Does anyone have any good ideas for a Zelda related costume? Anything under 30 dollars and that doesn't requiare dozens of hours to make is good. I was going to go with the happy mask salesman.... but i dont have time to make so many masks.
Hmm... I'm sure you could make a pretty simple, decent Link costume with an oversized shirt, some white tights, and a hat that you can either make or buy. Oh, and a belt; that would be important for making the shirt resemble a tunic. If your hair isn't blonde, you can always use temporary dye or a wig. Getting a sword and shield would be pretty costly though. Maybe this blog can help.
If you still want to stick to the Happy Mask Salesman idea, you could still dress up as him and just use different masks (i.e. cheap ones from the store.) I don't think your costume has to be completely accurate; thinking outside the box has never hurt anyone. This particular cosplay took a lot of work, but perhaps it could give you ideas on where to begin. Personally, I would include horror masks since it's Halloween and all, but that's just me.
You could always put off making the accurate masks until you want to do a serious cosplay.
I'm assuming you are a male because you first wanted to be the Happy Mask Salesman, however, as a suggestion, I will include this link. It gives steps on making a Zelda costume and the materials needed seem fairly priced and it appeared simple to make.
Of course, any hand-made costume is going to take some work and dedication, so if it takes longer than you expected, don't get bummed out! The more time you spend, the better it will turn out.
Hopefully that helped you. (:
I challenge you to somehow make a true-to-the-original costume of ???. That would be amazing.
But realistically, if you want to do something that looks scary and isn't just a character, why not try a Poe? They have a relatively simple costume, mainly just a flowing dress, a dark face, and a lantern (which could be your bucket if you're trick-or-treating--which you should be, no matter what age you are--or just a cool light if you're going to a party or whatnot). Here's the link to the ZeldaWiki page, where there are lots of good images. Whatever you decide, be sure to let us know, I think that dressing up as something from Zelda is way-cool.
You can actually get mock wigs and such that resemble Link since theres not yet a licensed Link costume yet. (i reckon we may see one by next year though....given the way the Mario ones were treated.) However, if you dont want to do Link, and with a tiny budget, its gonna be a bit of a challenge on such short notice. (Halloween is only weeks away.) Happy Mask Salesman doesnt sound that hard. What you can do is take an old satchel or backpack and use some construction paper and make "masks" out of that. Putting the construction paper made masks on the pack somehow.
Also taking Doctor You's example, you could try for the Poe Seller from OoT. He may not be too hard and costly to make. A sheet of sorts with a maybe paper belt. There are masks you can get relatively cheap that black out your face.
A thousand eyes and one. Still watching... You can still PM me for the clan test! A Dream of Westeros: 4900-2186-7042 Animal Crossing Dream Suite
If you don't want to go with a simple Link costume, you can always try a different video game character if you're a general gamer. I'm going as Mario this year, I found the costumes at Hot Topic to be fairly cheap and pretty awesome :3
I'm actually going as Link. I already own a sword, an ocarina, and white tights. I'm probably going to get a cheap pair of gloves (=$4) an oversized green shirt or simple green dress (<$15, if I play my cards right) and imma make a hat. (=$??no idea)
in general, people don't like to be confused. depending on the company you'll be in, a Link, Zelda or Ganondorf would be the safest bet--and Link would be the most suited to your price range.
actually, you know what? ♥♥♥♥ it. go as Tingle. DO IT
I actually went as link in the 4th grade. My mother just sowed the thing together, and I bought a cheap sword and shield from wal-mart. I also got hold of a plastic ocarina to finish the costume.
I don't remember much, it being 6 years ago and all, but I don't think it was that hard, she made it in like 2 days.
but most of the awesome costumes that people wear are by hand! (almost done with mine haha)
Well, i could say go to Goodwill and get really cheap stuff there, or depending where you live, find a really cheap store and buy clothing there and take some time and do it so you can do it right .__.
