Technical Question
Hey,
I was searching this on the internet and couldn't find anything and thought maybe one of you guys knew. Ok, I have this wireless router see, and I have it hooked up to two different computers in the same room. But I want another computer to be hooked up to the internet across the house. I don't want a cord going all the way across the house so I looked into a cordless thingy that can connnect them but it's $100 dollars... so I was wondering if there's a cheaper way to do this with my router. I don't even really know how the wireless router works so any insight would help. -Albert

Re: Technical Question
Sorry to tell you but even the most standard of them are around the $80-$100 range. I have three computers in my house, one has the main DSL modem the other two have wireless adapters. If you need any help on setting a wireless network up or how they work just ask. I'm sorry to say though that your best bet is to just fork out the $100. That is going to be your only solution if you don't want to run a Ethernet cord across your house.

Re: Technical Question
You might have something different that what I have, I have a little modem with an antenna, about the size of a small wallet( the modem is) and the wireless adapter connects to the computer via a USB cord, it sends a signal and receives signals from the main modem that is in a different part of the house. So technically it transmits signals through antennas (wirelessly) rather than running an abnormally larger phone cord(known as a Ethernet cord) across your house to connect you computer with that wire to the main modem that is hooked up to the other computer. I'm pretty sure the wirless router your talking about is similar or the same to the wireless network adapter that I have. I hope that clerifies things for you.

Re: Technical Question
wait, so would I be able to buy a second modem and have it recieve a signal from the other modem without a cord between them? 'cause that would be somewhat cheaper

Re: Technical Question
Yes, that's what I have. You buy something called a wireless network adapter(but it really is a very small DSL modem) that you connect to your computer via a USB cord, that modem or adapter sends and receives signals to your main modem that is hooked up to the other computer. So yes, no cords, all you need is a small USB cord that comes with the adapter and just hooked it up to the computer, it will search for a network(which is just your main modem on the other computer) and then your all set. Just set the adapter somewhere on your computer desk and make sure the antenna is upright and you'll have no problem.
