I only recently stopped biting my nails completely for two months now after years of living with the habit. My nails were ♥♥♥♥ing awful before and I was so embarrassed with how they looked that I always had my hands in my pockets whenever I was out in public.
I like to grow my nails long now, but not so long to the point where I'll trim then a little short if they get in the way of me holding a pen/pencils etc.
I think long nails look really good on girls, natural ones anyway, but for men... I prefer them short.
I prefer short nails on myself and others, definitely. My nails grow so fast so I'm constantly cutting them, but I keep them long enough for things like scratching. I used to bite them frequently, but it's been years since I've done it.
I love painting mine! I've got tons of nail polish and I paint them when I get bored, though I'm totally awful at it (especially when I do my right hand). I also love French manicures. If I had the money for it, I'd be getting my nails done professionally a lot haha.
I do not like nails. I dislike them more on myself rather than on another people however, and keep mine cut as short as possible. I have a problem with my nails in that they're very thin and break easily, prone to splitting/fraying. I don't know why they're so delicate, but they're in a pain in the arse and keeping them cut as short as possible solves most problems I have with them. Ugh, just last night my little toenail got snagged on a sock and was torn in half when I tried pulling the caught thread off. I had to cut the rest of the nail off to make sure it would grow back evenly. Yeah, that's how stupidly delicate my nails are.
I don't like false nails much either, though natural ones that are really well-taken care of can be beautiful. Toenails - ick.
Until I was 16, I would constantly pick at my nails. I'd just pick them away as soon as they got long enough to do so. I'd pick at the cuticles too, which was gross and kind of painful. For my year 12 formal I got acrylic nails (much stronger and nicer than plain fakes!), which was cool, but the cool part was that after I got them removed, the urge to pick at my nails just disappeared. Since then I've grown my nails. They're pretty strong, which is neat, and currently painted silver.
I sometimes pick at the cuticles still, though. I think it's a stress thing.
I always cut mine off because I am sooooo obsessed with having my hands clean, if I have nails at all then I feel like my hands are dirty.
On girls, I don't like nails either, maybe if they have short fake ones with the white edge but other than that. I'd rather they were just regular with black or dark red nail polish.
My ex would always have her nails in black polish but they were always chipped. I loved it though.
now that I am no longer playing any instrument that requires somewhat longish nails (read: guitar) (also please forget that picks exist for a moment okay thanks), I keep my nails rather short; I cannot stand them getting in the way of other things when they're long. thankfully it seems I only need to clip them once every other week to keep them from being a massive nuisance.
I once bit my nails! was quite the habit to break, but I did a little while ago.
Haven't clipped mine in three weeks, and they're as long as my mother's. I suppose I have this subconscious mentality saying that once I get back to school on Monday after break and clip them, I'll be a new person and do better. Or something.
