Chick-Fil-A Controversy

I am surprised we have not created a thread about this.

People, keep this CIVIL. Remember to respect each other's opinions.

While it is okay to disagree with someone's opinion, do NOT attack the individual.

THIS IS YOUR WARNING

If I see anybody making any offensive remarks, they will be infracted.

There.

Also, there IS a thread in SD about this, but let's keep this thread open for people to share their reactions to everything as opposed to discussing morals and politics, etc.

Now that I've made sure to warn you all, happy posting!

Taken from the GCC Thread in terrible order because I'm a lousy mod!:

This analogy doesn't even make sense. For it to make sense the company would have to be funding some sort of pro-drunk driving organization. Or something like that.

That and fast food = puke.gif. Plus it just...seems pretty stupid to me. Their side of it and the people screaming about it.

And I like their food.

And bash me all you want, it will only make yourself look bad.

So be it.

If just so happens that the owner of Chik-fil-a put his position right out there. I'm not defending him though. I'm just speaking on behalf of people who happen to like chicken, fries and lemonade and want to get it without a bunch of hooplah.

Personally, I won't be going there until this craziness subsides. But the point is that you don't always know what organizations and ideas a business owner supports with the money you hand them.

It's pretty clear when someone cares less about equality for all men than he does about a chicken sandwich.

I say we stop talking about this topic in the GCC thread, before it gets ugly in here.

If you want to continue to talk about it, start a new thread about it in the Serious Discusion part of the forums.
But DON'T include any of my posts related to the topic, in it! Or else!

Okay, let me rephrase- When I say

Quote:
I miss the days when one could simply go get chicken nuggets, waffle fries and lemonade without having to enter a battle ground of societal issues.
What I mean is that it's a sad, sad, sad fact that something as simple as our choice of lunch is now determined by something as serious as our stance on serious issues in society.

On a separate note...

Even though I recognize that people can choose not to eat there to show their disapproval, the very next place you go may be owned by people who feel the same way. So sure, you have the choice not to go there, but what about the next place? What if the owners financially support something you don't? And not necessarily this issue, but any political, religious or social idea that you don't agree with? It's true that the owner of this business put this knowledge out there and that people may rightfully feel an obligation to act on it, but that almost implies to me that you would need to be aware of what every business owner believe before putting money in their pockets.

The first part is really my main point, that lunch and politics should be separate. The whole issue really just seems like a silly, money and publicity generating political stunt. Regardless of what position you take on the issue at hand, I think everyone involved would be better off if they saw it that way. It's not about gay rights, it's about money. That's what businessmen are after- money. In most cases, they don't do anything unless there is no money to be made in doing it.

But that's just my take.

Edit- I would actually bet you that if their sales had taken a nosedive after the owner of Chick-fil-a stated his position, then eventually he would have had a miraculous change of heart. I just think that everyone currently involved in this chick-fil-a business is getting played.

Now that I've seen this...

Sure.

Re: Chick-Fil-A Controversy

I don't like Chick-fil-A. As well, I don't like how Truett Cathy spoke against gays. I am not exactly pro or anti gay. I believe you can do whatever you want. Or as Jimmy McMillan says: "if you want to marry a shoe, I'll marry you."

Shunning someone for being oneself is cruel.

Re: Chick-Fil-A Controversy

Was this really a surprise? A chicken chain that goes so far to pride itself on not opening on Sunday, and people act like it was a conspiracy that the head honchos don't support gay marriage?

I don't understand how someone would think the logical conclusion to solve the problem would be to punish them financially by not allowing a restaurant to be built in certain cities. I can't possibly fathom in what situation that wouldn't be discrimination.

Re: Chick-Fil-A Controversy

Alrighty alrighty.

Sorry for the confusion, but I ask that we please move the discussion to the already established SD thread.

Thank you guys, and I'm terribly sorry for my mistake!

I don't like your religious positions, so you're not getting this zoning permit.
