Swag

Now that I have your attention my lovely ZU, it is time for me to talk about something.

For a little while now (make that about 16 hours or so), I've been curious about something: What is it that people have against swag? Now personally, I am a grown ass man, and as a grown ass man, I have class and maturity. Unless I'm out in the streets or in a informal club or bar where I need (attempt) to have some sort of "swag" (fitted/snap back hat, jeans with fake creases, graphic tee, etc.), I tend to dress more classy when the need arise (dress pants, polo shirt, button-down dress shirt, dress shoes, etc.).

I just want to know ZU, what's with everyone problem with the swag movement? It's just a fashion trend that will die out soon anyway so why do you care. Honesty, why does it bother you so much?

(Another thing I've notice about people who are against this swag thing is that they're nerds, geeks, gamers, otakus, comic book fans, etc. My theory is that those people were bullied/are bullied by those who are a part of the swag movement in high school or something so as a means to get back at them, they mock them (the swaggers) via those parody Tumblr images and Facebook rants.)

Re: Swag

Like any other trend, it can be obnoxious.

Personally, I have no strong feelings one way or the other.

Re: Swag

(next time, make a thread title that's actually believable)

I, personally don't really care what people want to do. If someone wants to dress that way and it makes them happy, whatever then. It's only annoying when people are obnoxious about it, but that goes for any trend or fashion statement or whatever. There are people who dress like geeks and nerds that are annoying as ♥♥♥♥ too, it isn't confined to just one group.

I just see swag as another way of saying confidence.

Re: Swag

It's obnoxious cuz the only people who claim to have swag are people who have none. After all, one does not aknowledge one's swagness; it's unswag

Re: Swag

I'll paraphrase an image I saw once:

"Boys have swag, men have class."

That said, "swag" only becomes a problem for me when people are obnoxious about it, as with anything else.

Re: Swag

Whenever someone says swag I instantly think of this song.

And laugh because he sounds like Stevie from Malcolm in the Middle (who apparently embodies swag).

I don't hate swag, I just think that people who dress and act in a certain way to express the fact that they have swag really have none. As such peacocking is essentially the opposite of inner confidence.

Oh my god, ever since I saw a fan-made video of Tahno from the Legend of Korra, which used this song, I will forever associate this song with Tahno. And, consequently, laugh every time this song is brought up. Thanks for reminding me

EDIT:

Tahno = Swag
Tenzin = Class

(If you aren't familiar with Korra you're not going to get it, sorry man).

Re: Swag

It seems like another one of those attempts that some people make to feel different or unique.

On another note, I found out yesterday what YOLO means.
*sigh* .___.

That's quite ludicrous. There is no factual evidence that the people who are against people running around claiming to have 'swag' are people who are geeks/nerds. If anything, people dislike people saying they have 'swag' and dress a certain way because they act like fools (not everyone, but some people).

Anything that is obnoxious is going to be hated on, regardless of who it is. People running around saying 'swag' annoys people just like people running around saying YOLO annoys people.

Thus why I called it a theory and not fact. I never said it was true or factual. Again, theory = educated guess.
The reason I came up with that theory is because based on what I've seen on my Facebook news feed and the type of people I hang out and know, it is mostly people in the geek/nerd community. (This also could be influence with me being the Amon of nerds, but that's another story.)

And yes, it is quite annoying when people run around saying "OMG I GOT SWAG! OMG!" but I've notice that the people who talk about swag and YOLO are those who complain and ♥♥♥♥♥ against it.

Re: Swag

I LOVE SWAG!

I mean who doesn't like stolen pirate merchandise???

Oh... you mean "swag" as in what people say nowadays to make something sound cool? Awww.

Well, I dislike the term swag mainly because it's been thrown in my face so many god damned times. If I pop onto Facebook, there's an 80% chance there'll be a picture shared by one of my "friends" that has a guy, girl or couple with a hazy effect with some bullcrap like "Who needs a condom when you got Swag?" or "Who needs good grades if you got Swag?". I could go on really, but I won't. It's just that I've seen the word plastered over things, and I've heard people say so many god damned times, it makes me roll my eyes every time I see/read it.
And thanks to 9Gag, the following image always comes to mind whenever I hear "swag".

Re: Swag

As someone who likes fashion quite a bit, I have never, ever heard 'swag' as a fashion trend. Perhaps it's just a term to describe someone's looks, confidence etc.? Dumb word, though.(Coming from someone who's not a geek, nerd, otaku etc.)

Re: Swag

First off, what is 'swag'?

I'll give my opinion on it after I have a clear definition on what it is.

Re: Swag

I've talked about this before in Farore, a few months back. Edited for better coherence:

Quote:
From what I understand, there are a few definitions for swag. The simplest definition is how you walk.

Another is your overall demeanor, style and the way you do things.

It can sometimes have an extra g at the end for exaggeration purposes.

Swag can also be a noun, like clothes, merchandise from popular franchises, companies, etc.

Swag can be "loud," "subtle," "dirty," among other select adjectives. But adjectives are added for hilarity most of the time.
^Feel free to post and debate if you think otherwise

(That being said, I ♥♥♥♥ing hate Soulja Boy, his songs are gawd-awful)

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I've never heard of swag being used as a fashion trend...personally I don't think that makes any sense.

Re: Swag

I think the word swag is hilarious, and I use it all the goddamn time. I wasn't aware it was some kind of fashion trend? I thought, in this context, it was just the way you carry yourself/how cool you are.

People that jump on the hate train for trends are usually either dumb or trollin'.
