WANTED: Voice Actors!

HEY

So basically me and a few others people are making a half Let's Play half Roleplay series in Minecraft, where during the course of the adventure we'll be finding audiologs. These logs will have your voices on them.

Setting

Post-apocalyptic, think of the Fallout videogame series. If you aren't familiar with that, then basically sometime in the near future a massive nuclear disaster happens, people live in underground vault civilizations, culture stops progressing.


Recordings

These recordings will be audio logs or basically spoken diary entries from citizens in the other vaults (which we explore), detailing their occurances. The theme is ideally a 50's kind of vibe, but that's not essential. Also, the recordings when used in the series will be put through some form of muffly radio signal, so they won't sound exactly how you post them. Because of this, you can use pretty much anything you like to record with, you don't need some studio quality mic.


Multiple Positions

We don't just want one person for this so if we say yes to one guy or girl then you don't need to give up. We don't really have a limit on how many people we use, just so long as the accents aren't completely ridiculous (unless they need to be) and the sentences are accented in the right areas ("why would I want to touch THAT?", not "why WOULD I want to touch that?".) So yeah, having good knowledge of how to pitch your sentences is a good trait.

"Log, June 19th, 2147 - things are getting worse. Frances said she'd quit but I found a stash of tobacco behind her medicine chest. I can't say I blame her.. word from the overseer says that we lost 40% of our supplies last night due to a god damn 'accident' in the preservation chamber. Like hell, I saw Edwin and his men in there after lock up - that power hungry bastard is taking it all for himself. Me and Frances aren't exactly part of the Utopian Ranger Squad either, people are being booted from this vault and we're next. I can feel it."

That's basically it though! If you want to apply, just record yourself reading out the script (remember, as if you were speaking this for the first time since it's a diary), then post it in this thread or PM me with it if you don't want it to be public. You can record multiple takes if you like, using different accents and so on. As for 'delivery', just upload your recording to MediaFire or something.

Very cool, G-String. I might give it a crack when I get home from work. You're not too picky about sound quality here? (erm, I kinda have that beat into me thanks to a certain editor of mine).

Very interesting project. Inspired from BioShock, eh? With the tape recorders and stuff.

I was planning on doing something like this myself. Very much like this actually. But my computer ****s up whenever I try playing Minecraft these days and the whole thing lags. So I sadly cannot be of any help.

I hope my Belgian accent isn't too thick. Changed my voice a little bit but kept it basic otherwise, if you'd like me to retry in different ways just let me know.

Here I thought I could have some fun with this, made a MediaFire account, hunted down a mic for my computer, and couldn't get it to record.
Finally got it working via the Control Panel.

Interesting bit of Rock Band trivia: that echo you hear in the voice playback? It ain't software generated. The microphone does that by itself.

So, I'm gonna buy a cheapo mic in town today. Already kind of wanted to do recordings for some of my own purposes, so you can all look forward to my slurring monotones and badly done mock accents.

I disagree- having a variety of inflections and attitudes portrayed gives a person the chance to try out new things and new ways of saying something. Any director or actor will tell you that sometimes lines don't come out the way you thought they would,but it turns out to be a happy accident. An actor should have some leeway when it comes to how they deliver their lines, as long as the basic message is not changed.

As someone experienced with voice over work, I can tell you it's standard industry practice to record multiple takes and slightly alter your delivery each time. After you do several takes, you start to get a feel for what is the best way, and you settle on one good one that combines the best of what you previously were tinkering with

I'll give it a go tomorrow when no one else is home.

Thanks to everyone who says they're going to record, I can't wait to hear them (you too SD.) And nice Mandrag, glad it's working. Also Jin I got that download fine, sounding great. Besides you, Future is the only other person so far who has sent me recordings. But yeah!

Uhm I'm not masking my accent... that's how I actually sound. All I did was make my voice a little bit grungy.

I'm only good at typing in English.

And because of that, I'm giving this a try.

I don't like swearing, can I record a modified version?

Swearing is useful for dramatic effect. If you still don't agree, what, is your mum home or something?
