Cookie Monster

Haha. Intriging title isn`t it? HOpe this would be classified as Serious Discussion. OK well, I noticed that they are going to change Cookie Monster`s song from I LOVE COOKIES, to cookies are ok to eat sometimes. This is because of overweight children. For some reason, they think kids will say "since cookie monster loves cookies, I`m goingto eat more cookies!" ugh.. Personally I think things like that and "ronald Mcdonald`s exersise video for kids" is just anoying. I think it`s the parents fault that we have overweight children and little brats, you know? If people are so concerned, get on the snack companies, or the parents, not seasame Street!

McDonalds commericials are getting funnier by the month XD...But still, is the government making them do this, or are they doing it? People are getting so paranoid about obesity nowadays o_0.

Re: Cookie Monster

Yeah but Mcdonalds shouldn`t be the one saying it. People are soo freaking paranoid about how people should look. I mean if you wanna drink pure grease and eat lard every day of your life why should I care? I mean espesicially with children, it seems liek people are getting extra paranoid. It`s the parents fault! They should be monitoring what their kids eat, I mean my mom made srue we ate our veggies....

Re: Cookie Monster

You are right, it is mostly the parents fault. Watch what your damn kids are eating already. And personally I hate McDonalds, waaayyyy unhealthy. Anyway, I do believe people should beable to eat what they want. It's just annoying when they get incredibly obese from eating so much then complain about it like it isn't their fault. And with the cookie monster thing I don't think people think kids will eat to much cookies if they see it; just that they are just trying to send an initial message to the children.

Re: Cookie Monster

Eating Habits - Over-consumption of high-calorie foods. Some eating patterns that have been associated with this behavior are eating when not hungry, eating while watching TV or doing homework.
Obesity isnt always the parents fault. Older kids have the responsibilty and freedom to eat whatever they please. Sueing McDonalds isnt an appropriate action. I would start a nation wide boycott against all fast food compaines. P.S Subway isnt as "healthy" as you all might think it is.

Re: Cookie Monster

You all seem to be forgetting that children are very easily influenced at a young age. If a role model or recognisable figure tells them to do something, they may do it. Having Cookie Monster tell you not to eat so many cookies is going to be much more effective than having a parent do so, especially because children see parents as police as opposed to friends most of the time...especially at the age they're going to be watching Sesame Street.

As for McDonald's, they can do what they want. I don't watch TV and I know their food is and will likely remain crap, and that's what matters. I already know to drink water, and most people should too. People do not need a huge corporation telling them what to do...but sadly, a lot of people listen anyway. It's good publicity.

Re: Cookie Monster

now let's be politically correct about this.

America is full of fat kniving little brats who are unable to go outside and run a mile or lift up a set of weights during the commercial break. If we tell them to eat the may not become anerexic like they will in the future because they are as physically active as a sloth is during the first twenty two hours of the day. In full seriousness, if people where as active as their metabolism needed we would not be in this predicament.

Re: Cookie Monster

Now, as long as Cookie Monster doesn't start a low-carb diet, and have his dietician on the show as the special guest, I think we'll be okay. Kid's are more overweight nowadays, and we need to adress the situation. But, we do need the "I love cookies" song back...

Re: Cookie Monster

Guys. It's Cookie Monster. From Seasame Street. Do you think the grouchy one is giving our kids a bad role model? How many kids do you think go to live in a garbage can after watching that? (Oh, just noted capn's incisive comments belatedly, good stuff. )

None do, because a parent has to put his or her foot down and actually teach the kid right and wrong, and say, "no!" Grow a spine, I say.

Are children impressionable? Yes. So impress on them the importance of not being a fat, lazy slob.

Or, more seriously, impress on your children the virtue of moderation. And actually teach your own children! Televisions are not accepting parent substitutes, and neither is some sort of day-care so you can mindlessly pursue your career (even when economic need doesn't require it). There is no substitute for real parenting, and, nine out of ten times, it works (sorry, I don't have the actual stats on that one ).

If the parents are going to be appeasers, what can you expect? But, we all know from history that appeasement just creates Hitlers. And you don't want your children to be little-Hiltlers, now, do you?

As much as I light to have soft-core threads like this in the S.D. to keep things settled a bit, this really does NOT belong here. *moved to G.C.C.*

Oh, and I think they should just make cookie monster a lot fatter looking. And yes, I remember that song quiiiite well ;0)

Re: Cookie Monster

C is for cookie, that's good enough for me, C is for Cookie, that's good enough for me...

That song speaks to me.

The parents are the spoiling the kids. They have nothing else to do other than watch tv and eat. Haven't these parents heard of day care?

Plus, they are lucky they are a little chubby than skin and bone.

Re: Cookie Monster

Wow, that's really stupid that they're changing the song. There are so many other factors to obese children. I'm sure that children do not eat a buttload of cookies because cookie monster says so.

Because children are so easily influenced, Norwegian TV channels are not allowed to send commercials directed to kids.

About the cookie thing; why not? If you can change it to something better, why shouldn't you? Just because we like the song as it is, it will be more useful if the cookie is replaced with something more healthy.

I must've been smart then. Or just had strict parents who didn't let me watch little kid TV as a child. I feel so left out.
They shouldn't need to do this, since they're ruining what little I do remember of Sesame Street (Elmo is still the best!). I think that they think that the kids won't listen to their parents, but will listen to the big blue blob of fur on the TV.

Re: Cookie Monster

We were talking about that in school today. In Geography when talking about Organic Farming. I eat a lot, and don't excercise much (well I do it more often now, but didn't used to). Yet, I'm sking and bone! Though you could do what my house does, only buy certain things like that occasionally. I noticed in a lot of other people's houses that I've been to, there are cookie jars and Fizzy Drinks. Whenever we get that it's gone like that, it helps to get less of them when you have 5 other Brother's and Sisters who can be really greedy.

I have never even watched near an episode of Sesame street, and I blame both Parents and the TV shows. Parents allow this to continue, while the TV couldn't try and influence the really young children with more healthy foods. Parents should start feeding their children lot of Vegetables at a (very) young age. I did, and I love a lot of vegetables. Also, make them go outside, watch them though.
