Does anyone own an Ocarina?

I was looking at my Nintendo Power magazines and I have seen a lot of adds for Ocarinas. I went to www.songbirdocarina.com and I saw them and heard songs played on them. It sounds and looks just like the Ocarina in the Zelda games. I am thinking about buying the Ocarina of Time.

Does anyone here own an Ocarina? I would like to know more about it.

Re: Does anyone own an Ocarina?

Nyah, I've got an ocarina. Even though...it's not like the Ocarina of Time.. x.x It's a pendant, not a sweet potato.. ^_^; But..it's blue and has a triforce on it. Um...as for you, go ahead and get one if you really want it. I've been thinking of getting one too, but...I don't really agree with the price, heh..

I have one but it's not as big as the real Ocarina of Time. I can still play the Zelda songs on it though.

Well I got a book with all the songs in it and it has the fingerings written down which is kind of cheating.

ocarina

I own a pure silver sweet potato. Beautiful sound, though it took me two years to properly learn how to play.

Arguable. As with all instruments a lot of work is needed to get very good but as with an instrument such as the recorder it is easy to play simple songs.

Re: Does anyone own an Ocarina?

I have an ocarina, I'm just not sure where it is. I know it's boxed up somewhere, becuase we just moved. It looks nothing like the Ocarina of Time; it's brown, round shaped, and has tribal-like markings on it, and made of clay. If I find it, I'll see if I can play some songs on it. I'd love to reproduce the Minuet of Forest...

Someday, I'd like to own one of those replicas of the Ocarina of Time from SongbirdOcarinas.com. They're rather expensive, though. >_>

Re: Does anyone own an Ocarina?

I have never thought of anyone having an ocarina before... and what do you mean when you say "sweet potato" is that a brand, or is it the kind of shape. I might want to look into buying one, how much do they cost?

Re: Does anyone own an Ocarina?

I used to have a small Songbird Ocarina. I fell and it broke though, which sux. I'm looking at the split pieces right now. How sad...

It's hard to learn how to play, cause you got to get the breathing thing right, and it took me forever to learn how to hold it right..

I really want to buy the Ocarina of Time or the Fairy Ocarina.

Anyone know which one plays better or are they the same?

I have heard they are a real challenge to play. I went through a phase of wanting to play the ocarina, but i could never find one. Sigh

Re: Does anyone own an Ocarina?

they both play pretty much the same the only different thing is the color.
And it is one of the most simple instruments to play of all time.
all you need are the notes to the song to play.
I can play most of the songs featured in OoT, and I can play the opening to Linkin Parks 'In The End'.
I feel so special.

I don't own an Ocarina, I would like to own one but an Eagle bone flute is the first thing I'm going for.

Re: Does anyone own an Ocarina?

I had a friend who had something that, when I think about it, looks strangely familiar to the "Ocarina of Time". It was in a glass case in his hallway.
It may have been his parents' or something...

Hey, I have an idea! Let's bug Kellog's to make a mini ocarina (like one of those prizes in the cereal boxes) in honor of the new Legend of Zelda game.
That is, if Nintendo would agree to that. Which they probably wouldn't.

But hey, it would be cool!

That is the best idea EVER. They might go for it..?..They'd make money and it would be great advertising!! Now how do we get the idea to the people at Nintendo??

Re: Does anyone own an Ocarina?

I have the Extended Range Ocarina of Time (from Songbirds), but it fell and broke after I dished out $60 for it, wah! I repaired it, but yeah, now it's kind of lopsided. Oh well. It still works. It's easy to play, but hard to memorize the notes. And it sounds more ... earthy than the one Link plays in the game. I have a strong suspicion that his is metal...otherwise it would break if he did his rolls or backflips or anything. Not to mention when Zelda threw it in the river. I want to get a metal one, but they're probably too expensive and I can't find them anywhere. *sigh*
