Entering High School

Anyone here starting high school this fall?

I am, and I'm pretty nervous about it. But at the same time, I am very excited. I'm sure that not only will the classwork be harder, but also that it will be harder socially. But I also know that almost everyone else who is about to enter high school feels nervous as well.


And if you're already in high school or already have graduated, tell us how to survive the jungle that it is commonly called .

So am I. I',m going to one of the toughest High Schools here in Providence, so its very nerverecking for me. Hopefully we will do fine in High School, hopefully...

im starting 9th grade this year im nervous but exsited(sp) because i get to do marching band the only reason im nevous is because im very shy its a big school when i start school i normally dont talk to any one unless i know them personally or they start talking to me even when they do talk to me i stay very very quiet and if you ask any of my friends ( iguess you cant) im normally very loud when im with them

Hm. Seems like there's quite a few of you. I would be one of them as well. I'm not awfully looking forward for it. I despise school with a strong malice not just for reasons relating to the academic stuff of classes but I really, really get nervous around any people in general(read: nerd with serious problems). And it's also one of the first steps into adulthood. I really don't like that fact. Loads of responsbility are being shoved up my face too much at once for my own liking these days. And it dosen't comfort me either that high school is really the deciding factor for my own future and job outlook. My dad's been pressuring me all summer that high school is really where it counts, that nobody will look at my middle school records later on(though he still badgers me about how bad I did i last year). And really, my parents and adults can't help me anymore with anything anymore. It scares me, but I guess I want it over with.

I recently graduated (june) honestly, i can say that high school was great, a lot of things happened to me during the four year run. my junior and senior years were the best, my freshman year was "iffy" and i dont really remember much from that year anyway. It all went by beyond fast. Being nervous is natural, but dont be afraid--the years will go by fast, theres no time to be worry about things. yep...

High School is a piece of cake. When I was going into the 9th grade I was nervous. However, once you get into the work of things it really is quite fun. I have much more fun at High School than I ever did in Middle School. Of course we were all afraid of swirlies but that rarely happens Don't worry, the first day or two may be nerve racking but after that it is a breeze. Make sure you make plenty of friends...friends=good.

The work doesn't get much harder (IMO) but I guess it depends on what school you go to. You are expected to be more responsible in High School so say goodbye to late work. At my High School teachers do not accept any work that is late.

Basically if you try to enjoy it and not dread it than things will be great but if you worry about it than it only makes things tougher. Good Luck and enjoy your High School careers.

I'm entering my Sophmore year now, and don't worry, your gonna have a blast. And some reason for me, the school work in middle school was alot harder than it is now. And I'm sure you guys will have fun, just be social, and go to dances and sports and you'll survive. With me, I made alomost all of my friends in High School by joining the football team, So joining a sport is a good way to get tons of friends, and I got plenty cause our team had about 87 people on it. There supposed to be the best years of your lives, so enjoy them . Good Luck!

I'm going into highschool. not nervous at all! I'm in band so I have a ton of upperclassmen friends and such! As Mirren told me, get some friends up top and you'll have a blast (well..not exact words..but close enough)

Grade nine isn't the most difficult of things, trust me. It's pretty easy to make friends because, like K9doggie said, everyone else there is just like you. Gym is probably the easiest way to make friends, that's how I met most of mine, and it's a fun class. The classes are, of course, harder, but it's going to get just as much harder as it was when you went from kindergarten to grade 1. I'm going into 11 right now, and trust me, going up in grades during high school is the same as in elementary school (okay, except for the fact that they'll actually fail you, rather than just say "try harder next time"). Maybe I'm just a naturally smart person, because the academic aspect of Secondary School wasn't a big difference to me. All I have to say, is that it's going to be difficult if you believe it is. I went into the ninth grade thinking it was the easiest thing, and it was for me. Others thought it was dreadful, and it was for them. (Okay, cheesy line, but it's kinda true...)

I'm going into sophomore year at highschool, and let me tell you, my first year was awesome. I made friends right away and with a little bit a studying and concentration I made it through the year alive and with pretty decent grades. Actually, highschool work is not much different from middle school work. So don't sweat it about highschool. One word of advice, participate in things like sports and clubs, you'll make more friends that way.

Marching Band is a good way to meet upperclassmen friends.

Anyways, I'm going to be a Junior (11th grade). If you're a freshman, don't sweat, just don't act like you're a tough-ass and everything will be fine, if you're going around picking fights, you're going to get picked on, if you just lay low and hang out with your friends, you really have nothing to worry about, unless you go around like 'YUGOIOH LOL GUYZ'.

I'm going into High School too.
I'm not gonna know anyone because I just recently moved here in the summer.
I don't really know how I feel about it. Just kind of... Eh...

Now, can any of you guys help with class reccomendations? I really want to get into a good college, but it seems that I have to take all these boring, generic, regular classes(elective included-- foriegn langauge). I want to stray a little and have some fun, you know. But it just seems that the only way to is to dismiss all those little classes and take on just the basic stuff for the same four years. Any advice?

Well, I'm one of the kids who went into highschool, sat around, did much of nothing and got really high grades. Teachers hate that you know ^_^

What you do it just chill ^_^ Have fun, and dont piss anyone off really...

ALSO, Remember this... Your GPA is NOT the most important thing... REMEMBER...
If you are taking Advance placement classes and someone in lower ranked classes has a higher GPA then you, it means nothing... Becuase only in highschool do they make a big deal about it... As SOON as you get that Diploma they quit looking at your GPA as much, they start for your SAT scores... Remember, you're in an Advanced Class and getting a lower GPA then someone in normal classes has a higher GPA... Remember, YOU learned more, adn thus have a higher SAT...

Well, that really had nothing to do with having a good time in high school, but, it does help you for your future...

Like i said, just hang out with your friends... I'm going to be a senior this year and I never had a problem in school... Well.. Ok, sleeping in class is a problem... BUT, other then that... ^_~ just have fun, and as Kazen said... If you're gonna talk about Yu-GI-OH... do it privately and dont let anyone see your Cards lol. I'm not into it myself, but i've seen kids trading pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh cards get picked on so bad...

2.) join a sports team
3.) Join... some kind of "atheletic" group =P

I am entering highschool, and I am not nervous about the work, but the other kids. The school i have to go to is.....lets say in the "hood. we a series of gangs that hang around there, and if they catch you while your off to lunch they do like really really bad **** to you. but My best friend is 6 feet tall and is buff, so hopefully he's got my back lol. My other friend is such a loud mouth it pisses me off, he calls on kids that he can't take on and then gets us all in ****. My idea is to avoid this kid for the first bit, which shouldn't b hard because I only have Gym with him
