Guns or Swords

This little Halo fanboy on my street (can't stand him) saw me outside practicing with a wooden sword with my friend and told me swords are gay. :mad:

Anyway, yes, swords. Much more honorable than pointing and pulling a trigger.

For all practical purposes, a gun can beat a sword hands-down, but if my opponent and I were going to have to use the same weapon... I'd still go with a gun. I don't like the idea of killing someone anyways, and there's still a lot of challenge to a gunfight. Most people try and present the case as simply a matter of "point, shoot, and they die", but a person with a gun has to both have aim and has to be able to get a good shot on their opponent without being shot in return. If people just *run* at each other with guns, then of course the fight's going to be stupid - there's no strategy in that!

But if I had my choice, I wouldn't choose between either one - haven't any of you ever heard of a gunblade? ... though I guess that really is just a shockwave-sending sword and pretty darn ineffective for people without amazing timing, but either way, gunblades are *really* cool-looking.

well we are talking about realistic weapons, not FF weapons

Swordplay has become romantic for some reason. All this talk of honour etc. etc. is bull. The reality was that you would be on a battlefield in a hectic melee and some big heavyset guy would batter your weapon aside with brute force and then hack and bludgeon you to death. Would you really want to be bludgeoned to death? Hell, would you want to be ran through with a rapier, even? Cut open with a Japanese katana? I'll take getting shot in the head any day. "I want to give my opponent the chance to fight back!". Pfft. The hell you do. You want him to die and yourself to live.

...I guess the stance I'm taking is kind've ironic though, given that I'm a fencer :razz: .

I happoned to be talking about the debate. I think weopons are not usless I believe that if you have to fight use a sword. If you have no choice than use a gun okay now I will walk away from this flame fest for a while. If you would like to find me look in the battle dome.

Has anyone ever seen one of the last scenes of The Last Samuri (spell?). Well thats how I feel about guns. All of those men fighting with swords and honor then a chaingun is opened up on them. I wanted to kill everyone of them :mad: . I think that if you use a gun it's because you don't feel you can win at close range combat with a sword, your afraid to get hurt. Now I'm not saying that every army should abandone their guns and fight with swords. I just think that swords command more respect.

I agree with him I like youy I love that movie as it shows the dishonor ment of swords.

Yeah. I agree I take karate which is The Art of Empty Hands. You do have honor fighting with your hands,true. But does that mean every bar fight is honorable? Anyway the thread is about guns and swords not guns swords and hands.

Plus The Last Samurai is pure fiction. There was a samurai rebellion against the reform, but they did use guns.

And what's honourable about feigning retreat and leading your enemy into a fire trap anyway? Seems kinda sneaky and dishonourable to me. Not that honour means much beyond the right to decapitate a peasant in the street...

yah, guns are kool, but involve no skill, just pull the trigger and dead (unless your some matrix person ) swords involve skill, where to attack... and such, if i could choose, i would make guns extinct

Well I think both are good. A high tech gun for long and medium range and for short range use a sword.

Swords are awsome. Swords you can like use them to bloke bullets but with a gun it will make a little explosion i think. besides swords are better than guns because swords are more bloody and gorey.

Seriously, you can't do it. Unless you had super fast speed, (which is impossible) you cannot block bullets with a sword.

only the buster sword is the best. Oh yes you know it. I have to say swords.

I'd personally choose swords just for the romantic notion of the classic sword battle between knights. Although they're definitely outdated by guns, sword battles are like a form of art because of the skill level and all of the intricate movements.

I like guns and shooting sports and I'm pretty skilled with all sorts of guns, but I still have to say I prefer swords.

I think I'd rather watch a movie with a heroic sword battle over a bloody shootout any day (Even though sword battles can end in quite a bloody manner as well ^^; )
