Question about inactive members..

Now I'm not quite sure if this has any relevance, but I've always wondered...

Do you think that any of the hundred plus inactive members here have died, resulting in their being inactive? I know it's a weird question but I was just wondering on anyones opinion. I mean, it's defiantly possible.

Hundred plus? Try ten thousand plus. And yes, I would say it's possible- I mean, considering how many people there are on this site, and what percentage of them haven't signed in in years, probably one or two at least, yeah.

I've always been curious as to what would happen if I died while still being active here. Would people realize I'm gone?

It would be hard to say, seeing as a lot of members just leave without saying anything and don't come back :\

That's 53466 inactive members. Yes chances are some MAY have passed away.
In fact, I KNOW some have passed away.

That's why I put the plus after hundred.

Maybe like one or two.

I know, but I'm giving you a count.

Last time I checked There are aproximately 29569 so called members with no posts. I would say that maybe the reason that some of these members never posted is becaused they died, this also goes for the other non-active members.

For all we know, someone may have joined a year ago with the intention of posting interesting stuff but may have died the next day he/she made an account here.

It's statistically possible, and even probable, that there have been deaths of some of our forum members. People who have online social lives tend to have a wider range of contacts, however, and no "backup plan" for alerting all of those people if something should happen to them, and as such they'd have to rely on a friend or a family member to figure things out and give the news. I can't, however, think of a then-active member that has been confirmed as dead - in every single previous case, it was someone joking around.

It's certainly possible that there are more formerly active members who have died, since grieving parents are unlikely to think of giving the news to the internet forums that their child visited.

That's true, I forgot about Duncan, and that was fairly recently. Can't say I remember either of them. Proves me wrong, in any case.

The simple fact is that the family and friends of the deceased member may just have no idea that said person had an online life, and even if they did, I doubt they'd consider that online life significant enough to spread the word to. Hell, even figuring out all the communities that person was a part of could be a challenge.

Actually, I admit that I don't care that if I die, would you even learn this event or not. Even if you'd learn it, I don't think after about half a year anybody would miss me. Yeah, internet life is such a thing. :|

I have to agree with this. Maybe some people will notice and say "Gee, that sucks" but in a week or so they'll get over it. I do have back-up plans for if I die, however. It's sort of a chain-reaction plan. Word will eventually reach the forums I post on if the plan articulates correctly.

People have probably died on this forum. Death is a matter of life. Personally, I think we should just clear the accounts that haven't logged in in years, but that would take hours and time--which could be directed towards something more important.

Then I realized that little to no people pay any attention to me anyway.

ZU accounts aren't people, and as such cannot die; they are tiny waves of electronic thought, swirling in an raging ocean in a moving storm.

I try to stay detached.

Back on topic...... yes, no doubt many have died...a lot of people who come to ZU have life-threatening sicknesses of some kind (but many of us never know about it). If I died, I'm sure my youngest sister would tell everyone, eventually.

Depends. It is feasible that these inactive members have died, i only know of Hylie and Duke that have passed on.

Or, which probably accounts for the majority of the inactive accounts. They have created an account and then have forgotten/can't be bothered with coming onto the forums anymore. Some of these accounts may have been created to only take a name that perhaps someone else wanted.

wow this is really depressing for me to think about...
but yes im sure people have died(even more than jsut the two listed)
