Any musicians here?

This is like, my fourth attempt at a thread. I've searched, and I didnt see any forums more appropriate than this, and I didnt see any threads like this. I seem to have a habit of creating threads that already exist...

Anyway, anyone consider themselves a musician?
If so, what do you play? What are your accomplisments?

Me, I play cello and I've just started teaching myself guitar, and I can sing, to an extent.

My accomplishments as a guitarist are nil. As a cellist, however, I'm one of the best in the state (non saying much, however). Also, later this month, Ill be in a Jump Little Children-esque band.

Re: Any musicians here?

Heh, we acctually have a thread like this every couple of months. Its ok though, I dont get tired of it.

Anyways, I play guitar. I have been for almost 10 years now, although the first few years dont really count since I never practiced. I've had some basic lessons here and there when I was little, but for the most part I'm self taught.

I mostly play Heavy Metal, with the occasional Classic Rock riffs for fun. I was in a garage band for a few years with my Neighborhood friends, and I have played on stage a couple of times for my old church.(It was a Christmas Musical, If I recall.)

Here is my crap:

primarily for Rythym and Power Chords. The other one is my ESP EX-50, my newest guitar. I use this one for melodic stuff and soloing.

I use digitech pedals for all my effects. I have Metal Distortion, Multi Voice, and Digital Delay. Also, my Crate GLX15 amplifier. Its a pretty good amp with some fun built in effects.

Re: Any musicians here?

I play guitar mainly, but I dabble in electronics and a couple of other instruments.
I've played in lots of bands. My first one went on to release an EP and we toured for a little bit before breaking up. It was a pretty basic rock band. I played lead guitar.
The next band I joined pretty much straight after was a band that had been releasing records for years. I played bass in that band. I was never to into bass, and when the prospect of moving to third guitar for that band came up, I took it and another guy took the bass spot. Eventually I decided to leave that band because the frontman was pretty strict on his creative control in the studio.
At the moment I play with a couple of friends in an experimental band. I move from guitar to bass to electronics, but basically we just jam together and play whatever tickles our fancy. The result is a pretty odd combination.
I'm also in the middle of recording my first solo album, something which I'll focus all my time on. Most of the songs are written and recorded, and all is needed now is to go into the studio and record the drums, and then finish off some of the electronics. I'll also try and re-record some of the vocals and the rawer stuff.

My gear is simple - just a fender telecaster through a fender amp (a 212r). Mostly cheap gear, I don't have any pedals because I prefer to manipulate the sounds indirectly. I sold my bass ages ago, but it was a fender J-bass.

Re: Any musicians here?

my dad signed me up for band in 7rg grade so i know how to play trumpet decently though I wouldn't call myself great. all I have to say is that half the people in that class were WAY GOOFY, over the top stupidity and I mean worse than myself, because I am notorious for being a class clown.

I have also messed around on bass a little, though by no means proficient, I am able to play iron man and smoke on the water, both of which are excessively easy.

I play piano, and I play it pretty damn well. Accomplishments? Well, in our school musical, when the piano player for the band couldnt come, they made me replace her, as I knew all the songs. God damn I suck

Re: Any musicians here?

I been playin bass for 5 or 6 years or somethin like that. Im good at it, I freakin play all the time. I been in a few bands, mostly because I like playing shows. My first band was an indy band, which was fun til we got too lazy to play anymore. Then I joined a punk band, sheerly so I could get on stage I swear. Might join a ska band at college, ska bass pwns. I play on a epiphone eb-3, makes the sweet sweet noise. I also have a dean acoustic which is a rockin piece. I mostly play tool when im by myself, or streetlight manifesto to prep in case i join that ska band. I've played guitar every once in a while for the past few years, I'm no expert but I can go for a bit. I'm getting an electric sitar as soon as I get money for it, that's gonna be sweet. Besides the strings, I play clarinet (a long story) and an ocarina so i can hear zelda's lullaby any freakin time i want.

Re: Any musicians here?

Guitar... I've been playing it for 3 years
Since I can't afford (well really not) and I don't have the time to buy an electric guitar, I just use my old acoustic... And basically I suck. I could play bass too.
I also want to play piano, but I'm still trying to get one. I plan to teach myself
Tutors suck.

Re: Any musicians here?

I play the guitar, and have been for around 8 months. The first 6 or so months probably shouldn't count, because I seriously did not practice at all. I goofed off with power chords and that was it.

Anyway, I have a Fender MIM Strat, black. The next guitar I'l get probably will be a Voodoo Les Paul or something.

I have a Roland Cube 30 amp, which I like a lot and has nice tones; it's also very low on noise. I have a pedalboard, with a Boss Metal Zone, DS1, Super Chorus, and GE-7 Equalizer. I play mostly heavy metal, but I'm getting into (strangely) grindcore and folk. For some odd reason, I want to buy some bongos too. oO

I hope to get some recording equipment in the future (when or if I get good) and start my own little industrial/progressive/death metal project. But nya, I suck right now so whatever.

I'll say my only good skill is that I'm rather fast. I still don't know many licks though, so my solos sound very unmelodic. I'm sure when I learn more scales it'll get better.

Re: Any musicians here?

I have played the piano or keyboard....whatever since I was 12, I have 2 keyboards at home and I use them quite alot. There was a point I was never off it, I take music at school as a GCSE and I have learned how to play it well, its easy now.
I muck about with other stuff, but I cant say I can play any other instrument apart from the keyboard.

Re: Any musicians here?

Well I will just go all out and say that I play the clarinet for 5 years(also In marching band). I listened to some Zelda music and was able to figure out some tunes from it like the WW-it actually sounds pretty good.Yes I know that sounds nerdy and stuff..but I also used to play piano/keyboard. My favorite type to play on the piano is rag/jazz,example-Scott Joplin.
Butt then I quit even though I was pretty good because my teacher would not let me practice the type of music I liked. So now I just play for fun, its more enjoyable that way, I think.

Re: Any musicians here?

I play the saxophone and the clarinet, as well as messing around with flute, oboe and trumpet.

I also have been teaching music at an elementary school since september, though I finish at the end of this month.

I hope to become a professional musician after university, but I need to actually practice a hell of a lot more just to be admitted into university for music.

Re: Any musicians here?

i play guitar and i can sing really well. i've played guitar for about 15 years, but i'm not really good, but singing, yeah i am good. i consider myself a musician because i have a finely tuned ear, a knack for rhythm, i love many many types of music, and i sing and play an instrument. for about a year, i played guitar and sang in my church praise team. i played guitar in my 11th grade school talent show with my friends. we did a supertones song. i had a solo in it, too. i was soooo nervous but i nailed it! and in 12th grade i was in the Madrigals, which was our advanced a capella choir. and all my life i've had various solos in chor concerts and such, so yeah, i'm not a star or nuthin, but i have had a few good successes. i am a karaoke queen!!!!!! hehehehe!

Re: Any musicians here?

I play flute, which is the greatest instrument of them all. I do not conisder myself a musician in any way what-so-ever. But flute is fun, and I also like to mess around with my sis's keyboard. But... I have no accomplishments, no great huge talent, I just play a flute. So, yeah.

Re: Any musicians here?

Been playing the guitar for 11 years now. Started when I was 13. I used to play a lot of stuff like Queensryche and Def Leppard. Now I play stuff like Queensryche, Sevendust and pretty much anything else that rocks.

Just recently started working on singing and playing at the same time. It's tough for me to do, and it's too difficult to decide whether I want to do one or the other.

Ultimately I'm going to learn to play classical guitar, and from there will get myself a nice classical acoustic to play in the forest I'll grow. I'll never make it as a big rock star because it clashes with my views of family relationships, but I"ll definetely play for the people that would listen in my forest.
