Any ailments?

I know we've had threads like this before, but I felt like making another. So what conditions, diseases, ailments, etc., do you suffer from?

I learned recently I have scoliosis. That's a lateral curvature of the spine, painless and usually unnoticable (I never noticed it, except that my left rib cage is an eensy bit higher than my right one, and if I really look closely, I find that my hips are a tad uneven), but it can be progressive, which is bad. The thought of surgery makes my stomach churn (I don't want them cutting open my back!), but my mom keeps assuring me that they won't need to opperate. What really annoys me is how everyone ignores me with these sort of things. No one bothers to inform me about what the heck scoliosis is (I had to rely on Google), no one is showing me my x-rays, or telling me how bad it is. Why do the doctors seem to think it doesn't concern me, when it's my back?

Conversation:

Doctor: (Calls my mom over) Rachel has scoliosis. Come over here. Rachel, bend over. (I bend over. Doctor starts feeling along my back.)

Mother: I don't see it.

Doctor: (Pressing hard on my back) Right there.

Mother: Oh, yes, I see it.

Doctor: (Starts blabbing about X-rays and how I'll need to see this doctor and that doctor and possibly have a back brace and how surgery could be an option blahblahblah.)

Me: What?

No answer, of course. Sorry, I'm ranting. It just really annoys me. And now my dad's started treating me like some sort of diseased wierdo, asking if sitting upright hurts my back, and if I feel pressure along my spine, and how I souldn't have carried such a heavy backpack (even though it's not caused my that sort of thing), and constantly trying to feel along my back and see where the curve is. Shees, it's all so annoying...

I also suffer from mild OCD (it used to be serious), I used to have really bad hypochondria, I used to suffer from terrible migranes and panic attacks, I've got astigmatism in my left eye pretty badly, and my left knee has a habit of hurting really badly, and that's about it. I seem to have a lot of medical troubles, but nothing ever truly serious.

You?

Re: Any ailments?

Got diabetes when I was 10 months old, my eyesight is really bad, my spine's been twisted because of scoliosis and some other stuff ever since I was born... Yeah, I think that's it.

Re: Any ailments?

Well, lets start from when I was younger. When I was a few months old, I had a ton of ear problems, so I had to get those tubes in my ears. When I was four, I got Lyme Disease for the first time. When I was five, I lost a lot of hearing in my right ear due to a really bad ear infection. When I was six or sevemn, I got Lyme Disease again. When I was seven, I had a rock thrown at my head, which affected my memory. A few years later, when I was eleven, I found out I needed glasses. And right now, I have Lyme Disease for the third time in my life (you'd think I'd be immune to it by now...), and the right side of my face has a palsy (means the muscles are somewhat paralyzed) from the tick bite being so close to my face (luckily, it'll go away in a few weeks). Yikes, that's a lot of stuff that's happened to me...and I'm not that's all that's happened.

Re: Any ailments?

Well, I'm allergic to amoxicillin, I had to take meds for depression/ADHD when I was eight, thank goodness that's over, I have a habit of having a sore lower back, the end knuckle of my right middle finger is permanently swollen on one side, and I have two tiny warts on my right foot.

Sorry, I'm trying really hard to make a list, and some of that stuff doesn't count.

Re: Any ailments?

If allergies counts, I have that. I never learned to sneeze [don't ask, I just, I can't sneeze.], and I always sniffle. My head feels like it's full of snot sometimes, it's icky.

But I don't have glasses or any diseases or anything. Lucky me.

Re: Any ailments?

When you wear glasses, its mostly since your eyes have been damaged enough. I guess disease would sort of fit.

But yeah. I got glasses. I can see decently, but not read.

You?

My cousin had to have a surgery done for her scoliosis. she's fine now. i have a genetic acne problem that flares up every once in a while (i'm OCD about cleaning my face to make the acne on my face less intense). I just got some pills and cream to help nuke the bacteria in my pores. the stuff makes me light headed and dizzy. but i guess it's worth it.

Re: Any ailments?

For, me there is nothing i know about in terms of diseases. But there is a bloodline of Diabeties (spelling) in my family. My Grandparents both died of it and my step brother had a bit of it. I Always eat too much sugar and i don't even like it that much. it just seems my body needs so much of it. But lately I have been eating less sugar and bad foods. (which caused me to lose lots of weight) LOL. But this summer i'm getting a blood test and cholestrol (sp) tests so i'll know then if there really is a problem. But even if i had a problem i would probobly be in lots of pain. but i feel no pain anywhere in my body.

For the people here with aliments and diseases I wish you the best of luck in overcoming them!

Re: Any ailments?

I have no diseases that I know of. I'll I've got is severe allergies, which I take shots and medicine for, and a minor case of asthma, which is so minor that all it does for me is make my breathing harder when I work out.

Oh, and I also suffer from severe allergies to wheat, which my mother has decided is the cause of my digestive problems. So that means that I can't eat any grain product, and leaves me with potatos, soy, and rice. Of course, we never have any of my special food in the house, so I end up eating meat and other high fat-wheat free products. When I finally get some more Wheat-Free breads (and etc.), the fats and carbs combine for the terrible "Cheating-on-the-Atkins's-Diet" effect, which severly sucks.

Re: Any ailments?

Well, I've got rather poor vision. I've also got acid reflux disease. I've always had lots of stomach and digestive problems. I can eat something one day and be fine but I may eat the same thing the next day and have heartburn and nausea all night long.

Other than those things, I'm fit as a fiddle. ^^

Re: Any ailments?

Nothing very severe, just bad-ish vision (I wear contacts) and an allergy to dandelions and smoke, not fire smoke, cigarette smoke. Many of the people in my family have died or had heart attacks because of eating too much, smoking, and drinking. I don't think I have to worry about that, I can barely finish a kids meal at Mc Donalds and the smell of alcohol makes me sick. I'm pretty healthy...minus the candy and junk food and pop and too much T.V. and......

I feel very lucky compared to some people though.

Yeah but I have a spinal problems because of scoliois. I hate it for the most part because I can't do anything about it. I thought I had asthma at a time, and when I got tested for it I found out I had this.

Re: Any ailments?

I have to wear glasses. I'm nearsighted (isn't that what it's called when you can see things close up, but have trouble with things far away?). I think it's genetic, because both my mom and dad wear glasses...The prescription for my glasses is pretty strong.
I have seasonal allergies, no food allergies, thankfully. ^_^

So, I'm healthy (at least, healthy in terms of diseaseness. I don't exercise much, and I eat too much junk food...but I'm not fat! Yay for my high metabolism!).

Unfortunately, I have a very high risk of getting skin cancer. I have fair skin and freckles, which, according to an encyclopedia on diseases, puts me at a high risk for it. My mom had skin cancer, so there's the genetic factor, too. Joy.
But, it could be worse. A lot worse. When my mom was pregnant with me, the doctors looked at the ultra-sound, and thought I was going to be born with a liver disease (I have a half-sister with that disease) but I wasn't. Yay! ^_^
