Re: The World Is Just Awesome!

Monsoon Season

[Insert "Storms in Africa" pt1 and 2 by Enya here]

I have some very fond memories of when I lived in various parts of the Four Corners region (where Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado meet). And also deeper into Arizona. The deserts in this region are beautiful, especially with the random mesas jutting out of the ground here and there. I lived with the Navajo for a time, and was quite taken by the beauty of nature here. My favorite part was when monsoon season rolled around. Picture yourself standing on your front porch and looking out across the desert. There is a mesa in the distance. Far off you can hear thunder and see these huge black clouds lumbering across the sky. Watching rain fall way off on the horizon with lightning flashing over the mesas (and perhaps a rainbow) is a beauty in of itself.

Then the clouds come closer. You can start to smell the rain. It is a wonderful smell. Things become exciting and energizing as you feel the storm coming in. Then suddenly it is upon you. This can be a frightening time as the thunder booms loud enough to shake you to the core. But I learned to love it. And listening to the heavy rain thudding all around you is very soothing.

Nature can be deadly, but in its deadliness we also find beauty.

Forests
I love seeing the light filter through the green leaves and examining the moss and ferns growing on the bark. I love running and jumping over fallen logs and listening to the birds.I feel so full of energy when I'm in the forest! I just have to climb every tree!

Deserts
Most people criticize the desert, but it holds a beauty like no other clime. Desert sunsets are so vibrant and beautiful and the stars at night are so vivid. There was a time when I was running across the sand dunes and I found wild flowers growing right out of the sand. I named one 'dune stars' because they were tiny, yellow dots that literally covered the dunes like stars. The other was a flower that I had never seen before. It looked like a white lily and gave off a perfume that resembled vanilla. I called it 'moon lily.' It was the most beautiful flower I had ever seen. Also the wildlife you can find in the desert is amazing. Hearing the coyotes sing their eerie, haunting, but beautiful song at night is unforgettable.

Ocean
Oh, the waves! I had never been to the ocean until last year! I love watching the waves crash on the rocks and looking in tide pools. I would climb all over the rocks barefoot. I must admit, I love the smell and taste of the ocean. I feel so at peace there!

Aw, who am I kidding! I love everywhere!

OK, so this video isn't sunshine and daisies (well maybe a few daisies), but I feel like it sums up life and humankind perfectly with all its goods and bads. I remember getting chills the first time I saw this on TV; it made me feel so small and it made me think about how our whole existence is so truly fascinating. The music is ♥♥♥♥ing awesome too.

There are a few awesome things in this world, but overall, it sucks. Call me negative, but just look around. The whole world is screwed up and miserable in some way except for a select few small groups, if that. Just look at all of the poverty, death, suffering, etc.

Re: The World Is Just Awesome!

I think the thing I find most beautiful about the world is music.

It's a global language. Even if you can't understand the language it's sung in, you can still get the feeling of the music in question. You don't need to know a certain language to know music. You don't need to be from a certain part of the world to appreciate it, either. Everyone can enjoy it in some shape or form, and with the current advancements in technology, some deaf people can even hear it - and music doesn't even really need to be heard so much as felt. You can say "Well, how can you appreciate something that can only be heard by your ears?" Beethoven became deaf, and still composed great music.

Ever notice that, with the right music, a scene in a video game, movie, TV show, etc, that feeling is enhanced simply by putting certain music in the scene? Music affects how we feel. I think that's a wonderful thing.

Everything about the human frame and brain as well as the environment is awesome. Scientific and technological advances are awesome. Seeing how far we've come in thousands of years and even in the last fifty is fantastic. Finally, a brighter thread in the Serious Discussion.

Big fan of the deserts here!

Also, I got ALL bewildered studying biology. As a religious person, I was prepared for studying micro-organisms to disrupt my religious beliefs. However, I was disappointed when I looked at it and realized that I genuinely believe the complexity of biology is the product of a greater being or deity.

So to me, I feel like I revel in the world's awesomeness through my religious and spiritual beliefs. And I'm okay with that.

I LOVE the desert. Love love LOVE it! Some of you guys know my rep for going to Vegas every, like, 6 months. I enjoy all of it- including the drive across the desert. I find it peaceful and absolutely gorgeous. <3

However, my dream vacation would be Bali, Indonesia. The land is so beautiful and different from what I am used to. The smells and sights are so appealing, too.

I love aeroplanes in fjords

I love fjords in general

I mean, imagine living there. Every day, that peaceful, serene, gorgeous landscape. Any fjord. Just to be in a fjord and live there, that'd be amazing.

I love fish. I love the oceans. I love the things that live in them.

It's just so contrasting to the land. We can't see things that amazing in Nebraska, but man... it's just gorgeous down beneath the sea. Under the sea, and all that jazz, little Mermaid~

I love the scenery of my home state, Nebraska.

I love the trees.

I love the people and their cities, their monuments and memorials.

Every single one of our 7 billion and counting is amazing and unique, a beautiful work of art on the blue-green canvas we call Earth. Every single one of the trillions upon trillions of the living organisms, is part of a grand symphony of life.

Every rock and pebble and atom and molecule that makes up the Earth makes up the greatest stage ever set, and every living being on it is but one of the actors.

We only have one Earth.

We will always only have one Earth, no matter how many world we spread out to some day. Only one place where our species arose from, only one home among the countless number of stars out there.

It's too precious to not love.

Behold! Some natural landforms that I find so amazing! 8D

The Grand Canyon! ♥♥♥♥♥in'!

Mount Everest is the King of All Mountains!

Mount Fuji! Quite majestic!

Now let us see what we have achieved during our time here on this planet. We started with...

Then moved to...

Then finally...

Oh, and just think about what humans have accomplished in the last 100 years. In 1912, if you told someone what the world would look like in 2012, they'd think you had lost your mind and suggest you'd book yourself into the nearest asylum, or take a dip to cool your head.

Hell, if you had gone back to the 1950s and told everyone what the world would look like in 2012, they'd tell you, "You've been reading too many of those darned comic books, sport!" and tell you to cut back on your crazed comic book obsession.

If I were writing a sci-fi, I'll have one of my alien characters say this exact line, "If I had to summarize them, sir, I'd say thusly: Humans...hairless, awkward apes who have had the audacity to build civilizations that covered their entire homeplanet; and evolved into something more than cave people flinging their feces at each other. Impressive."

Do not steal, plz.

I like this thread. Makes me feel happy to be a human. In this day and age, when all we seem to do is try to ♥♥♥♥ over each other, I'm glad to have a respite from that; see the good in us and our planet for once.

Now, I'm going to go hug my globe tightly as representation for how much I love the Earth.

Re: The World Is Just Awesome!

Anyone who knows me failry well knows that I'm a huge fan of dinosars. And so I'd like to share with you what I consider to be the most important - sad and beautiful - event in the history of our planet:

For over a hundred million years - a number unfathomable to us humans - this group of animals dominated the lands. Marvellous creatures, all of them. From the largest of sauropods to the tiniest of raptors, from the most harmless of duckbills to the fiercest of tyrannosaurs, I can't help but admire their magnificence. In my eyes, they're evolution's greatest creations. Perfectly suited to their environment, constantly changing to keep up in the arms race between predator and prey.

Yet despite their awesome abilities, their size, armor, horns, claws, teeth and brains - they didn't stand a chance. A testament to their glory and their mortality alike - only an extraterrestrial attack on the planet itself was powerful enough to end their era - and give way to weaker forms of life: us, the mammals. Everything that we are, we owe to that fateful day.

Though like every good story, we get treated to a twist at the end. Thanks to years of research, we know that some dinosaurs survived and live alongside us to this very day, 65 million years after their downfall. Their reign may be long gone, but their legacy lives on, making our lives so much richer.

I love music festivals. When thousands of people flock to gorgeous venues in dramatic landscapes to see dozens of killer artists perform for them.... magic happens, really. A big music festival is the best day of my life.

Clouds

Those creamy, whispy things that float way up in the air. Isn't it amazing how many different formations and shades there are?

Sunrise/Sunset

Easily the best parts of the day are early morning and evening when the sun rises or sets. The whole world seems to be tinted in beautiful oranges, especially the clouds! Sunrise always puts me in a good mood and hopeful for a great day ahead of me. And sunset always causes me to reflect and fill me with inner peace.

This thread needs to become active again! Good thing it hasn't been a month yet.

There are so many reasons to love our planet. One of the most beautiful sights ever is seeing Earth from space! Personally, I've never been out in space, but I've seen pictures.

I love the deep blue color of the oceans, some greens and browns from the land. Then there's the beautiful swirls made by the clouds! The polar ice caps are a looker too. We live on a giant blueberry of deliciousness!

Who else falls in love with Earth and feel lucky to live here after seeing a satellite photo?

Re: The World Is Just Awesome!

Okay, I know I've mentioned this in my first post, but I've spent ten days next to the Mediterranean Sea, and I have rediscovered my love towards large salty waters.

I understand why people considered the sea a deity; when you stand on the seashore and it's waving with all its power and strength, you can't help but feel tiny and weak next to it. Yet when you go in, it's soothing, loving, like a cool embrace, and cradles you. The mere sight of the sea can calm me and capture my furious/upset thoughts. Seriously, sometimes I wonder that the reason why sick royal people were sent to the sea by medics was not the "air" (though I don't doubt: that salty vapour must be clearly helpful) but that beautiful, relaxing, peaceful sight.

And in every minute of the day, its colours are breathtaking, vivid and marvellous; not to mention the sunset...!

I love the sea. Every drop of it.

Re: The World Is Just Awesome!

Me too. There is something about the sea that speaks out to everyone.

I would've worshipped the sea myself if I were one of the Ancients.

Right now, it's thundering. There's something soothing to hear the soft rumble across the darken clouds, the light pitter-patter of raindrops on my bedroom window. Sometimes, the clouds would be split open by a brief, sudden burst of light, then disappear.

The sky can be just as beautiful as the surface.

@ Tom Servo- Are the American bison/buffalo still around? I keep hearing conflicting evidences throughout my college career. Some say we had unjustly wiped them out, while others say that they are back and making recovery. I hope they are actually back, as they are a beauty.
