Anyone thinking bout going to the military?

Actually, that submit new thread button was getting rusty, so I just thought this up. Secondly, is there anyone here interested in the military. I don't know, but I may just join Air Force (Hell and I'm afraid of hights!). What jogs my insperation is my ROTC unit... I could really get some serious rank in the Air Force. Is anyone like me?

I almost thought about this once, and then I realized that the idiots I'm protecting aren't worth my own life. No, actually, they wouldn't accept me, as much as I'd like to, because of all my health problems. It's a nice dream though, so long as there's no death involved.

I thought about it, several times. Still do. I wanted to join the Air force as a pilot at one point. Even if I wanted to now, I'd have to get that laser eye surgery thing as I use glasses for a start.

I was seriously thinking about joining the Canadian military (yes we have one, almost unfortunately) but I decided I could do better use of my time than to train to use 50+ y/o helicopters (google Sea King Helicopters)

Wow, that has to be the most spineless thing, ever. I mean seriously, if you join the armed forces you are protecting your country. People usually see that as what they are doing. They feel good that their friends and families will have a safer country. But you, you just wanna kill some people?! That's horrible. Why don't you become a terrorist you bastard.

Though, I agree with him Hungry Gamer, that is a very foolish statement. If you want to join the Armed Forces just to shoot someone as 'fun', you don't deserve to be in the Armed Forces. Those men join there as an act of bravery only to protect their country and the people of the country, not for the fun of war, and that is the only reason you should join. You obviously don't understand the horror of war, the terrible thing called 'battle'. Killing someone is wrong, no matter what the situation. The only time where it's rightful is if to protect the lives of others in an extremley dire situation. Those men go out there and fight, and kill, but do they enjoy it? No. Do they enjoy shooting people? Not at all. They even know that their killing is slightly wrong, but it must be done, it is the only way. War is a grisly thing, it is evil beyond anything else, a form of Satan in my eyes. You lack integrity if you believe that shooting and killing an enemy is 'fun'

I glare at the recuiters when they come to my school. If one ever comes up to me and asks me to join, I'll give him a piece of my mind; let him know what I really think about the military.

I couldn't bring myself to kill someone. In self-defense, in my own surroundings, perhaps, but not on a battlefield, fighting only because I was told to.

I'm not going to waste my life for my country by joining the military. However, I might go into police academy and become a cop, depending on how my Criminology Major is going.

Possibly the Air Force, mainly to fly those jets around, and cause I wouldn't be in the best physical condition for the Army or Marines.

Then again, if Hillary gets elected in 2008 and I'm in the Armed Forces, I can expect to be doing work for the UN. *shudders*

Meh, I don't want to join the military, but if I wanted to(or had to*shudder*), I'd go with the Air Force seeing as I'd love to fly a plane. That or the Army as an engineer soldier, seeing as I want to take up enginerring as one of my majors in college.

Oh and if Ii wanted to join, it'd be if my country got attacked full-on like in Peral Harbor. So there, questions anwsered.

I am, to an extent, considering enlistment when I get older. Only if we at a time of peace though. It is human nature to mot wish to kill. I would never, if possible. Unfortunately, we live in a world full of bastards which requires us to invade or be at risk.

It's basically suicide. You join the military, you're going to Iraq to fight with the rest of them. If you die, you're a hero. If you live, you go back and fight some more, then die a hero.

It's not a good idea, let's just pray Bush doesn't bring back the draft, then my peers and I are in big trouble. I know we should do it to defend out country, but do most regular people WANT to fight in war. I think not.

One option for me is to partake in the Australian Defence Force Academy, basically Uni merged with the Army. Plus you get paid as you learn.

And I might be joining the Army Reserves as a part-time job, but regulars is a bit far off for me at the moment.

Just a note, the original question was if anyone was interested, please tell. Not a debate on the morality of being in the military.

I couldnt bring myself to think that many innocent people could die within my actions. And plus, I doubt I could kill. I'd need to be very strong at heart, and in reality, I'm not.

I could join the Army or the Marines or whatever, but I don't have any immediate plans to do so in the future. I don't have any problems with seeing people die, since I've seen my share of it during my life.
