Not really. If you have a preference, you have a preference, and there's no point in dating someone who you're absolutely not going to be attracted to.

It's not like you're saying "♥♥♥♥ OFF SOUTHERNERS, GET OFF MY INTERNET", you're just making your preference known on a site where it's completely appropriate to do so.

Nope. If it's a turn off to you, it's a turn off to you. I don't see the problem.

Different strokes for different folks, thats your preference then so be it.

If it's a turn off it's a turn off...but I think you should also be open to discovering you don't mind it so much for the right person. Because you really never know. Fo realz.

I don't think you're a hypocrite so long as you dislike the accent but not the person. For example, if you don't like the southern accent because of the way it sounds, then that's fine. If you don't like the southern accent because the person with the accent is going to be a rodeo clown or something, then that's stereotyping.

If the accent is a turn off simply in the matter of mate selection, then you can’t really help (to my knowledge) what does or doesn’t get it up. If the turn off extends to more than the properties of sexual attraction, and you begin to devalue individuals by extension of their southern accent—then yes there’s a problem.

Speaking for myself as a southerner, most people who have aspirations to become professionals have to take at least some preliminary steps at minimizing their accent. I’ve never really thought too much about it—usually considering minimizing your accent just the cost of doing business. However, it does become rather irksome that the accent’s capacity for melodious articulation is buried under the stank-laden-weight of reality television and popular perception. It can be a rather beautiful thing:

Seriously though, no it really doesn't. If you're not attracted to it, hey, you're not attracted to it. No big deal. No hypocrisy there considering you can't help it.

It's perfectly fine that you can't stand Southern accents. I don't like palóc (Northern Hungarian, hehe) accent either, though it's not that major that it'd turn me off.

But I think you should be a little more opened, you know. What if one day you meet a lady (with all those curves you hold so dear ) who is perfect, absolutely perfect in every way, her only vice is that she has a Southern accent. What would you do then? Say goodbye and continue seeking? I don't think it'd be a smart move. I believe a person can make you like a feature that you otherwise find unusual, odd or disturbing. Because it's the person globally that you are attracted to. :>

Nah mang, I absolutely abhor a southern drawl. It makes my skin crawl. (no offense to anyone with that accent.) It just doesnt sit well with me. Although an Arkansas accent is really comical to me. My grandmother has an (rather watered down) Arkansas accent and it makes her more deadpan delivery downright HILARIOUS!

I think it will reduce your responces, but I agree Upper South accents are way nicer and more charming.

I personally couldn't imagine being with a girl with too thick of an Oriental accent, but I'm a pretty easygoing as long as I can understand them without problem.

Nah, it's not bad. It's like for me, I can't see myself dating somebody who talks and sounds like they're uneducated. My preference actually might be worse than yours actually. But yeah, anyway, it's what floats your boat and it shouldn't offend anybody.
