Canada is on Notice

So I'm watching the colbert Report right now, and he as put "Canadian Iceholes" on notice. Why? apparently we've been denying other speed skating teams practice time on the olympic ice track. I'm sick and rather tired right now so I'll look more into it tomorrow, but if anyone knows some more about what's going on feel free to share.

Personaly, I think this is (as Colbert's gues stated) a dick move. Are we really that desprate? It just seem rather un Canadian and unsportsman like to me...

Well, I don't speak Mattock's fancy Canada talk, but if I had to guess he's saying that his Canadian peeps (eh?) are either denying the other Olympic teams times (you know, like a stopwatch, time trial, ect.) on the ice (I guess it would be called a run, don't know really), or they are denying them practice time.

Those are my translations, I'm going with the first one personally.

Both of these do seem like kind of an A-hole move though, I can agree on that.

The impression the whole thing gave me was that the Canadians are denying the US practice time. Considering how easy it would be to go from the US to Canada though, I don't really see anything wrong; tracks or whatever would be essentially the same no matter which country you're in, and it could easily be a case of Canada wanting to give non-American* countries more time.


*"American" referring to the continent, not the US specifically, for what little difference it makes here. I never call people from the US American unless I'm also talking about Canadians as well anyway.

And Tonchiki, what about it being the Colbert Report? He makes fun ofings, but it's all from actual news stories, he doesn't just make this stuff up...

And Sabbo, I think they're doing this to veryone, not sure hough. But ice is definately not the same everywhere. Apparently this is regarded as one of the best speed tracks in the world. More record have been broken there than anywhere else.

At first I thought you were calling Colbert a dick for this, but as I re-read your post, it seems you're referring to the people he is.

True, but the Winter Olympics are going to be held in Canada, so no one wants to leave the continent just to train, and it's the track they're going to be using. Oh and being on notice means that if you guys don't let the other teams use the tracks, then Stephen Colbert will soon be your new Prime Minister for life. He didn't win the US election, but dammit he still wants to run a country.

It's not very nice, but these teams can just go to another arena. You said that they're only denying them practice on the Olympic ice, so any other arena would not be out of bounds, right?

I really don't know why any other countries actually train their olympic speed skaters. We already know that either Canada, Russia, China or some Scandinavian country is going to win, and they already have plenty of speed skating rinks.

The problem isn't that they need ice to train. It's that every ice track is differnet and for top level athletes anything they can get is an advantage. They need to know exactly how the track feel, ajust how hard they dig in, how far they can glide. That'swhere the home team's advantage comes from in any sport, but it really shouldn't be present in the olympics since they're all about sportsmanship.

Screw fairness. Who cares if we are on notice. We have had the games twice and neither time did we win a single gold metal. We will not make the same mistake, we are going to win a gold metal this time and damn anyone who tries to stop us. LONG LIVE CANADA!
