Anyone talented?

By talents, I mean things more than hobbies. You are not a talented musician if you play an instrument for school just because you had to. Talents are things that make you who you are, things you are above all, great, wonderful at doing.
Prepare for long, rambling statement:

I am an artist. I truly wish I could post art work. But that would involve scaning, which would involve using my dad's scanner, which would involve enduring critizim and humiliation because I draw in an anime-like style, and doing so is the equivilant of being satanic in my family. But maybe someday I will.
Some of my friends call me a "prodogy". I wouldn't go that far. But I am known as "Artist Girl" at school by those who can't seem to remember the name Rachel but can remember I once had a nice doodle in my notebook they once saw. I used to get kids to ask me to be in their group if it involved art, and kids still do recommend me in clases as a partner if the project involves art. People I don't know say to me: "Hey, you're that kid who can draw!". My life is art, really. I can't go a day without inventing a new character, building on an old one, or the like. I also am considered funny, so I draw very popular cartoons that are more famous than I. Of course, all this also makes me competative against my will. If I see another piece of art, I immedatly think of all the bad parts that I could do better. I am convinced that I can do anything. I also am convinced everything I do is terrible. It's the attitude like that that keeps me going. I'm always striving to do better, while keeping my confindance up. I am programed to be an artist that way. I'm also creative, very much so. I like to write, but I think primarily in images, and I end up drawing my story instead of writing it. I'm also not good at thinking things through. I can't do creative processes. I just let my mind wander and come up with things on its own, no guide lines. I hope one day to write a novel, but it's obvious I'd have a hard time. I also seem to attract terrible art teachers. So I taught myself to draw by observation, not art lessons. I was hired by my neighbors to teach their children, and I found out its hard to teach something if you were never taught. Especially if the children are not artistically inclined. Art teachers love me, though. I received a "Best artist" award in Middle school in 8th grade. I got money for art camps and received a name plate. Sometimes art is all that keeps me going, other times it's a bother because of the pressure and the obsessive need to draw constantly. Oh, I love drawing so.

I'm rambling. But the point I want to make is that I'm an artist. Anyone else like me? Obsessive-- I mean, talented? ^^ Not just art. Music, writing, inventing, math, science, gardening, swiming... anything.

Re: Anyone talented?

I dont have any obsessive talents, what am I talented at? hmmm....sports? athletics, always been involved with clubs and school teams and at a higer level in some areas, I suppose I am slightly obsessive with sports, I have a load of trophies and awards for sports, mostly in the area of athletics.
So I suppose sports is my best talent.

Re: Anyone talented?

I would go along the lines of skateboarder and artist.

I love to draw, type (fiction), and make graphics. Most people I have presented my works to have thought they were amazing and I guess I should hold that as credit towards myself. I try to stay modest, but sometimes I will get Narcisistic (I know I spelled that wrong, don't tell me) and think I did really awesome.

As far as drawing, I show my friends and other bystanders who walk up to me. They love it. I tend to make up my own stuff and try to veer off from copying stuff. I started drawing about three years ago during the summer. I saw a how-to-draw book for anime, and I was hooked. That summer, I got it and I have been an avid drawer since.

For graphics, I started last summer because I was bitterly envious of what some people could do that I saw on another forum. So, instead of pouting, I got Ulead and began from there. I can't say I am very good yet, but I think I am alright. I learn new concepts every day and try to be creative.

As far as typing/writing things, this is where I get to pat myself on the back. I think I am quite good and so do my editors. I started in 6th frade when I saw what people could do on a forum, again. And again, I got envious and began myself. I am in 8th grade now, so I have been doing it for almost three years straight.

With skateboarding, I started in 5th grade and I would skate during the fall, summer and spring. I was actually pretty good and could do a multitude of tricks. Mostly flip tricks, grinds and lips. But, unfortunately, I have gotten a bit rusy because my board got caugh in the rain one too many times and when I was doing a normal kickflip- BLAM!! It cracked in half. I am still waiting for a new board right now. . .

Also, many people think that I am a pretty good comedian/comic relief kinda guy. So, I will hold myself to it. I will talk to my friends on AIM or on the phone and random comments that I can make will make them laugh very hard. I don't really think I am good at it, persay, it's just who I am.

And yeah, that's really all I can think of right now. . .

Re: Anyone talented?

well I'm not really all that talented but probably I'd say the best thing I can do is write. some of my recent works are poor but I've hit gold once or twice. I've gone through about 5 one hundred page notebooks (college rule) this semester (that's since September)

Re: Anyone talented?

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you are miniblin.... I mean, as far as "art girl" goes...
Whenever anyone in school would talk about anything art related, the finger always pointed to me. I really do love art (but my wrist kills me lately, which prevents me from working on anything elaborate anymore. -__-) but back in about 10th grade, I won first place in the county PTA art show, with a portrait of myself. ^^ I love to draw the human face, expecially the eyes. The eyes show so much emotion, and so much into what is in the inner soul. You can tell alot about just a glance someone is making, and it is that reason that I love to draw portraits.....

THANK YOU FOR SAYING THAT. It is the artist mentality to bash his/her own work in order to strive for the best. It's the "You are your own worst critic" thing going on. No matter how much someone says my artwork is great, I can honestly point out at least 10 things wrong with it. Sometimes, I am so compulsive with trying to get a peice just right, that I end up completely ruining it, and I abandon what could have been a so called masterpiece.

I know many people in my life who I've talked to who thought I would make a great comic book artist... but I lack the writing skills. I admire those who can be creative with words, as well as being visually talented as well.
I love to work with colored pastels, and charcoal. I don't know why, but it seems so much grittier, so much more.... personal if you will.

Back in high school, I've been treatened "If you don't go to college with that talent of yours, I'm going to kill you!!!" It'll be interesting going to my 5 year high school reunion comming up telling everyone that I never did. (Money reasons.... ><)

But anyway, I completely understand where you are comming from. I also can sing, and won an award for that back in school.... but that's not my passion. I see you share in the same passion that I do, and in that, I love ^^.

I could go on and on, but I don't want to take up too much space here.

Yesh, fellow artist girl, you have company. ^^

Re: Anyone talented?

Skateboarding...I started last summer and been skating for 6 months now. I am good compared to most people in my school...which is sad because about 5 people skateboard in my school that are good at it. I built a whole bunch of ramps because the nearest park around here is an hour away. Now they're set up in my cousins basement. But there is going to be a temp park here soon which is awsome...I'd like to have one year round though. Can't think of much else to write...

Re: Anyone talented?

All the "sk8erz" in my school are so dumb. They walk into school with their skateboards and the girls crowd around them. They can barely ollie and everyone thinks they're so good. And when a real skater comes in they think he's a nobody. It's so dumb. Ugh. . .

Re: Anyone talented?

I'd say that I'm a talented writer. Everyone in English usually hates me because I rarely have the dreaded 'red marks' on my essays, critical reviews, papers and the like. I just have a knack for writing, I guess. It's not a passion, though, not at all. All my friends tell me I should write a novel, but I'm not creative enough to accomplish something like that. Not in my opinion, anyways. My uncle told me his really unique idea for a book, and I'd love to write it, but it would feel like plagiarism, even if I asked. So yeah.

All my freinds tell me I'm a very talented artist, but I think that's pushing it. Friends never criticise another friends artwork, it seems. Only praise. I'm amateur, at best. But, not everyone can draw decently, so I suppose it's a talent.

There's probably more, but this will do for now.

Re: Anyone talented?

My talent is skateboarding... I guess. I can do alot of tricks. I've been skating for about a year... It's been off an on. I stopped skating for the Summer, because I became really lazy and slept till 4 in the afternoon. I mostly do fliptricks such as kickflips and heelflips and 360 flips and so on. I can do stairs pretty well the biggest stair set I've done was a 8 stair. I'm good at ledges, I've done a ledge that was about 6 feet high. I almost did a ledge that was 9 feet high, but I didn't land right and I hurt my ankle. Yeah, I guess I'm good. I remember I could ollie the first day I ever got on a board. So I guess I'm talented. o.O

Yeah you are. I'm not very good at "downwards" stuff. I tend to stick to flatland and kickers and rails, but maybe I am just a wuss.

Re: Anyone talented?

Talent? I doubt it. I've got a lot of work before that becomes any sort of talent.

Hmmm. No real talents I can think of, other than the powers of annoyance and randomness.

Re: Anyone talented?

I am an ok writer I guess... I mean the people that actually get a chance to read my works [as I decide that I hate them and kill them] enjoy my writing style and congradulate me on it. I am also a fairly good guitarist for the band Phydeaux that none of you have heard of unless you are Balthazar or I already mentioned it in a post or something. So yeah I guess I am a good writer, but I have a tendancy to not let anyone read my works.
