Warning: MSN hacking virus loose

Do not accept a msn plugin called "MsnFunMaker202.exe" form anyone.

A 'friend' tricked me into accepting it, by saying it was a cool plugin for msn. Unfortunately it allows the sender to hack into your msn and spy on your convos, plus other things such as restarting your PC.

It also contains a few viruses.

Now my PC is really, really messed up. time for a format, methinks.

but unfortunately, my PC came with windows built into it, so i may as well install Longhorn instead of XP

They have a beta installation CD? Oh. That sounds cool.

Well, I don't have MSN so it's all good. ^_^

What a kind, loving, "friend."

EDIT: Do you actually know this person in real life? Or just friend as in, some random person with a screenname?

Whoever it was, it's more likely the IM worm sent that message, not the user. This stuff would NEVER get around if it wasn't programmed to propagate itself.

Very, very true. I forgot all about how these pieces of slime get around.

Re: Warning: MSN hacking virus loose

Speaking of MSN Viruses, I was using the program the other night when a file was sent to me saying "Crazy frog gets killed by train!" it looked dodgy so I cancelled the transfer, instead it downloaded it onto my computer and proceeded to send the file to all of my online contacts. Only a few of them got the virus in the end, but still.

Now whenever I start up my computer, it has a notepad file talking about some Larissa and how she's a "stupid n00b". Then whenever I try to open a virus program, it closes it straight away, as well as numerous webpages, usually containing the keywords "virus" and similar things. So I can't get rid of it, and every time I start up MSN it keeps sending the viruses out.

I have found a way to temporarily get rid of the virus - open Warcraft III and let it run for about 10 minutes, and then everything is ok, weirdly enough.

Anyone know how to get rid of it?

Sounds like this but I don't think it will be the same one.

And thanks for the info. I don't download files from MSN messenger at all.

I had exactly the same virus you've got. It is very tricky to get rid of. This is a link to the program i used to get rid of it. Oh and don't go on MSN until the virus is gone from your computer, it sends the virus to other people

http://securityresponse.symantec.com...oval.tool.html

Follow the instructions on how to remove the virus (print out the page). If the program don't run, start your computer in safe mode (i pressed F5 at start up on my pc) and run the program then. It should delete all traces of the virus.
Good luck

We had a conversation of a blut 20 lines talking about it before he sent me it, so i think it was the user.

The thing he sent me allows him (and only him) to hack into my msn messenger program.

Also, a lot of my close friends have the virus that is spread by it sending itself to people.
