Time for a new monitor?

Alright, I just turned my comp on. My monitor seems to hate the color black, and apparently white too. So it turns black and white into red. Is this bad? My dad said not to worry about it too much. But I still want to have a little concern.

And I did restart my comp.

Re: Time for a new monitor?

Sounds like it could be on the way out.

I've gotten through a lot of monitors during my PC using days, and I'm surprised how fickle they all are. I hope it doesn't develop into anything worse, but I'd start saving a bit of money for a new one, just in case.

Re: Time for a new monitor?

Go to a monitor shop and have the guy look at it. He could probably get it fixed easily, or if the problem is a little worse than can easily be fixed, you could just trade it to him for a new one. That all depends on if you have a monitor shop, though.

Re: Time for a new monitor?

I'd say your monitor is about to meet it's maker.

You can get a good, cheap Samsung 19" CRT monitor for Tiger Direct or Newegg. I bought mine at BestBuy but I'd suggest getting one online cause they're cheaper.

I have this monitor. Here lemme show you:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001166
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1077629948643

These are my suggestions. Hope you find a good monitor.

Re: Time for a new monitor?

Well, I don't think I've even had this monitor too long. 1 or 2 years, tops, at least I think. Wouldn't a monitor last a bit longer than that?

PS. Do those really thin monitors not last a long time? Since that's what I have (screw those fat monitors).

Re: Time for a new monitor?

Well if you've got $600 in your pocket, then go ahead. Personally I think the CRT monitors are better than the flat LCD monitors. One, LCD monitors have an filter effect if you view it from none other than head on; two, CRT monitors can attain higher resolutions than LCD monitors (Im running mine at 1600x1200), you'll probably run yours at 1024x768 at the most; third, LCD monitors would probably break easier than CRT monitors conisdering they're made of liquid crystals hence LCD = Liquid Crystal Display.

Id say get the CRT, they're more worth-it.

I never would have thought a larger monitor to last longer than a flatscreen. Well actually that does make sense.

^Buy the same monitor that he has now

Monitors don't cost that much.... Especially when you are using CRT monitors. Of course, the bigger you want to buy, the more expensive it is for CRT. Same with LCD but LCD is much more expensive than CRT from the start. And the bigger you want, the more expensive.

And you should change the monitor as soon as possible. CRT monitors are already bad enough for your eyes and with such problem arising, it'll do more damages to your eyes.

LCD is more safe. It won't hurt your eyes that much because it is not outputting radiations. And this is the LCD monitor that I currently have:

http://computing.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/ps_343462/114401.html

It costs around $500 CND.

Re: Time for a new monitor?

Monitors really shouldn't break every 2 years, you know. The monitor I'm using has been in perfect working condition for over 8 years.

Depends. There are lots of factors that can break a monitor: weather, climate, the way of usage, the frequency of usage, faulty wiring, display card problem and not the monitor itself (this might also be a reason for the black and white to red color thing), etc.

When you do graphic work, you really appreciate higher resolutions. Mines at 1280x1024, which is max because of my ****ty graphics card.

It could also be a cable problem. That happened on a monitor a friend of mine had. Just wiggle the cable end that goes to the computer.

If you end up needing a new monitor, CRT is the way to go. Those are the clearest screens you can get. And better for gaming too.

Yeah....hes exactly right. CRT is much more usefull overall. Don't get LCD. I run mine at 1600x1200 because I have an ATI Radeon x700. I run most of my games at whatever res is in between 1600x1200 and 1280x1024.

Re: Time for a new monitor?

Also leaving your monitor on doesn't help. Set you computer to leave your monitor on standby instead of a screensaver. It will save power and life.

Re: Time for a new monitor?

Sony's XBlack LCDs are wicked (if I'm selling a PC, I big these up LOADS) but don't come cheap. The ones we do are £369 for a 15" and £499 for a 17" so that in US$ would be... $668 and $904.

Weather: VERY hot today, and my monitor backfired on me today. Coincidence? Maybe.
The frequency of usage: Uh...Every day for around 6 hours a day.

I might have found my problem.

It gets very hot where my computer is. (During the summer, anyways) It's one quite frequently (from the time I get home from school till I go to bed, whether I'm on it or not) And I've had it for nearly 7 years. And it works great.
