Death
If a moderator closes this for whatever reason, I can understand. It surprises me that a thread like this wasn't created sooner, or at all, but I composed a search and came up with nothing.
What is the one thing that mankind will never understand or truly know what is like? The one thing that man has pondered so much throughout the history of human beings as we know it is none other than death. In earlier years, I thought about death a lot. What in the heck happens when you die? Is there a heaven, or hell? I would ponder about it constantly, my greatest fear would of course be dying. So what happens? What decides heaven and hell? Okay, people have without-a-doubt claimed the existance of heaven and hell as we know it, but what exactly happens in these places. What's heaven like, what's hell like? Answer: Nobody really knows. Anybody who has experienced death, would never be able to tell anybody about it. Get this, you have dreams about death right? Dying? You have dreams where you are falling from infinate places, if you have a fear of heights. You have a fear of getting eaten by dogs, a fear of canines. You have a fear of drowning, you sink, and just as you are about to pass away... You wake up. What the heck is up with that? The only way I can interpet this is that since we have no absolute clue on how painful death is, at all, or what happens after. This is exactly why we cannot dream about it. This isn't a topic dealing with religion, this is a topic dealing with the fact that no matter what religion you are, you still have no absolute clue what being dead or dying feels like. That's the only point I'm truly trying to make.

Re: Death
For me, its an immensely hard subject to talk about. And I never think of it much, since it usually just causes me grief to think about it. Life isn't a video game, I tell myself and I try to apperciate the greatest joys of it but the shadow of death always hangs around. Breaching the void of conciousness is a grim matter for me. It never is a pleasent thought-- to know that there is no going back after that. That your mind will lose all tangible binding with the world and knowledge we know as it is. And yet all around it, life goes on. And yet all your acomplishements can fade away, only become a distant memory. You have to wonder how great of an impact you have left on this Earth and then realize that it is cut short by death. And simply, leaving everything behind is the greatest fear. And I don't know what point I'm trying to make, except that I don't want to think about it. I'm thirteen and the thought of a death at any time. I could be dead tommorow or right after I finish this post, who knows? And I really wonder if I will die a happy man, or if I will even realize it at all. The world beyond is a mystery, and I really applaud the intention. Only the dead should truly now and yet we don't even know if they have a tangible
presence anywhere, anymore. It's frightening. I try my best to think of the afterlife as a pleasent experience. But to lose all feeling and conciousness...to lose all the accquired knowledge and memories... |

Re: Death
You're right. Nobody will ever in the history of man know what death is like. Your parents may tell you that it is a comforting experience, but how are they to know? They're simply trying to make you feel better. For all we know, it could be the most angonizing, painful thing that could possibly happen to someone.
The other thing is that you brought up is, what happens after death? Once again, nobody will ever know, and while scary, that is the way it is meant to be. This is another one of those things that is frusterating to think about, because there is no answer. This is going to sound strange, but how can someone just plain not exist? How can you see nothing? Same thing applies before you were born. Do you see blank white or pitch black, or do you live in another world? It just doesn't make sense to me. I'd like to think there is a heaven, but you really never know for sure. |

Re: Death
Note to posters: I recommend that we DO keep religion out of this. My first urge is to quote from God's Word, the Bible, and so I'm not going to participate in this thread unless I come up with something else to contribute...and I could tell about people I know who have been dead for periods of time and then been restored to life by God, but few believe me, anyway.
So yeah, keep religion outa this thread, if at all possible. Thanks.

Re: Death
People have always feared the unknown, and always will. Death. What is it? Does it hurt? What happens after death? No one knows, N one will probaly never know, perhaps you are asleep and dreaming about what youve always wanted if your good, whereas if you were evil, you would have nightmares of your darkest fears, perhaps you go to heaven, perhaps hell? No one will ever know till there time comes. But we were no created to worry about the end, and neither were books. Humans were made to live out there chapters, and once there chapter is over...no one knows...
But if we were created to worry about the end...there would be no beggining, just as this, there may be a Yin here, but there will also be a Yang, It may seem bad, but it will have something good.... or perhaps there is something beyond this all, something beyond opinions, perhaps we dont die, we just go to another world to live there, and those who refuse or were not ready for death stay behind as spirits... Re: Death
The idea of what comes after death (and I will now talk about if as if I have no religious orientation, which will be hard) is really an interesting suject, I'm glad you brought it up. It's scary to think about... and mandkind has always been afraid of the unknown. If you've never been hundreds of feet below water, in the deepest, darkest, most deathly feeling place you will likely feel like any moment you'll just... wake up, or something will happen to get you out of this situation. I wouldn't know. Like going down a rollercoaster for the first time. You just have no way of knowing, and that causes us to feel fear.
I'd like to think there's something left for me after death besides nothingness. But I just have no way of knowing. What does nothing feel like? To me it's the few seconds after I die in a dream where I see a color I can never describe and I feel, or rather, not feel anything--- just numbness. My brain can comb through everything I've experienced in my short life and put me in odd immaginary situations that turn out to be strangely close to how it feels in real life, but since I know nothing of death, my mind draws a blank. There aren't any cards left in my deck. Maybe believing what we want about what happens after death is a way people have tried to comfort themselves since the beginning of creative/religious thinking. And I hope I don't have to experience what death feels like, or what comes after, for a very long time. Life is fine for now, thank you very much. On a side note, I'm listening to that piece of music that was reportedly leaked from the TP OST, but was proven fake. Beautiful music, really sets the mood and causes me to actually bother to type about the deepest of all subjects- death. Normally I just stick to pancakes and timeline theories. ![]()

Re: Death
I'm afraid of death. Don't know why. Even though I know that death is part of life cycle process, I can't help but feeling scared of such concept. What would happen when you die? Eternal blackness? Eternal of emptiness? One thing's for sure, when you die, you no longer existed. There's no "you" anymore.

Re: Death
Death is a difficult subject for me, whenever I start to accept it, something always makes me fear it. Your all right, we will never know what happens when we die or after we die if there is an after. It all comes down to what you believe. I like the idea of "living forever" after death, maybe when you die all your memories will fade away in a sense, but I think that there will always be something of you that remains, waiting to start over, in a plane of existence that has no order. Maybe what happens when you die is something that our physically bound spirits can't comprehend. It's a strange feeling for me, I don't fear death itself, but I fear not knowing what is going to happen.

Re: Death
Death. Insane. I can't even begin to describe such a matter. As Shiek said earlier, how the hell do we know what it is like? Do we even know? I mean, hell it could be absolutly horrible. The worst pain imaginable. Horror, terror, ugh bad...but we don't want to think that. We kind of have this impression that it is peaceful...maybe it's not.
Sadly, I have to go. I would love to go into a lot of detail about this topic, but I must leave. I'll be updating here and there though.

Re: Death
As Socrates said-
'I might hope that death is the end of all life, for if there is nothiing after death, eternity is but a single night's sleep.' Don't think that's the exact quote, but you get the idea. I believe there's a heaven and hell, and that at some point our souls will find their ressting place in peace. But until that happens to me, i don't care to worry so much. No, i don't want to die, but i don't let the fear of death get in the way of living life. And what you said about death in your dreams is quite true. Many times, i've had a dream where i fall from a high place, or something bad happens and i know i'm going to die, and then wake up right before i thought i would. Now, you could romanticize this and say that God has made it so that man has no perception of what true death is like, but i think it is better to say that we wake up because dreams are sensed as reality when they happen, and our animilastic instinct is overwhelming fear right before we die, which wakes us up. Anyway, i plan to continue living for a while ![]()

Re: Death
I'm a Deathphobic person so I don't think about it very often. It does baffle me though. What happens when you die? Do you go to heaven? Hell? We'll never no. Unless you died and then came back to life, but that's not possible. Except in stories. It might eventually become reality, but we may never no 'cause we may be dead our selves.

Re: Death
The way I think about it, we're only human, and we can't spend all our wonderful moments on this earth waiting too see it end, so we should just live life and enjoy it day by day until we get a nice little surprise ending.

Re: Death
Death...
What can I say about death other than it's beatiful. Well, for some it may be. For some it may be the most horrible thing in the world. It all depends on your outlook of it. I think Heaven and Hell is decided on whether you believe in their existence or not. Maybe if you don't believe in either, you'll go to a Purgatory-like place. Even if death is the most painful experience there can possibly be, afterwards you'll be immersed in an enternal peaceful sleep. Maybe if you choose to stay too attatched to this world after "Departing", you'll be able to come back. In other words, reincarntion. Who knows, maybe you're the reincarnation of someone else. You wouldn't have any knowledge of you past lives. You wouldn't know how death feels, Except for you to experience it once again. It's just a cycle that goes around and around. Deal with it. If you can't accept death, then you can't accept life. Without death, this world would be in complete chaos. it would be so over-populated, we would have eventually wiped out the entire human race long ago. Think of it, A world where people like Hitler were still alive. I could go on and on, but I really must wrap this up. In other words, generally Death = Good. -Necro-

Re: Death
Death is something, That I don't think I'd like untill its over. You could think forever about the after life. Heaven or hell. One thing is though, death is terrible to those affected by it. My mother died when I was 4. I'll of course never be the same. I always wonder what she is thinking right now. Are they good thoughts, or bad ones. It's all just too overwhelming. I always pictured myself dying at old age, while sleeping. That would be the most painless experience ever. From there though, where do you go. Isthere such a thing as heaven or hell. Do you get incarnated, who knows. I believe there is an after life of heaven and hell (I don't want to get too religious, so I'll stop there)
