Hamster/Gerbil Cages

I was wondering if any of you guys were like me and liked to build the cages as big as you can get them. As of now I have 3 cages with tunnals linking to each of them. I whished I had a way to take a picture to put on here. You guys would be impressed

Any way this thread is for you to tell about your hamster/gerbil cages.

I do not have a hampster or gerbil. But at my local pet store they let you build them for their hampsters if you ask. It is amazingly fun and You can use anything that hey have out of a box at the molment. I love all the little areas for them. For some reason I like to be like in inclose areas, so I always figure the hampsters like to too, so I always give them some little nooks and crannies to get into

My rats have a huge cage, with tunnels, ladders and small houses to sleep in. They are so cute when they crawl around in there ^_^

My chinchillas have a large, simple cage. They have a big root inside, they love to sit on it. And they have a corner where I put the sand, so they can wash themselves. They have a wooden house, and some stuff they can jump from a bit below the ceiling of the cage.

The guinea pigs have a cage similar to the chinchillas, but they have 3 small houses instead of all the other stuff.

I've never actually owned a hamster or a gerbil, but my teacher in the 3rd grade used to raise and breed them. She had a pretty big cage with a wheel and a few tunnels, and in her class, we would rotate each day on who would change the water, food, things like that. Anyway, I would love to have a hamster or a gerbil of my own, but I don't think that will happen for a while.

I've owned rodents before, and cleaning their cages aren't fun at all. I don't have rodents anymore.

I had some awesome cages when I did have rodents though.

I make little play-places. It's better to have a maze of sorts with tunnels and ladders instead of just one giant room. The hamster/gerbil can't reach most of it and it just looks plain.

IMPORTANT STATEMENT: Tiny cages are CRUEL.

Anyway, no I used to own a lil' hammy called Dusty and I got this Rotastack cage which was cool for adding hundreds of tubes and stuff...

But what I really enjoyed to do was line up video tapes around our lounge, creating a really cool maze (seriously, if you haven't done this with your hamster, go try it cause they love it!) And yeah my hamster used to get real hyperactive when he got going through the tunnels and all the dead ends and um, sometimes completely tearing down the whole thing when it attempts to climb OVER the walls :confused: ehem but apart from that it was real fun.

I also enjoyed to design little 'play dens' out of boxes adding a ton of interesting things in there - toilet tubes, bits of food, obsticals, the usual stuff - and then seeing what my hamster thinks of it! I think I lived up to expectations
