Are Fax Machines a waste?

Like the question says are Fax Machines a waste? I think so. To me they take up desk space and they're a just "toys" you know. I mean if it's use in a business that's fine, But I think it's a waste for personal use. I say this because most buddies of mine use fax machines just to flirt with their girlfriends. Sometimes they use them as what i call... well if you want to find out then ask me! To me if you want to communicate with someone just the phone or the internet. What are your thoughts?

I work in a business that needs the Fax machine. Many businesses and medical companies use them to send documents in a quick fashion. Documents that cannot be sent through email. If not for the fax, we would still be relying on good old snail mail in many industries of the world, and in that aspect, I do not think fax machines are a waste. I use them every day to get some of my work done in fact.

Now, that doesn't guarantee that people won't use them for "fun and wacky" reasons. Remember when copiers were great for copying ones rear end? XD

I understand what you mean. I agree that it works well in bussines what i meant (which i didn't state in my first post) if it's a waste at home. I should fix that huh?

my father sold three of his houses last year and bought two commercial properties out of state. During that time the fax machine was always in use, if a fax machine is a waste then so are most other electronic items, including the infamous celular phone, especially the cellular phone.

Oh, you don't have to fix anything. You were just stating an opinion.
My mother has a fax at her home that she uses on a daily basis to fax important legal documents down to my relatives in South Carolina. Without that fax, they would be at a loss.

So I suppose it all depends on why the person buys the fax to begin with. Having a legit reason to have one is fine, but to buy one just to say you have one is just.... silly in my opinion.

Not really, I think. Even if computer is more popular these days, there are still benefits to fax machines. For people who need to send documents over sea but cannot access to a computer will use the fax more often.

If you use a fax they arent, but if they just sit around ur house doing nothing they are.

I've never used a fax machine in my life, but they're definitely not useless. Useless to a teenage kid, perhaps.

which one would let the person know that there is a paper for them immediately as opposed to whenever they get a chance to check their email?

I was stating that faxing things is faster. Go ahead. Scan something to your computer and email it, and see how much faster it is to fax it.

where in the hell do you live? calls cost the same at all times as far as I know, atleast in the US and Canada...
