Does anyone know...

Sorry for sounding like a computer idiot, but I forgot how to partition the hard drives.

Can anyone tell me how do I partition my drive into C:\ and D:\, with C:\ being 20gb and D:\ being 100gb? I got 120gb of hard drive space in total. Thanks.

Re: Does anyone know...

Run fdisk to partition drives. Repartition some of the free space on C drive, and name it D. Be careful not to delete your data though. You should probably back it up.

Re: Does anyone know...

Can you offer anymore information? What Operating System are you running?

Please be reminded that with a 120gb hard drive you don't have 120gb of space. To find out the approximate (but very accurate) amount of actual HDD space we will do a simple mathematical calculation ( 120gb - 7% = 111.6gb ). So I recommend a smaller partition to keep Windows & Systems Files on & a larger Partition for your applications, games etc.

Maybe 10gb for Windows & 100gb for Everything else?

*Just saw the post above *
If I'm not mistaken Windows NT,2000 & XP don't come with the partitioning utility FDISK, and if they do I highly recommend using something else.

Re: Does anyone know...

Thanks for replying. Yes, I do know that even with 120 gb, that doesn't mean I have the full 120 gb (we always got suckered into thinking that).

My OS is Windows XP, Service Pack 1 (I don't like SP2).

According from what I can still remember, I think partitioning the drives can be done through reformatting the entire computer, and in the DOS mode, we can set two drives and split the space in half. But I just forgot how to do that.

And yes, I'm planning to make C: into 20gb, just in case I get more programs installed and D: into like 90gb or something to store files and games, etc.

Re: Does anyone know...

It depends. If you've already got XP installed on the system, you probably have the entire hdd formatted for one partition. You could use a program like Partition Magic, but risk bootching up the whole thing.
The way I would do it is just start from scratch. Boot up to your Windows XP disk, hit Enter, then F8 at the license agreement. It may ask you if you want to install a fresh copy of windows, and to do so you hit Esc. That will take you to the partition info box and you just delete any current partition you have.

From there hit C to create a partition and just enter the partition size for the C drive. It takes you back to the partition info page, hit C on unpartitioned space again to setup the size of the D partition.

Back at the Partition Information page select the partition (should be labeled as new raw) that you want to install windows on, and hit enter. Select your formating option and there you go, it will format and install windows once the format is complete.

Once inside windows, you'll have to format the second partition. You can do that by right clicking on My Computer and selecting Manage. Click on Disk Management from the list on the left and it will show you your partitions. From there I'm pretty sure you can just right-click on the unformatted partition and select format, though I can't remember, lol.

Let me know when you're done whether it's helped or not. If not, we can always summon the computer gods to help, lol.

Re: Does anyone know...

I recomend using the program "Partition Magic". It's very easy, and it works.
It costs though, allthough you can always dum-di-dum it from the internet.

Re: Does anyone know...

Lol, I'll try the first method first, and then if it doesn't work, I'll try the partition magic. And if it still doesn't work, then I'll just leave my computer alone.
