Chemtrails . . .

Please read before making fun of me.

I was heading downtown to get my bike fixed when two agitated men ran up to me, handed me a pamphlet and pointed to the sky.

They believe that certain jet planes are spraying potentially harmful chemicals over cities worldwide. They claimed that this is the first time they're spraying Madison, WI (where I go to college), although Milwaukee (where I normally live) has been a target for about a decade. Their source for this was an unnamed pilot from the Waukesha plane field.

The pamphlet cited this website.

I don't endorse the site in any way. However, I did watch that video, and I do wonder about those streams of gas that take a while to dissipate. They're not all like that, after all. I'm sure environmental conditions or altitude could affect the nature of these gases, but it's still concerning. Further, the video claims that some of these planes loop back and forth over the same area in such a way that would be extremely inefficient for travel, and very wasteful of jet fuel. Of course, I haven't observed this firsthand, so I'm just going by what the video says . . .

Look, I understand that even suggesting something like this opens one up to ridicule. I very much want to believe that there is nothing to this, and that this is the work of crazy people with active imaginations and too much time on their hands.

So I would like to have a respectful discussion about this. I didn't put this in Serious Discussion because I know most of the members there will go ape-**** over it. I'm not necessarily saying I believe there is a conspiracy, but simply that I find it concerning and would like to talk about it.

Well isn't ther acid rain in Europe somewhere?

I remember reading something about it because it is eating away at the ancient statues.

Thats probably all I can contribute. I'm not sure about these gas cloud things I mean, that kind of thing would be hard to notice.
I'm pretty sure that jsut looks like the cloud planes leave behind.

The problem with any conspiracy theory is that its much like the bible, you really can't prove it and you can't disprove it.

That being said, I've also heard that fluoridation of water also has the double effect of calming people and making them very open to suggestion. A type of mental control. And to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if this type of thing was going on in multiple forms.

Yes, one inclined to accept the danger of chemtrails would often be wary of fluoride as well.

I'm not personally concerned with fluoride, but I do find this chemtrail thing unnerving. 'Cause yeah, why do those long white streams stay in the air for so long, while others quickly dissipate?

At the same time, I realize that no accredited organization has come out and said anything about this, and I almost feel like a nutcase even considering it.

I wish there was more certainty in life.

I have a multitude of negative personality traits, but if there is one positive thing I can say about myself, it is that I am open-minded. Almost everyone claims to be open-minded, but most aren't. I am truly open-minded, and I will consider almost everything. And that leads to a lot of inner conflict, indecisiveness, and lack of resolve.

In fact, I'd say uncertainty is of the most painful aspects of life. I want to know 100% truth.

Acid rain is present pretty much anywhere there's a major urbanized area, it's not exclusive to Europe.

Read that. You should be convinced the government is not trying to turn us all into lab rats now.

Well, after fretting about it for about three hours, I decided that it doesn't really matter either way since I can't personally do anything about it. I would have been better and happier having never heard of this. Now I just need to hope I don't have nightmares.

I realize that the overwhelming likelihood is that this is a bat-**** conspiracy theory. But even a shred of doubt causes unrest. It's a bit like religion, actually.

I'm sure if the government is capable of spraying chemicals from planes to influence the population of a country, they can make a website too.

Some people's mistrust of their own government mystifies me. Sure, you should't believe [I]every single[I] word polititians say to get you to vote for them, but no democratically elected government would even think of experimenting on their own citizens on such a huge scale like that group are implying-not only does it contradict the governments main aim of governing the people, but it would just be too dangerous if it got out.
Next people would be saying theft is a government scheme of keeping some people getting rich...

Chemtrails are a classic conspiracy theory.

What you see being left are contrails, which is simply water condensation, not any particular gas.

Further, that image you've posted is easy enough to explain: It's a standard plane run (there are a fair number of paths that quite a few planes follow due to good wind conditions/lots of airports/etc.) so of course you end up with lots of contrails.

Finally, the concentration of any chemical that could be dusted by an airplane at cruising altitude would be essentially nil when it hit the ground. It would be far more efficient to poison water or food, or even to personally spray every person in the face with the stuff.

As expected, sleep last night was compromised. My heart pounded every time I heard a plane (recalling days it'd do the same when I worried about nuclear attacks), I woke up a number of times, and I felt physically sick, which of course only amplified my anxiety (it could be the toxins!).

This will pass, but it has already caused me stress. I guarantee stress is what will send me to the grave. My grandpa died at 50 of a heart attack, and he was not overweight. It's hard to believe, but anxiety and anger are as good of predictors of heart attacks as smoking.

I also don't doubt I go insane. My dad did. He thinks he's been possessed by the devil. He threw out a perfectly fine painting because the duck had red eyes which were "symbolic." He got rid of all of Minnesota Vikings stuff for the same reason (devil horns).

You need to stop worrying about a conspiracy theory.

Besides, if planes did drop chemicals, it would need to be lower than that. Like when planes spray a field they need to be fairly close to it.

Conspiracy theorys are made up by bored people that have nothing better to do than badmouth the government.

While some forms of mental disorder are heritable, not all of them are.
Even if it is heritable knowing what the disorder is makes it significantly easier to treat.
Further, anxiety attacks can be treated, so I'd give that a look, if I were you.

But yeah, stuff like that isn't fun, so I'll wish you the best of luck dealing with it.

A truly open-minded person doesn't judge the openness of the minds of others.

On Acid Rain:

All rain is naturally slightly acidic in nature. It has a PH of 5.7 (I think, don't quote me on it.) Industrialization with high CO2 emissions oftentimes will lower the PH, which results in more acidic rain, which we refer to as "acid rain." Acid rain wears out buildings, statues, and pretty much anything more rapidly than "regular" rain, and is man-made. But I don't think it's a conspiracy.

(I'm glad to know my 10k a year for public education is getting me something! -___-)

Huh, what gives regular rain it's acidity, Eve? I mean, 5.7 isn't ridiculously acidic or anything, but it's a fair amount stronger than I would've expected.

You know John, I'm not too sure why it is naturally acidic. I think you've given me something fun to look up! =D (Or ask a professor)

Dissolved CO2 forms carbonic acid, which is a weak acid.
