that dreams are in fact black and white. Is this true? When you think about it, it is hard to imagine whether dreams are in b/w or colour. You may see one aspect of a dream e.g. an object, and remember it as being a certain colour, but then is the rest of your dream in b/w?

Re: Dreams Thread

I've only had two dreams that I can recall perfectly in black-and-white. MOst of my dreams are in color.

Those two dreams were from when I was like...3 and 5, btw.., although I remember them with perfect clarity. In fact, I wrote them down in like a couple staggered sentences way back then, too. Funny to look back at the scrawlings, now.

Re: Dreams Thread

Not necessarily true, most people dream in black and white, but not all. When I have lucid (dreams you control), and vivid (a dream that you can remember extremely well) dreams, they seem to be colour. But the majority of my dreams are in black and white; but I suppose you have a point. It would make sense if dreams were in black and white, but important aspects of the dream were in colour.

For those who care, writing down a few quick notes about the dream you had, as soon as you wake up; will increase your memory of dreams over time and eventually you will get lucid dreams more frequently

Re: Dreams Thread

I never had any. But I only remember my dreams vaugely anyway. It's a strange concept and I have no idea how to alter my subconciousness accordingly. Then again, I think I had one, that was a collection of memories about a black and white film/video game. I don't remember much anymore.

But on an intresting note. I have a friend from Mexico and he recently became fluent in English. He has dreams with people talking in Spanish, even people he knows from America.

Re: Dreams Thread

Dogs don't know the meaning of colour. They only ever see b/w, even when awake. It has been found by scientists.

Re: Dreams Thread

I don't recall ever having a dream in black and white. To my knowledge, all of the dreams I can ever remember have been in color.

On another dream related note, I've been having dreams here lately where I hear a joke in the dream. It's always really, really stupid jokes. They seem pretty funny in the dream but then after I wake up I wonder where something that dumb came from.

Strange eh?

Oh, and I've had dreams where I speak in Spanish, too...although I am not exactly "fluido" (fluid/fluent). I love those dreams.

All of my dreams are in vivid Multicolor. I don't remember having any dreams in my life ever not being in color.

Re: Dreams Thread

I can't remember any monochromatic dreams either.

Is there an explanation for them? The wavelength perception of your brain taking a nap?

Re: Dreams Thread

I recall having a set of black and white dreams as a child, all of them twisted nightmares. Always led me to believe they had something to do with horror when I still had them.

But, in the past decade+ I've not had a single dream devoid of color, so I'm not sure what they mean, really, since nightmares still come and go.

On the subject of foriegn-lanuage dreams, I've had one of those. Rather strange one, at that. Screaming at a restaurant owner is Japanese doesn't strike me as anything one would generally do in a dream. Oddly enough though, he spoke in English and it was I who didn't. It's a shame, I can't even remember what I said. All I can remember is that he was pissed about me tresspassing and had me killed by a squad of ninjas. ^^

Re: Dreams Thread

I don't know if the black and white theory makes much sense. If one can imagine color, then it's probably possible to dream in color. Maybe people back in the 20s and 30s dreamed in black and white?

Personally, I can't think of a single dream that I remember that was specifically black and white. I dream in shades of technicolor goodness.

Re: Dreams Thread

I vaguely remember some of my dreams.
Except for one...
About a year ago, I dreamt that my best friend went behind my back and hooked up with the girl he knew I had liked. So then I started not talking to him (in my dream) and eventually him and the girl I had liked started to hate me for some reason. We just stopped talking and went our seperate ways.
I dreamt it so clearly... as if watching it... And it was in full color too.
I woke up and felt so wierd... Like I couldn't trust him... I just ignored it and went on, but I couldn't shake the feeling...
And then the strangest thing happened about a week later... It came true, he stole the girl I liked and we never spoke again for the remainder of the school year (about 2 months as I recall).
So... yeah... That was the wierdest dream I ever had.

Re: Dreams Thread

My dreams have always been in resoundingly clear Technicolour with Dolby Surround Sound. I don't recall any being in Black and White. As for the significance, well, I guess if there's something in the dream that's in colour while everything else is black and white that object must be important or have some meaning for you.

Re: Dreams Thread

I've had a few dreams that were black and white, most had dark settings and usually took place in a night-like place. Most of my dreams that I remember were in color though, here's a big question about dreams though... Do blind people dream? And if so, is it just sound? Muahaha, now there's something to think about.
