Re: Big Problem.

Spybot: Search and Destroy is a good program. I use both it and Ad-Aware, because one program will miss things that the other will get, and vice versa.

Re: Big Problem.

Reformat your whole computer = the best and cleanest way, leaving no more traces of any viruses whatsoever. Seriously. I mean, if you have trouble deleting them, then just reformat your hard drive(s).

Re: Big Problem.

I'm with l-o-s. I have Spybot and Ad-Aware on my computer, and it is fine. I know that it wouldn't be without them, because it has been ruined when I didn't have Spybot and such.

Re: Big Problem.

Spybot and AdAware won't remove viruses that are on your system. If you need a good, free virus scanner look up AVG. They've got a good free one. I'm gonna go with Stormcat on this one though. If you've got more than 5 viruses running around you'd be better of formatting it and starting over from scratch. It will take you more time to fight the viruses then it will to backup, format and restore all your stuff.

The same can be said for some forms of spyware. If you can't get it all off with Spybot and AdAware (used in conjunction with one another), then you're going to be better off dumping it all.

Re: Big Problem.

Spybot and AdAware is a good combo, thats what I use....but I find that they are only for use with most kinds of adware and spyware, for viruses I use Norton, takes friggin ages to scan, but it always finds my virus.

Re: Big Problem.

If using AVG, Spybot, and Ad-Aware doesn't solve your problem, then download HijackThis: http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

Extract the zip file to a permanent folder other than your desktop and run HijackThis.exe. Run a Scan and save the log once it completes. Post the contents of the log here for examination.

Re: Big Problem.

I suggest downloding

Mozilla Fire Fox- http://www.mozilla.org/products/
It'll give you a nice new browser and a fire wall for free.

Spybot Search and Destroy- http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
Good product, found something like 27 on my first run, now I have practically nothing. The first few times you run it it'll seem like it takes a while but then you get used to it and it doesn't seem that long.

Antivir Personal Edition Version 6.0- http://www.free-av.com/
Beautful program found so many viruses on my first run through, right now I have no viruses. Every time a virus appears you'll get a pop-up asking what you want to do with the file it's infected. It also makes your CPU make a nice jingeling noise to notify you that it found a virus.

Re: Big Problem.

Hard-drive reformat is my best suggestion. I try to get that done once a year, just to clean all the junk out. Just make sure you have all your stuff backed up.

Also, it's not a wise idea to put a price on your computer's security. (as in $0) For $50, you can get Norton Internet Security with a year of free updates, and that will take care of vitually everything you need when it comes to security, viruses, ad/spyware, firewall, ect. It's worth buying.

The free stuff others here mentioned is pretty good, if you're insistant on taking the cheap way out. Firefox though is a must-have.

Re: Big Problem.

Because <3 FireFox <3 is better No really, I don't know, because I haven't tried Opera, but I know that FireFox is a million times better than IE will ever be, and fulfills all my needs, and I haven't had any spyware slip through it.

It could also be the fact that FireFox just sounds cooler than Opera..
