Bored at work

Holy balls, I am at work, it is 13.48 and we've had about 5 people walk through the door into our shop.

The entire mall (which is adjacent to an IKEA) is completely dead. Nobody anywhere, just the awkward sound of MJ over the PA.



Have you ever found your self in a ghost town at work? A place which you're used to being absolutely bustling with people, just completely empty? Have you ever worked in a place like this? What do you do to pass the time?

Are there cameras watching you?

If not, then Youtube videos on your phone if it can manage. But those can only keep me occupied for so long..

Ohh yeah.

I work at this tiny coffee shop in a remote off-campus location at my Uni. It's not usually very busy, but Fridays are absolutely dead. I get on a good day, maybe 10-15 customers. Friday? Like 5. Most of the time, I text, surf the web on my phone, or steal baked goods from the display counter. Or make myself a Mocha or something.


Still sucks though

I'm a manager at a big movie theatre when I'm not at school so when we're literally dead it's very strange. Although sometimes even when it's busy I get bored. I've become pretty adept at coming up with creative solutions to my boredom! =D

Yeah there are cameras, but I don't care lol, I sit behind the counter and surf the web.
But seriously, so ♥♥♥♥ing boring after a while.

I do homework at work, lol. Or play DS. I work Sunday evenings, so no one shows up.

Today, I watched half of 500 Days of Summer on my iPod (my headphones are ♥♥♥♥ so it was a real pain, though).

When I was working at an inbound call centre, the early morning, overnight, or weekend shifts were always really slow. The worst was working a Sunday evening shift over a long weekend. I think I got maybe a half dozen calls in an eight hour shift.

I read a whole bunch of books working that job. Also spent a lot of time on tvtropes and generally dicking around online since they didn't monitor our internet activity.

I work in fast food. Being in the USA, I'm usually fairly busy due to that. I would love to be able to chill and surf the web at work.

I used to work in a restaurant that's known for being extremely busy everyday, but then we get those "ghost days".

I end up polishing over thousands of cutlery for three hours straight to pass the time lol.

It's definitely not fun though. You can't really do much in a quiet restaurant except for moving tables around, refilling salt and pepper shakers, looking out the window, juggling potatoes with the other workers etc...


It drives you mad after a while.

I work as a cashier, and we do have those dead days.

Mostly what I do is I talk to other cashiers (and if a manager who actually cares walks by, pretend to be cleaning the belt) or if they put me away from everyone else in Narnia, I take some receipt paper and draw.

Nah, I never have had a job before. Although there is this one place a few blocks from where I live that has not gotten all that much business, and so I go in there and the place is dead.

I work in a restaurant that's part of the hotel that serves the room service or ala carte orders and yeah, there are times where there are completely no orders, very seldom though. Like three to two times a year.

What do I do to past time?
Check if everything is complete over and over again or fool around with the sous chef cooking and inventing something.

Whenever I'm bored at work, I quickly begin to calculate how much money I'll be making when working.

Then I get back to work.

When it was a slow day when i worked at the ice cream parlor, i would park my happy ass on the dishwasher thing. (it sat kinda low) and i would whip out my GBA and just go to town.
Or talk super nerdy stuff with my manager.

When its slow, thats when you hatch master plans with your co-workers. Like pranks, cool stuff to do on weekends, and find out how much porn they keep on their laptops.

I think what he's saying is more being bored at work because there isn't work to be done, not because your work is boring. probably not applicable outside of retail, but yeah.
