Extroverted or Introverted? A shade of grey?

Two contrasting statements.
It's well-known that people are either extroverted or introverted. You're either out-going or you keep yourself to yourself. However, it is possible there can be shades of grey inbetween the two. What do you think you are and are you a shade of grey? Do you think it's possibl to be a shade of grey?
Me? I could be considered both, a shade of grey (which is why I mention the shades of grey thing). I am introverted most of the time. I'm quiet, shy, nervous around people (to do with particular reasons with bullying etc), unassuming. I don't like to talk within a large group. I keep myself to myself amongst a large group of people. I don't particularly live a life of excess. I stay in every night, never really going out, I don't party or drink (I can do without it personally). I don't particularly socialise.
However, I could be considered an extrovert to an extent. With friends, and people who are close to me I'm quite loud, friendly, talkative, still not a drinker or a hard party-er but I can party a little, perhaps a lot >_> I find this confusing, yet fascinating at the same time. That I can be the flipsdide of what is seemingly my personality at the drop of a hat. Though I could relate it to being a teenager >_>

Re: Extroverted or Introverted? A shade of grey?

I keep to myself when I feel like it and at other times I run around with my underwear on my head rather than where it should be. It all depends who I'm talking to, if it's some stranger I say what I have to, get what I have to do done and if I like the person I become more open to them.

Re: Extroverted or Introverted? A shade of grey?

I think perhaps you have the wrong definition of extro/introverted...

Extroverted basically means that you get energized in social situations, you may not talk to anyone, but just being around others gets you up and going.

Introverted is not shy, but it may seem like it is because they like to spend time in reflection.

Extroverted is not social and introverted is not shy, Its simply a matter of where you get your energy from.

I'm extroverted not because I talk alot, but because I thrive on social situations, Sure I might have a little anxiety when going to a mall filled with people, but I'm still up and going, I meet my friends and im wild. I may not want to talk to the cash register, but after I'm done receiving my change, I'm re-energized because of that social contact... yeaa

Re: Extroverted or Introverted? A shade of grey?

Im pretty much an introvert... except for a few situations (usually baseball related...^.^;;. I dont like people getting close to me unless ive known them for a while. Im pretty paranoid too, that might have something to do with it. Im very quiet when im with ppl i dont know. I can get loud with my friends though... especially if ive had sugar... or if its a red sox game...

Re: Extroverted or Introverted? A shade of grey?

I used to be rather introverted, though I was loud enough around my closer friends or when there were just a few people. Then last year I met the most outgoing kid I have ever met, and since we became pretty good friends, I began to become more and more outgoing the more time I spent around him. So now I'm really more of an extrovert, though I'm more of this "grey area" you're talking about than anything.

Re: Extroverted or Introverted? A shade of grey?

The definition of extroverts being party people and introverts being emo nerds is totally wrong. An extroverted person finds stability from being around others. An introverted person relies on introspection to find stability.

I am 100% extroverted, no matter how nerdly and inappropriate I act in public. I am not happy without the security provided by others.

Re: Extroverted or Introverted? A shade of grey?

I'm Extroverted, no doubts about it.

I'll talk to anyone, anywhere, unless they're holding a gun or something.
I do well at parties.

Also, I agree with vacumgod on how the definitions should be well, defined.

Going with vg's definition, I'm still extroverted. The more people around me, the better.

Re: Extroverted or Introverted? A shade of grey?

Same as Epyon and Jordan L. I feel nervous about what to talk to people being introduced to me or to people I don't know, but I'm quite wacky in my group of friends.
It's so weird.

Re: Extroverted or Introverted? A shade of grey?

Going on both defininitions, I am most definetley an extrovert. I love being with people, and I do get alot of comfort and stability from being with my friends. Also, I love meeting new people, unless their really up themselves or something.

Re: Extroverted or Introverted? A shade of grey?

i would say im in the grey area...for both definitions. i like keeping to myself but when im around people i go crazy and become very outgoing, but i also like to be independent and thrive on my own self. theres just some things i keep to myself and other things im very open about

Re: Extroverted or Introverted? A shade of grey?

I would have to say that unlike Kedsy, I'm 100% introverted. I would prefer to be alone with my thoughts most of the time, and find solice in having "alone" time. I actuallly get pretty pissy if I'm actually around alot of people for a long amout of time. Why pissy? It's because I grow more and more uncomfortable with people.

I'd probably pinpoint it to the fact that I was very extremely insecure when I was younger, and I would just like to hide from everyone, including family, so I couldn't be judged.

I think it's just stuck in me right now. I think most people who know me from the chat would be extremely surprised to find out how little I talk in real life. It's because the internet gives a sense of anonimisity that brings out my true feelings. If I'm around people, I am extremely paranoid of them hurting me or judging me.

So I suppose that makes me introverted to a certain extent. *shrugs*\

EDIT: That all being said, thats why any friends I've had in the past are really outgoing... because they kept conversation flowing, and made me speak up once in awhile. If I come across another person with the same personality as me, the conversation is pretty much dead.....

I want to be an extrovert, but I've been an introvert for so long I just can't change. I need a hug (and maybe a girlfriend)

Re: Extroverted or Introverted? A shade of grey?

Anyone who knows me would say that I'm extroverted, however, I am introverted. I have a subconscious problem of feeling like I should act extroverted, which often makes me act asinine.
