Flu Vaccinations

Yeah, it's flu season once again, and so far it's started off great. Everyone's scrambling to get a vaccination, and it seems that people have been turned away and arrested, and one person even died waiting 5 hours in line for a vaccination. She was elderly, and died of head wounds from fainting and hitting her head.
So far, basically anyone who works with people, ie care givers, health workers, child care people, the elderly, little children, and people with health issues will be getting the most priority. So far, this eliminates me from getting a vaccination, but then again, the last time I had a flu shot was when I was like 3, and have never had the flu before.
Do you think you're going to get a vaccination this year? I think that since the majority of the people here are young adults who are generally healthy, then I doubt many of us will, but then again, there is that minority. For those of you who have gone to get the flu vaccination this year, how was the lines, and did you ever actually get it?

Re: Flu Vaccinations

I'm in Canada, BC, right now. I got my flu shot two weeks ago. There was no line up at all. In fact, my family made an appointment with the family doctor, we went as time indicated, and got our flu shots in less than ten minutes. I guess we were just lucky that there was still an abundant amount of flu shots back then.

It really doesn't matter if you are young or elderly. As long as you feel like you can survive the flu season and have nothing to lose, then you don't have to get the flu shot. For me, I have to because I am not going to get sick, stay at home for two to three days, and then miss all my university homework, projects, and exams.

Re: Flu Vaccinations

I already caught this year's flu before they even knew there was going to be a shortage of the vaccine, so I know I don't need to take a shot that someone else could need more.

Re: Flu Vaccinations

I'm not getting one this year. Two years ago, the last time I got vaccinated, I got sick from the shot. One or two days after I got it, BAM! I'm sick with the flu.

The past two years, I've never caught the illness and I'm confident enough that I won't again.

Re: Flu Vaccinations

I've never had a flu shot, but I hope to get one this year. Unfortunately, I don't know when and where they'll be available.

I caught the flu last year, and I really hated it. I never took the flu seriously until then. I didn't know that flu was that wicked.

Re: Flu Vaccinations

How long have you guys stay home and recuperate after you got the flu like last year? For me, it's just 2 days at home, and five days in total with the sickness.

Re: Flu Vaccinations

I wouldn't personally bother with them as last time someone in my family got one they got worse symtoms than the flu could do to ya.

I would rather have the flu.

Re: Flu Vaccinations

The problem with flu vaccinations is that whenever there is a surplus, they end up thowing out 2 million doses because no one cares enough to get it, but once there is a shortage people panic and just make the situatuion worse.

I dont remember if I ever had one. I dont want one.

Re: Flu Vaccinations

I think I had the flu once when I was very little. I haven't had it since, and I have only recently been vaccinated for it again.

I am pretty sure I am supposed to get it every year, so I should have to get it soon. I don't care, though, no one around here panics about that sort of thing... We always seem to have enough. And not many people around here are scared of shots... not that I know of, at least. So, I'm sure no one refuses to take it.

In the end, flu vaccinations are no big deal where I am. They come, they go, you end up with a bandaid on for an hour or so. Big deal.

Re: Flu Vaccinations

Have you ever gotten a flu though? You want to have a flu... I don't see why anyone would want to have a flu because he/she hates school so much. Having a flu is the worst feeling you'll ever get. Your muscles ache, your head throbbing, your nose all stuffy and runny, you feel like burning up one minute and freezing cold the next, you feel weak, you have upset stomach, you feel like wanting to vomit, and then, the cough starts at the third stage of the flu. Ugh... I would rather go to school than catching one again.

Re: Flu Vaccinations

I dont think I've ever had the flu, although I've had very complicated colds, such as bronchitis and the like. However, earlier this year, I was diagnosed with asthma, and the recent TV ad recommends that people with asthma, diabetes, etc NEEDS to get the jab, although I'm wary of it.

Although I've never had the flu before, I'm always getting ill with colds that are little more than an annoyance.

Re: Flu Vaccinations

I thought flu vaccinations were reserved for elderly people and those with very low resistance... at least that would seem logical. If you're not gonna die of it, I'd rather someone else who might die from it get my shot and I'll just feel miserable for a week.

I don't think I've ever had a flu vaccination, pretty sure I haven't. And sure I've had the flu, loads of times.
There's no real problem if you're quite healthy and have a decent resistance. You just feel horrible for a week or so, but it'll pass.
Though my last flu was the worst, on the boat to Iceland and that in combination with not eating, and throwing up cause of constant moving of the ship caused me to faint o.O yeah.. but that was a clash of all kinds of circumstances, not just flu.

No. What they did is that elderly and very young, new born children can get the vaccinations for free. The rest can pay for the flu shot. It's completely legal. As for toughing it out for a week, some people just don't have the time to feel weak and sick and stay at home for that long because they have jobs, school, and loads of other things to do. The sense of responsibility will make some really healthy people to take the flu shot.
