We have a Pope

This isn't meant to be Serious Discussion, so I haven't posted it in there, if a mod feels it should be in that board, go ahead and move this

But as of now, a new Pope *German* has been elected- Pope Bendict XVI

I watched some of it on the TV, and the guy seems really nice. Personally, he looks like he could do something for the world. He kinda reminds me of John Paul II, just the way he's been smiling and waving to the crowd. Yeah every Pope has done that, but he just seems like another version of our late Pope.

I have a feeling he'll do well

Re: We have a Pope

Yup, just saw it on TV as well. Not much of a religious person myself, but I am interested in religion, so this should be interesting on how he copes with being the new Pope

I'm sure he'll be a good Pope and all but he does have some mighty big shoes to fill.

Re: We have a Pope

Yeah, great news. I heard that, in England, they were placing bets on how many days it would take and what country the new pope would be from. They bet on quite a few things in the UK =P (including the US presidential elections) Well, he looks like a nice guy. Good luck to the new pope and congrats to anyone in the UK that bet on 1 day.

Re: We have a Pope

Apparently he isnt such a nice guy, reffered as the "keeper of doctrine" in Jean-Paul's time he is ultra conservative and its is likely that we will see the church go back to the old strict ways. He is openly for the grand return of the confession and all of that....

That isnt from me its from my local tv news network (and no its not CNN) so dont shoot the messenger
but if its true its likely we will see many changes in the structure of the current catholic church, its going to be interesting. Also he is quite old (78 79?) I think and therefore will not be in place for a very long period of time (J-P came in when he was like in his fifties)

So I repeat myself again, its going to be interesting to see what this new mentality brings to the popularity and doctrine of the church

Re: We have a Pope

Yeah, I havn't been paying attention. I've been raking rocks out of my yard that got plowed there from the driveway over the winter.

ANYways....

Yeah, hopefully he'll do well. Chances are he will. I doubt all the cardinals or whoever elected him would screw up that bad.

Re: We have a Pope

The name of this thread should be changed to: "Habemus Papam!" Latin for: "We have a Pope"

Oath of the Knights templar. Who were the Knights' templar? In laymen's terms, some bad-a$$ warrior monks who protected pilgrims on their way to the Holy land.

Ultra-conservative? Great.

Well, at least he's old, hopefully he'll die quickly.

Well, sorry if i've offended anyone. I'm just repeating what my economics teacher told us today in class. (he's lived and taught in London for 12 years before moving here) I didnt want it to be taken as an insult.

Shee, some much for respecting the Catholics in the thread.

Re: We have a Pope

^ Don't even start with him, because all it turns into is hell. Just ignore his opinion as I do, even if I think it's rubbish

Take it from someone whose experienced it

We'll see how this 'conservative' Pope does, because honestly, I doubt he'll be as bad as implied, because then the Church will not only be hated even more *by other Christians even*, but then it may also lose a crap-load of members.

Gee, that's nice.

Anyways, though I don't want him to die, I don't expect him to last very long. His chose Benedict, though, the name kicks ass. The man got taste.

Re: We have a Pope

I looked at the cardinals there and me and my grandma decided on him....It turns out it is him.

I'm not thriled to be honest, I dont support many of his ideas and views on things. I think he has just been voted in as a short term pope to put a gap between John Paul II and the next Pope, at 78 and a good freind of John Paul II looked at the situation and thought, yeh it will be him.

I'm not to impressed with the choice, but still I was excited and smiled when we got told in school.

Re: We have a Pope

I haven't seen much of him yet, but some pictures. I don't know wether he will be good, but I hope he can do something good for the world.

He'll probably conservative as I'm told he was a close friend of the Pope John Paul II, who also was quite conservative. I don't mind some conservatism within the Catholic Church, but I hope that he is able to modernise the Church at the same time.

Re: We have a Pope

The Cardinal has done some very good things for the community in his life. He was Dean of the Cardinal facility, I think. Anyway I am german and I think it is cool that this guy is the pope. Could have picked a better name than Pope Benedict XVI, though. Oh well it his choice.
