The sword and its anatomy

My first encounter with this forum was a discussion whether the Master Sword would appear in the Twilight Princess or not. People didn't know what to call the parts of the sword so I figured out I'd help you guys out. I have done some western medieval martial arts over the last five years, and I picked this overview up from my former club of sword-duelling:

(the weird language you see next to English is Norwegian )

I hope this will be of help to other Master Sword fans in the future. (Btw, by the looks of the Master Sword, it's got to be very poorly balanced, or the pommel will have to be made from the heaviest metal in the world and the blade from the lightest)

PS: The blade is naturally called - the blade

Hah. When compared to things like the Great Fairy Sword and the Biggoron Sword, the Master Sword's balance is actually all right

Link must have developed some extaordinarily strong wrists and arms, heh.

Nah, it was probably the silver gauntlets. Or training with the Megaton Hammer.

Thanks for sharing that, Linoheartie. I hadn't heard some of those terms before (the English ones, I mean - the Norwegian goes way over my head!).

Thank God, finally someone who has taken European martial arts! Everyone on this forum thought I was crazy. To those of you who didn't believe me, fye on you! (Just kidding).

Everyone thinks that Europeans had no means of self-defense whatsoever. Well, they did!

Neat topic.

I never liked the Master Sword anyway. And I agree with you about the lack of balance, the grip of it is pretty tiny(at least I thought it was) compared to the actual blade. And I would have prefered a longsword, which is sort of its design but I thought it wasn't that lengthy. Claymores rock though. And I could not imagine Link with a rapier...

Not to mention extreme endurance skills. I don't think anyone on Earth could run infinitely like Link can in OoT and WW without any rest.

Yeah but I love swords.

I like the Master Sword, and it actually looks like it'd be quite balanced to me. Maybe there's goron dense rock in the pommel, and ultra light Zora metal panned from the river.

I'll tell you, hon. If my sword was consctructed like that, I wouldn't be able to do much more with it than lift it and show it off.

Now when it comes to LIKING/disliking the whole Master Sword, I love it, and most of the times I get it (remembering OoT especially), my back chills and I go all... "oooooo"
